If you're going to go exploring I hope you speak at least passable Thai. The girls will speak virtually no useable English , unless you run into one who's back home from BKK or Pattaya.

The park near the statue has plenty of freelancers roaming, even during the day. Quality is low. I guess the "good" girls who make decent money would stay in BKK/PTY and not come back to Korat for work. There are also some massage places, Karaoke, etc., but not all the girls are working, so you have to be careful. The discos tend to fill up when the Americans are in town for military exercises, and word has gotten out that this is a good time for the girls to make a trip back home, but it gets pretty competitive for the guys.

And yeah, you better know some Thai, or else you will be pretty bored. One thing I will say is that since many of the girls come from Issan, a trip upcountry can give you some insight into their home, and it gives you some common ground when you are back in BKK/PTY chatting with girls. I like to carry photos around, and when a girl tells me she is from Korat/Surin/Buriram/Wherever, I whip out some pictures of her hometime. It gives you some credibility, and "in theory" the girl trusts you more. However, this is not a trip for your average monger, since you might get bored.

And, here am in Korat. I am just off the bus, so let me give the transport details: take any taxi in Bangkok to the Mo Chit bus terminal. From there, ticket booth 52 sells express tickets to Korat for 198 baht. You need to then walk over an elevated ramp to the bus, the platform and bus number are indicated on your ticket.

Its a direct to Korat, time today was 3 hours, 50 minutes.

I checked into the Korat Hotel which is downtown, 800 baht a night for a room. The hotel is more like a Mexican hotel than most Thai hotels I have been in.

If Pattaya is like Mazatlan, Korat is Los Mochis - it is a conservative farm town where the chica migrate from to places like Pattaya. The town is laid out like a Mexican Pacific city, I can almost navigate here using the Culiacan city plan.

Mongering opportunities here are limited - there are no go go bars, not even real bars of any sort. There is a "disco" next to the hotel here, but although admission is free, drinks are only served by the bottle. So, it will cost you 1000 baht to sit down, and you are presented with Thai whiskey and some coke. There were available girls in the disco, price unknown, but probably expensive.

There are the equivalents of street girls in the park here, two blocks west of the hotel. They are like the Hotel Najera girls, of very uncertain quality, health and gender. I was quoted 200 baht, but due to the factors mentioned above, I passed.

Good luck with your adventure....Try to find some of the local karaoke bars, that'll be some of the best P4P you're likely to encounter.....300 baht short time.....5 baht a song..... and dirt floors.....Its a different world....

After some careful research, I located a serviceable pooying in the park, wouldn't budge off 500 baht for short time, and off we went to some decrepit hotel. Standard SG service, I can't complain.

The only bars I have found here all want to serve alcohol by the bottle, if you have directions to a karaoke bar that does not want 1000 baht up front, let me know!

There is a really good bar not to far from the princess hotel, and another one with a great band,the lead singer owns the place, but for the life of me I can't remember the name. I saw a bunch of GI's in the place with the band
