I would like to purchase a few suits in Bangkok. Any recommendations for a tailor would be greatly appreciated.

I always used to go to Prince Oliver's across the street from the World Trade Center in Bangkok. I lived in BK for two years. They did great work. You have to go down into the cellar of one of those endless internal strip malls to find them. They farm the work out as all the others do, but the prices quoted were very reasonable. Back when the Baht was 25 to a dollar I used to pay about $75 per suit, and I still have most of them. I can't imagine prices have gone up. They are relatively fast (a couple of days) and speak good English.

I know Stickman recommends Majestic Tailors right there next to Majestic Suites on Sukhumvit Soi 4.

Thank you very much for the recommendations for tailors and the price quotes on the suits. Any more feedback would be appreciated if anyone has further recommendations or timely updates. - Rasta

Hey Rastaman, I got a suit at Raja's. Just a few doors down from NEP. $250 for a Suit, 2 shirts and a tie. Supposed to be highest quality. See my trip report for more (Asia archive).
What you save on a suit can equal airfare. Enjoy, you are going to a paradise.

Hola Headingsouth! Thanks for the feedback, I'll checkout your report--I need something to read anyway to quell my appetite since I won't be going for 3 months yet! I am so anxious. I have wanted to go back, ever since I boarded the plane to come home from my first trip! Thanks for the help. - Rasta

I am looking for a suit in Bangkok. THIS TIME I AM REALLY GOING TO BUY IT. When I asked last time, I was going to buy one, but I just screwed hot women instead. <grin> I see the recommendations are Prince Oliver's, Raja Tailors and Majestic Tailors. Majestic quotes some pretty high prices on their website ($500 US per suit!).

Can anyone tell me if they have actually had suits made and if you have had them for awhile, were your expectations met or exceeded and what did you pay?

I paid around $300 for a suit at Majestic and was not very satisfied (nor did it impress a tailor in the U.S. I showed it to). I also bought some dress shirts at Majestic that I ended up throwing in the garbage after I got home, they were so bad. I paid around $650 for a suit at Perry's (near Patpong) and was satisfied (the same tailor in the U.S., who did not know the prices I paid for the two suits said this one was excellent). Of course, it was not a cheap suit, as are those at many of the places run by Indians (Perry's has Thai-Chinese owners).

Thanks for the input LA GUY. Blazers says to only consider getting a suit tailored in Pattaya. I tend to think he is right. But, I may try Raja's Tailors for a simple, classic black suit if they don't quote me too high a price. I'll report back here if it works out or not.

Would recommend Narrys near Eden Club in BKK I think. For mid range tuxedo and top range suit $170. Stay away from tailors in Phuket...they were charging 3 times this price and wouldnt come down in price.

I would recommend Versaces on the corner of Sukhumvit Soi 7. Not the cheapest, but having tried 6 different tailors they are always the best for quality and style. I have had at least 8 suits, 15 shirts, 6 pairs of trousers and a really fine overcoat from them and never been disappointed. Indeed I have had many people ask where I but my suits from. Those who have gone there on my recommendation have agreed with me too.

What are suits at Versaces going for these days?

WW...could you also tell us what the prices for the shirts, etc are? Thank you,

LAGUY,

At the prices quoted above, you could find a suit of similar quality downtown L.A. and save your self the hassle of carrying it back from Thailand.

Max: No way can you find a tailored suit of similar quality in downtown L.A. at that price. I'm curious though, have you gone to Perry's and examined the merchandise, or are you just speculating on the quality of the suits and the custom tailoring there?
