Myanmar ,not much on our board so after a few years i decided to give something back to fellow mongers.
ARRIVAL;Visa necessary although Visa on arrival available recommend obtaining @ bangkok or US.
GETTING TO YANGON;frequent flights from bangkok 1 from singapore and malaysia and from india
MONEY; no credit cards carry crisp US dollars
HOTELS;stayed @ Traders Yangon girl friendly no problems
REPORT; I arrived on a i week pre paid tour as a tourist with 3 nights @ yangon 2 @Bagan and MANDALAY.
Yangon sights are few and after 1 day you have to take day trips out for more sights
Numerous well known DISCO'S and night clubs. I visted 3.BME2,PALACE,and another close to my hotel.
Girls are young, so young that i asked for their age first and eager. As i have not been to manila or phnomphen i was embrassed to find them crowding me as soon as i entered.
Very sweet and cooperative and naive.Overnight @ hotel between $20 to $30.so i partook 2 at a time.
Very good experience, i was unwilling for bare back so i took my US condoms.English a problem but one can get along.None of the girls carry cell phones due to its price!!
Sent them back with 2$ tips and walked them past the front door to taxi so as prevent security from shaking them down.
CCONCLUSION;If you want to take the trouble for YOUNG [legally]girls recommend highly.unfortunately it is out of the way but if you are @ Bangkok worth a 2 to 3 night trip.as a unique trip.
SORRY no photos due to rule by military generals

By Jayagopal50 on Monday, March 06, 2006 - 03:03 pm:  Edit

report in another board said some girls identified were hauled to prison. This is heresay but it is not worth jeopardising the poor girls.
Visa requires 2 photos and confirmed air tickets and stay arrangements or a tour operator has to send a form.i did the later.

By Jayagopal50 on Monday, March 06, 2006 - 03:07 pm:  Edit

Myanmar is under sanctions by UK and USA being ruled by Generals, who have ignored human rights and democratic elections.

By Cooldude on Monday, March 06, 2006 - 03:28 pm:  Edit

what was cost of the trip? the hotel website Traders -rangoon list for around $125.00 a nite. could better deals be had?

By I_am_sancho on Monday, March 06, 2006 - 07:11 pm:  Edit

FWIW, I'd go with letting a tour operator handle the visa to be safe. I mailed my application off to Myanmar's Washington DC embassy after meticulously dotting my i's and crossing my t's. They sat on it almost a month, then called me on the phone and ask me to elaborate on my itinerary beyond the itinerary letter I had included with my application. I guess she didn't like my answer since I received my passport back with an empty page where a now peeled out sticker had been and white out over a partial stamp. Border region passes are available at Tachelek so I still got in that way. Most likely my problems were due to wanting to do something other than fly directly into and out of Yangon on a tour operator sanctioned tour, but myself I would favor letting a Bangkok travel agent handle the visa. A "tour" can consist of airline tickets and hotel reservations so long as it is booked by a sanctioned tour agency.

Great report. I really like Burmese ladies.

Excellent info! Hope to make it there w/in the year.

I assume the ratios at the discos are heavily in our favor? And any other sites besides discos you may have info on?

Thanks mate!

By Jayagopal50 on Tuesday, March 07, 2006 - 04:33 pm:  Edit

Traders yangon probably has lower rates but since i got it as a package i do not know exactly the lowest rate.
You are the king at the discos, overwhelming is the right word.At palace there are locals but at discos it is all visitors western and eastern. there are 2 other places called emperor one floor below palace which i did not vist and another called shangai.I liked BME2 the best. Some real cuties whom i wish i should have done.If getting is not such an endeavor i would drop by in a hurry, the connections are so cumbersome and of course there is the damm VISA.

By Concarne on Tuesday, March 07, 2006 - 04:53 pm:  Edit

Jayagopal...you mention that visa on arrival is available...I assume you mean at the airport...however you recommend getting it in BKK or USA. Can you elaborate? Super hassle at the airpor or perhaps you may be bounced back?

Sorry to bother you and thanks in advance!

By Jayagopal50 on Wednesday, March 08, 2006 - 03:44 am:  Edit

According to some web sites apparently VISA on arrival is available, but this is hearsay. To take no chances after flying all the way better get VISA before

As opposed, say, to countries ruled by dictators who have ignored human rights and democratic elections but who do what we tell them.
While I have no love for the government there, it's not much worse than many other third world governments.

As for visas, you can get one in Bangkok in 24hours, just make sure you have two passport-size photos.

You don't need a visa if you make a day trip through Mae Sai (about an hour from Chiang Rai).

By Redbus on Wednesday, March 08, 2006 - 07:30 am:  Edit

They only give you a day ticket for $5 at Mai Sai
and you have to leave your passport at the Border

By Concarne on Wednesday, March 08, 2006 - 01:41 pm:  Edit

Wombat...in case you might know: is the visa in BKK obtained thru a travel agency or by going directly to the consulate? And how long can you get them for?

Thanks in advance!

By Wombat88 on Wednesday, March 08, 2006 - 09:17 pm:  Edit

The visa comes from the consulate directly. I seem to remember it's good for at least a month and was reasonably priced.

By Asiangirlsrock on Sunday, April 09, 2006 - 09:55 am:  Edit

Like Wombat, I entered through Mae Sai (north point of Thailand) into Tacheleik. A few cool sights in Tacheleik: large Buddhist temples actually roofed in pure gold leaf (people are starving in the streets but the roof of Dagon Pagoda was being re-leafed at a cost of millions of dollars - go figure). Lots of good buys in the street markets too, really nice silk shirts for $4, DVD-9s, all original and good recent titles in English, Chinese and Thai for $5.

Nice thing about Tacheliek is that it's the heart of the Golden Triangle where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet, and China is also just a few miles away. The freelancers in the street bazaar included Thais, Burmese, Lao, Cambodians, and Chinese. You do have to very careful about negotiating sex. You can't do it in the open or you risk arrest. Some of the girls hang out around the shops and hand out business cards for the shops with a name on the back. Give the card to a tuktuk driver and he will take you to a room where the girl will be waiting for you. I got a really beautiful Chinese girl there. I was amazed because she was of the same quality I could find in Shenzen or Nanning - near model-quality. Not at all what I expected from Myanmar. She was about double the price of the local Burmese and Thai girls (1500 baht, which is still cheap), but well worth it. Unfortunately she would not let me take photos, and was too worried about border checks on the way back to worry about it.

By Asiangirlsrock on Sunday, April 09, 2006 - 09:58 am:  Edit

Sorry, a clarification of my last post: 1500 baht for the Chinese girl, 800 for the locals.

There are also 250-300 Baht mamasan houses in Tachalek. Conditions are, shall we say "rustic" but there are some fun ladies in those houses.

Gents, pardon my ignorance, but why the FUK would you want to go to Myanmar with all the crazy shit that's happening there...and will THAILAND right next door???

By smitopher on Saturday, September 09, 2006 - 01:11 am:  Edit

Meccakrang

Some people have already been to Thailand, many times, and Cambodia, PI, Indo, Sillypore... and are adventurous. You have my permission to continue to keep yourself going to Thailand and avoid all that crazy shit.

By Catocony on Saturday, September 09, 2006 - 01:31 pm:  Edit

Mecca,

Some guys are simply explorers, plain and simple. Some stick to familiar places, others need to constantly find new places. Personally, I either pick a place due to happenstance (going there for work or something) or from past experience (Brasil). I admit, I don't think I will ever hit places like Cambodia or Indonesia and certainly not Burma, unless I end up there on business or something. But, lots of guys will go just because there aren't a lot of others going there.

They like the trailblazer gig, which is how the rest of us eventually get there. Thailand wasn't always swimming in soapies and go-go bars, Rio wasn't always filled with GdPs working in termas and the beach and whatnot. Places like that become popular either because of war (always hookers around military installations i.e. 'po City and Angeles in the PI, Awase in Okinawa, Itaewon in Seoul, the Bangkok business getting big due to US R&R runs during Vietnam, etc) or because some brave soul heard about some high-quality, cheap (or maybe just cheap) pussy for rent in some far off city and decided to go there and check it out. He then told some friends, who told friends, then posted on the Internet....and the next thing you know there are a couple of new McDonalds going in and the go-gos begin filling up.

I don't think Burma will be the next hot spot, but guys do get tired of Thailand and the PI and Brasil and Costa Rica and other known spots and go on to something new.

By Smith on Monday, October 25, 2010 - 05:52 pm:  Edit

something new. off the beaten track. is always an experience. never know what might happen. keeps you alive inside, instead of a mindless zombie!

Mayanmar are having elections at the moment or just finished. so i would leave it a couple of weeks before you monger there.

By Zoner on Saturday, April 21, 2012 - 08:14 am:  Edit

historic reforms in last 6 months in burma if you´ve been following the news. according to cnn: Burma restructured its currency in early April, turning a fixed rate of 6.4 kyat per U.S. dollar to a floating rate of over 800 kyat per U.S. dollar.
today's rate: 1 USD = 822 MMK.

By Hunterman on Saturday, April 21, 2012 - 11:36 pm:  Edit

Any information on the mongering there? It would seem that the country is just opening up to allow tourists, so the oldest profession should be available....

The ugliest women in SE Asia, IMO.

By Catocony on Sunday, April 22, 2012 - 09:00 am:  Edit

I've done one Burmese chick, and while the sex was ok, she definitely was not a looker. I would agree with Murasaki on this one.

By Bwana_dik on Sunday, April 22, 2012 - 01:56 pm:  Edit

Ever been up to visit the hill tribes in northern Thailand. The women are generally quite ugly. Burma is full of similarly ugly women. Lookers are rare.

By Catocony on Sunday, April 22, 2012 - 08:39 pm:  Edit

I will say that I've only done the one Burmese girl but used to see plenty on a regular basis around the Arabian Gulf, working in restaurants and hotels. Just my .02, but Burmese women seem to combine the uglier traits of Indian women with the uglier traits of Chinese or Malay women. It's a bad combo.

By Blazers on Sunday, April 22, 2012 - 10:35 pm:  Edit

Uglier than Korean chicks(not the models and movie stars)? They have giant heads, square bodies, downward eyes with no lids, minimal nose bridge, and they cut their hair like a man and perm it when they turn 30. No wonder the LPGA ratings are in the toilet.

By Redbus on Tuesday, January 01, 2013 - 02:55 am:  Edit

Because the Burmese are slowly opening their doors Hotels in Rangoon have become expensive and fully booked. Also venues are changing like the garland shows so I would say check on the Internet if your thinking of going.
