nhatrang is a good place for a few days of R&R nice beach few good places like Crazy Kims and the sailing club... again as with saigon prices are way too high for the quality but its easier to get to the hotels.. again a mongering trip to LOS would be much more fulfiling... but if in vietnam do not miss nha trang sunrise hotel has nice rooms overlooking the ocean.. but the staff dont speak a word of english! new hotels coming up so things are sure to improve.

Does anyone have any recent updates on Nha Trang other than the Sailing Club? Any new clubs or hot spots to try or any alternative places to meet girls?

Another thing you can do is go to a Karaoke bar. I know, it sounds gay but you don’t have to sing. They have private rooms that you can reserve and then call in some girls. Basically, you sit around eating, drinking, and playing grab ass with the girls. There are some cuties to be found in these places and if you like any of them you can arrange a deal and go back to your hotel.

However, as with any of these places in many countries, you have to watch out for what they put on your bill. What happens is when you sit down, the owner brings in a bucket of beer on ice and a tray full of snacks (chips, nuts, cookies, jerky, etc). Then, like a hotel refrigerator, you will be charged for each item you, or the girls eat, and expect the girls to start grabbing everything as if they haven’t eaten in days, as they have been instructed to do I’m sure. You have to balance being a Cheap Charlie and getting scammed though. Just be sure to get a price list for each item before hand. If you wait until you leave to question charges, you will get a big surprise.

Hoang Hoa Tham Street in Nha Trang City, Vietnam is full of these places. There's a small hotel called "Cali" on the same street.

Great, thanks for the info Arellius. I will check these places out for the hell of it. Just to clarify about calling in the girls, do these Karaoke places arrange the girls to come in with you or will I need to make the arrangements separately?

They arrange it for you.

I'm going to post some stuff on Saigon too a little later, so you might want to check that out too.

i spent a week in nha trang at the end of march 08. i didn't find any ladies although i didn't try that hard as i was at the end of a 90 day run and quite worn out.

getting there:
i flew from SGN for less than $100 r/t on vietnam airlines. bought ticket a couple days in advance from local agency. if you buy via the net, you'll probably pay $200.

the airport is about 30 minutes from nha trang. a real nice drive. no traffic and a very good quality road. i think the hotel car p/u was $12 but my meter taxi back to the airport was double that (i paid in dong, or VND).

you can also take a train. five star express is the "first class" style train. they have several classes but as i recall the lowest class was almost as much as the plane ticket. going in grand style on the train was way more than my plane ticket. also, the train leaves saigon at about midnight and gets to nha trang in the morning. think it is a 7 or 8 hour journey.

there are "local" trains that you can take that are very cheap but these will probably not be very comfortable and you get to squat and shit in a hole that then drops down on the tracks (i've got friends that just don't feel right unless they get to do this on a trip !!!). also, many stops so long, long journey.

hotel:
i stayed at the phu quy 2 in one of the sea view rooms for 900,000VND (around $60). included internet in room and breakfast. view was really nice but probably wouldn't stay there again. you can get a hotel two blocks from the beach with internet, breakfast, and no view for $20. one that i looked at was la suisse (you can google that for more info) and i'd stay there in the future.

nightlife:
i've read alot about the nightlife in nha trang and how great it is. i dropped into the "infamous" sailing club which is right on the beach. restaurant/bar by day and really nice decor with several different sections to sit, dine, drink, sun, etc.. one of only a few places with chairs/services out on the beach. unfortunately, the bulk of the patrons both day and night are fat western women. like apocalypse now and q bar in SGN, this place does not cater to the regular monger. maybe someone who doesn't whore much thinks it does, but from a regular perspective, this is a no go.

the same holds true for louisiana brewhouse. a five minute walk from sailing club and has the same set up except they also have a pool. i wanted to shoot myself in the head when i saw what lurked around the pool. unfortunately, the beach path goes right by here and you can't help but look over at the huge white sloths. in the evening, stay away unless you like to party with western folk in vietnam.

i stopped into a couple of discos/clubs off the beach and didn't get the best vibe from the patrons (all viets). maybe i was too paranoid but i don't like viet guys staring me down so i didn't last long in the two places i stopped.

i never saw any karaoke clubs mentioned by arellius above. i know the street mentioned and i was on it many times but didn't see anything. i rented a bicycle for the duration of my trip and i cruised the city for hours each day. i'd ride in the am and then i'd go again from about 7pm to 9pm (bike had a light). and i road slow. never beckoned by a lady standing by a door and never propositioned by a lady anywhere during my stay (not even a lady boy tried to get me !!!!). i also cruised many streches on foot and no dice.

i think the only places for action are massage in the hotels. there are lots of those. that isn't really my idea of mongering so i don't count it. i saved my money for what awaited on my return to saigon.

beach:
there is a park with paths and trees, etc.. that runs all the way along the beach. this is where i spent most of my time. many viets hanging here in the shade. i'd just pull in on my bike, grab a beer or water from a vendor and relax. then move on and do the same in a different spot a little later.

the beach was wide open, except in front of sailing club and louisiana brewhouse. some chairs also set up in front of sunrise or sunset hotel. i swam in the ocean several times. i've spent alot of time on the beach/in the water in my life and this one would rate pretty poor. when you go into the water, you walk just a few steps before a huge drop off and you are up to your chin. no surf at all. like a lake but there are surely strong currents that have created this drop off effect. the locals have a tradition of dipping in the ocean in the morning and the evening. just jump in in their clothes and then get out. kind of fun to watch.

i guess to summarize, i went in with really high expectations on the beach (think boracay) and medium on the chicks. i didn't expect tons of women to attack me but to pull a goose egg was pretty tough. beach didn't cut it although i did really like hanging in the park area. best part was riding the bicycle all around the city. pretty much all bicycle or motos, not too many cars. i was at the end of a big trip so probably needed the exercise more than the ladies anyway. food was fantastic. on my next trip to vietnam i'll probably give china beach (near danang) a try.

sorry i couldn't load up with info on the ladies. i thought about making no comment/report at all but figured i'd toss this out. maybe to spur others to add what they may know about what i missed.
