I believe Penjay is a short way of saying “Pangeran Jayakarta”, which refers to the street that these bars are located off of. Many taxi drivers won’t know how to get there. Even with the address, I often had to have the nice folks at the hotel give instructions.

There are many bars and massage places in this complex, which is kind of a U shape. I will mention four places that I went inside. These places have been talked about extensively in previous trip reports, most notably by MongerX.

The bars are Sari Ayu, L.A. Bar, MTR Bar and Royal Massage.

Evidently Sari Ayu, LA Bar, and MTR bar are all closed for two weeks starting around Jan 27. At least that is what I have heard from a couple of girls who have returned back to the Kampong.

There was a raid on Sari Ayu Jan 24 and they took away over a 100 girls and 9 guys for pimping. Evidently they were operating a Bar Massage joint in violation of their license. Funny thing is I wasn't aware of the raid and took Sandman for his cherry visit there the next day. I even made the comment," Damn it looks like there are a 100 girls missing." We then went over to LA Bar and found a few girls but the numbers were waaaaaaay down.

So the gossip is that there is a single guy who recruits and supplies the girls to these three bars. Also, there is a new Police Cheif for west Jakarta. So it sounds like a new agreement of terms needs to be worked out. Things probably will return to normal, but they said the same things about casinos in Batam and they never came back.

Still way more great places and experiences to have, but it these bars are my favorite venues in Jakarta. It's like going to Disney World and have Space Mountain closed.

I'm really bummed about this, Penjay is also one of my favorite places. I wonder if most of the girls went home, I hope some of them migrated to other venues in JKT. Keep us posted.

Actually, it seems the bars are open again. However, many of the girls were sent home to the Kampongs of Indramayu for two weeks. So things should be normal within two weeks.
