During my past two visits to SEA I have made it a point to visit Siem Reap in Cambodia to photograph the temples. It is a nice break from the non-stop action in the bar scene in Bangkok. Go for the temples they are truly amazing.

Some people post that there is no action in Siem Reap but it's there if you open your eyes. There are several establishments that have large assortment of girls to take out. Plus a couple of nightclubs.

During both visits I have taken girls that hang out at Zanny Bar. This most recent visit I met a beautiful 19 year old and my driver took us back to my hotel. No problem with the staff at the Borei Angkor.

In fact, two nights later I returned tired and alone. But there was a gentleman in the lobby with an extremely cute girl talking with the staff. He suggested that I try a massage from her for $10 for the hour. I declined since I had an early departure. Then he closed the deal by saying that I could try a "sample" massage for 30 minutes and send her back down if I wasn't happy. So up to the room we went and I kept her for more than an hour of pleasure! Now that was salesmanship!!

How did you get from Bangkok to Siem Reap? Is there a good travel agency that runs 2/3 day trips from Bangkok?
Thanks.

There are daily flights from Bangkok to Siem Reap. I used Bangkok Air and bought my tickets from their agent in Los Angeles before my departure. But tickets are easy to purchase in Bangkok for maybe less $.

It is a one hour flight and they pack in a "refreshing tissue", newspapers, lunch and ice cream. And then you land at the newly remodeled airport.

The temples are something you have to experience.

I also have the name and contact info for a great guide/driver that I have used on two visits. $25 day for him and his car. He is available 24/7 to show you temples (and girls). One incredible asset if you visit.

senangkor@yahoo.com

Mr. Sam Sen. You may use my name.

Hope this helps.

HJ, I was there in Dec. 2x, check out my trip report "In search of the HOly grail" for some info. One of the better places was a group of mamasan houses on the street to Salina hotel. Tokyo massage had about 20-25 girls, a few hotties. Old Mkt area had 3-4 houses, a few diamonds there also. Got quoted 35-45 LT, or $10-$15 ST. Motos and drivers will always get a commission so I walked over.

I was there a few weeks back. What really sucks these days is that the taxi mafia have been successful in their bid to block Barangs (us) from renting our own motor vehicles. That means you are now at their mercy. So, use this strategy:

Hire the taxi bastards to take you to the temple during the day, then let them show you the lady houses at night. Don't find any lady you like. Rent a bicycle for a couple of bucks and peddle back the the lady houses. The prices drop from $30-40 long time to $15-20 long time. Short time can be had, if you're patient and stubborn, for as little as $5.

By Harold_johnson on Monday, March 01, 2004 - 05:44 pm:  Edit

Thanks guys. Wombat how far are the lady houses from where most mongers stay? Are rental bikes easly available? Is it safe to bike at night?

No problems, Harry. Siem Reep is pretty small. Not quite walking small, but certainly biking small. Most of the lady houses are on the west side of the river. If you're over that way, you can pretty much walk where you want. The place is pretty much bustling at night ... but not by Bangkok standards, mind you. You'll unlikely be out much after midnight if you're sanuking, so don't sweat it.

Harry,

I took advantage of the link posted by Oxguy (above) and engaged the services of Mr. Sam Sen as a driver when I was in Siem Reap last November with a group of family. I have no idea how well he knows the night life, Seim Reap is a small town and I was unable to escape last time around. As a day time guide/driver he was excellent. I suspect he knows his way around after dark as well. In "Scambodia" a driver that is on your side and doesn't take you around so his buddies fleece you is a priceless asset ... On my first trip to K-11 my driver in Phnom Pehn tried to convince me that the $30 Poppasan wanted for short time was a good deal!

I can also recommend this place for fine food and a fair price.

Thanks again. Yeah, besides Mr. Sen there's a Mr. Ben that is recommended by Merlin. I only have about three weeks before I arrive so I'm trying to absorb as much as I can. I will check out the driver thing for sure.

Siam Reap

Bars Street was disappointing, but the tuk tuks know where to take you. They brought me to massage parlor with girls in the fish bowl, I think it was called San Sabal. The quality was not much higher than an 8, but I asked the proprietor if the girls had any special talents, and he replied “ number 62, good BJ” Number 62 it was, and up to here I was thinking that there are no good bjs in Asia, but this proved me wrong. For $60 I took her back to my hotel for the night, and took advantage twice to completion. She was very talented 20, and a sweet girl .I re-hired her the second day at the same rate. Very nice. I should also mention that you could get pizzas laced with Marijuana here.

By Ezgab on Friday, September 23, 2005 - 02:15 pm:  Edit

You got ripped by having to pay for the tuk tuk drivers commission. I have alaws paid no more that 30 - 35 for the sam place. At least you had a good time

By Blondelover on Tuesday, September 27, 2005 - 08:39 am:  Edit

I paid the tuk tuk driver only the taxi fares. In many cities the tuk tuk driver gets a kickback from what you pay for the girl as a referral fee.

There is still good actions in Siem Reap. You need to look a little harder but keeping a good eye has its rewards. While in Siem Reap Cambodia I had the good fortune to find a most competent guide chhayleang yiv (chhay). Chhay can be reached at chhayangkorguide@hotmail.com
Chhay speaks good English and is very knowledgeable on the temples of Angkor Wat, the Siem Reap area as well as the local night life. I was always comfortable with his introductions. You need something or want to see something he was there basically available 24/7 if you need it. I also discovered that he has very reasonable rates, well below many of the other group guide rates. Chhay can arrange a choice of transportation from a well serviced Tuk-Tuk to an air conditioned vehicle that can accommodate what ever size your party is. It is best to send him a request via e-mail to ensure he is available on the days you need letting him know the size of your party. You will not be disappointed.

Anyone got an update on the action spots in Siem Reap? The Zanzybar is closed I guess, and the vietnamese places across the river are lame in service.

Is Molly Malones girl friendly? Their site bills it as a family friendly environment.

Damn, Val, you certainly get around. No wonder I have not seen you lately. Continue to enjoy traveling and life in general, friend!

Thai woman in Pattaya are cheaper than in the Capital Bangkok, but in Cambodia woman are cheaper in the Capital Phnom Penh [$10] yet siem reap is a whopping $60 [as much as] yet siem reap is mostly visited by backpacking students on a low budget.

I went to a Khmer nightclub were it was $3 for a woman to sit with you, so after i finished with her i paid her $5, $2 tip, but when i got the bill they still charged me the $3 along with the drinks, my taxi driver argued the bill but i still had to pay it.

By Illwillogical on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 - 11:18 pm:  Edit

I recommend if in Siem Reap, to go to the Temple Club, it's not a brothel but a bar, and many freelancers work there. Really cheap, but I am young some may pay more.

By Redbus on Thursday, June 12, 2008 - 07:04 am:  Edit

I got worried about going to clubs in seam reap as they suddenly seem to present you a bill for something, so i ended the night going to a casino and went to PP the next day.

Blue Wave Club, on adjacent st across fr Hotel de la Paix in central SR, walking distance. Small bar, 4-8 gals available, $20.

mototaxis ($1 rt) offered to drive me to a few bars, karoakes nearby. Gals quoted $30-40, seemed high.

Although riel is natl currency, usd is used for amts $1 or higher. ATMs dispense usd only. for amts <$1, riels are used. Some places in SR accept thb but baht drops 20% in value once u cross border.

many regular bars on pub st. $0.50 draft beer. Outdoor eateries tasty dinner $1. many cheap massage places including Dr Fish foot massage.

Reason to go to SR is Temples of Angkor, a must-see archeological site, grander than Borobudur & Prambanan in Java.

a few have asked how to get to SR by bus fr bkk. from MoChit bus stn take Air Aran Pattana a/c bus 8:30a, 212b, 4.5 hrs to Aranya Prathet (border). at border ignore the visa svc touts w/ legit-looking ID badges. only deal w/ uniformed officers at immigration.

walk acr the border, short distance. visa-on-arrival available 20usd + 100b svc fee (or 800b total if u dont have usd) for 1-month visa. need 1 passport-size photo for visa app.

ride free very old bus to bus stn in poipet nearby. i found a share taxi a/c to SR (2hrs) for 10 usd, maybe overcharged cuz the passenger sitting in the front seat was told to sit in the back w/ 3 other passengers as i was offered the front seat. if u take bus instead it takes twice as long
