The closest island to take your Thai girl, if you're staying in Bangkok or Pattaya. The island is about 6 km long and is beautiful. The place is packed with Thai people on the weekend. Very few falang venture to this island but this may change in the future. I suggest going during weekdays or making a reservation at one of the bungalow resorts on the weekend. This island is located on the east coast of Thailand and is near the fishing village of Ban Phe.

I am a 30-year-old American from the Midwest. I have made a handful of trips to TJ, but the trip I want to recommend is one to Thailand. I just returned from a 3-week trip to the Land of Smiles (Thailand). I spent time in the city of Bangkok, also visited Phuket and the island of Koh Samui.
When visiting the city of Bangkok I highly recommend that you spend one evening at the Nana Plaza Entertainment Center. Nana Plaza is a 3 story building in the shape of a horseshoe with all the establishments facing in towards a courtyard type area in the center. If your only interest is a beer and some conversation then you can have a good time at the outdoor bars in the courtyard (1st floor) or the Cathouse (2nd floor). If what you are looking for is a great show and some companionship, then I recommend the gogo bar Hollywood on the 3rd floor.
After spending an evening or two in the city, then head for Koh Samui. Koh Samui is a tropical island with some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. You can have a nice bungalow on the beach with all the necessities including air conditioning and hot water for around $20 dollars a night depending on what time of year you go. I recommend the Lamai Inn on Lamai beach. If you are up for some nightlife you can have some real fun with the girls at the outdoor bars. There are two areas of outdoor bars in Lamai beach. One smaller area is next to the new McDonalds restaurant, but in my opinion more fun can be had in the area by the boxing ring. There are outdoor bars or cabanas surrounding a boxing ring where you can watch Thai boxing on Saturday nights. These places have an abundance of beautiful Thai ladies. You can sit have a beer, play jenga or connect four with the women and have a great time. The girls will dance for you, make you laugh and entertain you for the evening. If at some time you want to take one of the girls home with you for some bedroom games, they are more than willing. The rates, although they vary for an evening with one of these beauties, is around $25 dollars or 1000 baht.

The first I heard of Ko Samui was in the film, "Meet the Parents" with Robert DeNiro and Ben Stiller.
I'm glad to hear its such a beautiful place. Almost paradise from what it sounds like.
I assume the girls that are willing to provide companionship aren't as high volume as the girls in Bangkok or Phuket. Is that accurate? Are they as beautiful though as the Bangkok girls?

N8guy,
I've spent quite a bit of time there go as soon as you can you will never regret it. Even though the selection is wider in BK. Samui is all around wonderful.
You can also island hop for day trips or what ever you want. Go to Ko Tao, KO Phan Gan, Ko
Yang Nuan on Popeye tours. Great snorkling with group lunches. It was an absolute fucking blast.
My favorite is the Trade Winds Hotel next to the 5 star Central Hotel. $30 dollars per night for great beach cottages.
Do everything through travel agents for the best deal. Yes they are all the same

I seem to remember that two of the James Bond movies were filmed in the Thai islands.

One was Ko Phi Phi. I'm not sure what the other is. Also the new survivor series is being shot at Ko Phi Phi.

I recently returned from 2 months traveling throughout Thailand. I spent a bit of time hitting all of the typical spots: Bangkok (Nana, Patpong, KSR), Pattaya, Chaing Mai with mostly good experiences. However, the last 3 week of my trip was spent on the Island of Ko Samui and had an incerdible time with the most beautiful women in Thailand! Samui, can be reached from Bankok International Airport for about $150 round trip. Book your ticket in person once you arrive in BKK. It is cheaper than an advance purchase and seats are always available. Once you have your ticket head to the airport "food court" and watch all the eye candy, but lookout for the touts and pick-pockets who lurk here!! When it's time for your flight, get on the plane, enjoy the cutie Thai stewardesses and relax...the flight only takes an hour and a half. Once you land on Samui, head right out of the airport (this is a small airport with a really cool tiki theme) and get a taxi to Chewang Beach. There are several hotels along the beach that range in price from 200 baht to $200 US a night. Pcik a place within your budget, I like the Chewang Buri...it is a little pricy by Thai standards, but includes Breakfast, a private bungalow, pool, and a couple really cute maids...who really like falangs...a is very safe adn allows girls with no extra fees. The green mango is located about 5 minutes north up the beach and accross the street from Chewang Buri. It is essentially a bar complex , with several different discos, pool bars, bar bars, pizza joints, and of course loads of Thai Girls. Head down at around 10pm as all of the bars now close at 2am. I liked to stop into the 7-11 at the corner as you get to the green mango, buy a large Chang for 30 baht and walk around looking for a nice girl. Of course you will get the classic "hellloooo Sexxxy man" calls you are used to in Pattaya, but not tho that extreme and there are a lot of girls just walking around the street looking ot meet you. Prices are neg. but expect to pay about 1000 baht for long time...forget the short times at your hotel, instead go to one of the "massage parlors" across form the beach. 250-400 baht for a great massage and bbbj and full service. Pick a girl who seems in to you!!! On two different occasions I picked up a girl, broght her back to the hotel. Once we were in the room and she realized that it was a nice hotel, she asks is she can invite a friend (to show off her catch for the night). Both times, her friend turned into a couple of TG's. Needles to say, I hit the mini bar, offer the girls a Heinikin (that is the current hot drink) and procede to have a great party with all of them. Next morning, it is a little difficult to get them discretely from your bungalow. But, get this....they would not accept any money!! Just my promise to meet them again that night! Which of course I obliged. The only problem with this sort of arrangement is that you end up buying drinks for 3 TG's instead of one....but things have a way of working out. Free sex....but pay for drinks, seems fair to me. The girls at the Green Mango are easy to approach, and are generally better looking in the more traditional Thai prowling grounds. They also seem less jaded and really enjoy themselves. This really made the experience enjoyable for me as well.

Does anyone have any current info on this place? What's the scene like there, which areas has the best/most girls?

I spent a few days on Ko Samui a few weeks back. This is more of a laid back beach area, but there are about two blocks of beer gardens and go-gos adjacent to the Green Mango. The later is a free-lancer disco that gets going about 10 PM. The other places get going a little earlier. There is day time action at the new go-go. All of this is in the same area of Chewang Beach up toward the north end.
By Ezgab on Wednesday, March 09, 2005 - 01:40 pm: Edit |
They have a new go-go? I have been to Sumai several times throughout the last 10 years. During most of that period they only had one Go-Go bar. Most were of the beer bar variety. I havent been in a couple of years.

I just returned from my 12th (or 13th...) trip to Thailand, but this was my first trip to Samui.
The first thing I want to say, is that overall, Ko Samui wasn't that great compared to other Thai islands and beaches. I usually visit places like Hua Hin, Ko Samet, and Ko Chang. Ko Chang is my favourite, with Ko Samet a close second. The main reason I didn't like Ko Samui was that it is much more developed than the other islands I have visited. There was an abundance of western franchise fast-food places and coffee shops. Also, there was a huge amount of tourists here, even considering it is low season. I guess that I was looking for a quieter and more laid-back place to visit. In fairness, I could have probably found this on one of the nearby islands instead, and I understand that some people might be looking for more of a party scene.
Anyway, Ko Samui is also much more accesible than those other places, since it has the airport right on the island. Oh yeah, that's another thing - the flight path for the airport lies over Chawang Beach, so if you think that would bother you, you might want to stay somewhere else. If you look in your Lonely Platent, and look at the map where it says "See Enlargement", well, this is the area that I am talking about.
Overall, I found the prices reasonable, maybe because it was low season. I wanted the"beach hut on the beach" like I had at Ko Change, but I had to settle for the "beach hut 100 meters from the beach". I stayed at the Chawang Gardens Beach Resort, and paid 1000B per night which came with minibar, t.v., AC, and a cute little balcony area. There was a lot of people moving in and out everyday, and they offered to move me closer to the beach the second day.
Anyway, this is in the middle of the busy nightlife scene, and there are many restaurants and (normal) bars in the area. There were a few beer bars up the main road past Starbucks, as well as several more in the horshoe-shaped area near the Green Mango. I had trouble with two of these bars, which I'll describe at the end.
The barfines seemed to be 200B, with the girl asking for 1000B LT. Most of the talent looked mediocre, but every bar had at least 2 or 3 good looking girls. There wasn't too much pressure to buy LD's, and the girls seemed more worried about whether they were going to get barfined or not. At just about every bar I went to, the girls were sitting around, drinking their own whiskey that they had bought at 7-11. I guess they were pretty bored, but they otherwise seemed in good spirits, and were pleasant to talk to.
So, overall, it's not a whore-mongers dream, but if you happen to show up without your TGF in tow, then you'll still find someone to keep you up at night.
I had trouble with 2 bars. I've been coming to Thailand for 5 years, and I can't remember the last time I had a problem like this. The first bar was an indoor bar up the main road past Starbucks. I wasn't even drinking there - I was nextdoor. Anyway, the bar owner (from the indoor bar) comes walking past and sees me sitting in there since I was the only customer. He returns 5 minutes later, and accuses the bar girls of "stealing" me from his bar. There's lots of shouting, and finally he leaves on his motorcycle. 5 minutes later, he's back, but with a cheap-looking asp (sp?) baton and handcuffs. He tells me he's the "police" (he's from Italy, he tells me), and he will "arrest" one of these girls if I don't leave this bar, and go to his bar to drink.
It gets even more weird: He starts yelling at the girls again, so I decide I have to do something, so I go outside with him and try to reason. He invites me to his bar for a free drink, which I decline. He starts yelling at me, and picks up one of the barstools that his girls use to sit on and tries to throw it at me. His girls grab him, and the girls from the bar I'm drinking at pull me back inside. Another 5 minutes, and the real police show up, along with the bar's owner (the bar I'm sitting at). It turns out that the owner of the bar is a Thai man who retired from the "real" police so it was simply a matter of the bargirls to call the boss, who called his friends, who gladly came down to check things out. After a brief discussion, the Italian guy cooled down, and didn't cause a problem for the rest of my trip.
The other bar I had a problem with was in the horseshoe shaped area, but I don't think it even hada name, and it looked like it hadn't been open long, since everything still looked pretty new. Anyway, I'm in there drinking, and talking to girls. I like to talk to all the girls and find out where they're from, since I may have been there before during one of my trips through Issan. I buy a LD for one girl, since I was playing Connect4 with her for awhile, and then I decide it's time to move on to the next bar.
All of a sudden, they start laying the pressure on me. "Buy me another drink". "Buy a drink for my 3 fiends, and the mamasan". No thanks to both, since I'm moving on though, so I "check-bin". "You pay bar for me". No thanks again, but maybe tomorrow, since I was pretty tired from the days travelling. The pressure continued up to the point of me paying the bill. I pay the bill, and receive incorrect change. I immediately point out this fact, and the cashier/whore explains that I paid for the lady to go with me. I reiterate that no, I was not taking the lady. Lots of dissapointed and slightly angry faces, but she gives me my correct change back. I don't leave a tip, since I don't like being screwed like that.
I walk out of the bar, and the next thing I know, the owner (a bitter old British man) grabs me from behind and tries to drag me into the bar. "You ain't leaving without paying, mate". He says. I pushed him in the chest so that he let go, and told him I did pay. He grabs me again, and now there are a few of his girls grabbing on to me too. Well, I drag this motley crew about halfway to the main road, bargirls yelling the whole time, old guy trying to punch me, when a Farang pulls up on his motorbike and asks what is going on. I explain, and he says "You better pay, before the police get involved. If they show up you'll have to pay them too". Hmmm, good point. I'm pretty sure that 5 screaming Thai whores will be convincing than this Farang tourist. I decide to pay the 500B I apparently owe, but I give the old man one last punch to make up for the dozen or so he's inflicted upon me.
Well, I don't want to give the wrong idea, because I think this is a pretty rare occurance. In fairness to the old man, I don't think he knew what was going on, except that his girls told him I left without paying. I think that I pissed them off by not buying them LD's, and pocketing my check-bin was an easy 500B for them. It pays to drink with a friend, and to be extra careful out there.
Well, these events don't leave me jaded - I still had a good time every other night. But like I said, Samui wasn't quite what I was looking for, so I'll probably go back to Ko Chang next time.

the thread starter, Blazers, is describing Ko Samet, a tiny island less than 100km SE of Pattaya (boats to Ko Samet leave from Ban Phe, just E of Rayong).
But the thread is titled Ko Samui. & the posts by Johnno, N8guy, Gitano, Ezgab, Shakakoz are on Ko Samui, a much larger island 500km S of BKK.
Ko Samui: overdeveloped, too touristy, overpriced, beaches ok, bar girls not pretty, quite a few ugly she-males. Hat Chaweng is the ctr of action. Surat Thani has ferry boats to Ko Samui & Ko Pha-Ngan www.seatranferry.com
Ko Pha-Ngan is 1hr ferry ride from Ko Samui. much more mellow except during the monthly full moon party on Hat Rin Nok (& prices double).
Ko Tao (& islet Ko Nangyuan) is 1hr boat ride from Ko Pha-Ngan. popular for diving. too tiny for p4p. Chumphon also has ferry to Ko Tao.

So long ago, dunno why I put this here....never actually been to Kho Samui but Kho Samet was beautiful.
