Will be going to the Pattaya for 8 nights, first time in July. Looks like a lot of city to cover in that time. Any suggestions on "don't miss" bars or sois would be appreciated. I hope to get a mix of go-gos, beer bars, a soapie, and like to carouse late night too. Got a great street map and will be staying on Beach rd, soi 11

There's so much info on this board I'm struggling to get through it all. Thanks.

What dates in July? I'll be in LOS 7/2-7/9, mostly in Pattaya.

>Looks like a lot of city to cover in that time.

By the way - there are a shitload of bars and beer bars, but as for the mongering areas of the city, you'll have the lay of the land in about 24 hours. Baht buses doing the Beach Road/2nd Road circle thing. :-)

By Don Marco on Wednesday, May 10, 2006 - 10:37 pm:  Edit

Take the first 3-4 days and try to poke your head/have 1 drink in nearly EVERY bar. Hit soi 2, soi 8 (early evening), soi 6 (afternoon) beach road (afternoon) , soi 13/4 (8-9ish), and walking street for the rest of the night (down to Living Dolls Showcase). Look in every nook and cranny. If a place looks good, make a note and return the next day-- if it looks terrible skip it the next night. Keep culling each day and you'll quickly hone in on places that suit your style/desires quickly.

After bars start closing or your in the mood for something else, hit soi 7/8 and take in the beer bar scene. NEVER sit too long or stagnate in one place or you'll never get through 1/100 of the bars... look around, examine and interview a sweetie, feel up some tit and ass, gump down your drink and move on. Do not barfine a gal till you have at least poked your head in a half dozen places.

The bottom line is that bars I like, you may not. Bars that are super today may be cleaned out tomorrow, etc. You need to do you own recon and report back, which is 50% of the fun. You'll love it.

Make sure you get plenty of rest and treat yourself to lot of massages (footies or thai) and start out the next day by a stroll down the beach and eye some freelancers. After lunch, hit Soi6 or go get yourself a soapie on soi 2/3 and the cycle goes on and on and on and on till your penis raises the white flag.

Almost forgot-- after day 4 you should be hitting your stride and know your preferences by then. Now is the time is slow down and get to know the specific places you most enjoy. Sit in the bar, meet several girls, get the know the papa/mamasan, etc. Here is where you will begin to learn alot of the scene and it's workings.

There you have it-- easy to get through and your game plan.

I would recommend just staying in the Penthouse Hotel (highly recommended by none other than Porker !!) and ordering up girls from the Kitten Club via video. You have no need to leave your luxury room or walk anywhere. DM's plan wastes a whole lot of energy . Seen one Thai girl seen em all ! Why check out so many bars ?

Hi Marley

You will luv Pattaya. It's not that complicated for tourist purposes there are two streets, Beach Road ending in Walking Street and Second Road that run parallel to each other. These are cut by a number of Sois (avenues) about 20 of them including such fun numbers as soi 6 and soi 6/1. almost all of these Sois have Clubs, Go-go bars, pubs and massage and massage parlours on them. The best way to sort them out is to get a copy of Pattaya Nightlife it’s a small magazine free from the reception at The Penthouse. I would suggest booking the Penthouse for two nights and then plan on moving to somewhere more upmarket. The Penthouse is fun but it gets old quickly and Kitten does not have the best selection of girls. Pattaya’s reasonably safe so go walk about especially on Walking Street. This is a town designed for mongering.

Have Fun

Marley, since you're new around here, I'm going to point out that Khun_Mor's post WAS in jest (he was poking fun at someone from an unrelated message thread).

I'll second DM's remark that "Bars that are super today may be cleaned out tomorrow". I've stepped into bars and found them lame and unexciting, only to go back 3 hours later and find the place crawling with talent. That may be the exception rather than the rule, but you can't always judge a bar by your first visit.

There's a pretty good map of Pattaya here: http://www.guidetothailand.com/pattaya-thailand/map_pattaya_city.htm. The sections labeled North Beach Road and South Beach Road show the area most frequented by us mongers. Beach Road runs along the beach (duh), and 2nd Road runs parallel to it. Baht buses (little pickups you can just hop on/off at will for 10 baht) run circles from that traffic circle in the north to Walking Street in the south all day and night. Really easy to get around that part of town - wave down a passing baht bus, ring the bell to get off at your destination, pay 10 baht.

To give you some sense of scale - the whole North Beach/South Beach area can be circumnavigated in baht buses within minutes. You could even walk end to end in probably 45-60 minutes or so, but in that heat and humidity, you wouldn't want to. On the flip side, Soi 13 (where I'm staying) to Walking Street is an easy few minutes' stroll.

PS - Found another good map of the area here: http://www.pattayatelephonedirectory.com/images/pattayamap.gif

you have hurt my feelings
which i will be expressing in my collective support group meeting

so Toilets to DonMarko and khun_mor
As suggested by my group i shall find a place with lots of tree`s and flowers and have a cry

Red-- you DID miss a thread (i.e. discussion), but now that I read more of your litter, I'm more apt to agree with KM's latter diagnosis.

By Marley on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 04:10 pm:  Edit

Wow, thank you guys for those insights. I'm psyched. Feel a lot more ready to hit the ground running.

Will be in Pattaya July 1-8, then in BKK for a couple days. Phoneix, or anyone else, let me know where you'll be hanging maybe we can meet up. Don Marco, I will use that gameplan.

I just met Crazier the other night which was interesting. I was discussing Pattaya with Crazier and a friend who had just returned from Pattaya. My friends summary was that you really have to know where the hotties are; as Khun Mor said, "Why visit so many bars?" This is the problem, apparently there are now over 1,600 bars in Pattaya alone. Finding the "hot spots" can cost you a lot of valuable time and money. I agree with Khun Mor's view of Penthouse, I think they have a great concept. Many predators study their prey - just don't become the prey that's all LOL!

By Don Marco on Sunday, May 14, 2006 - 08:32 am:  Edit

Dave, you need to stop spiking the coffee. KM was not being literal. The only innovative concept Penthouse has is a generous food allowance for all the neighborhood roaches.

I've never had any problems finding places I like in pattaya.

"Bars' is not what one cares about, so the number of 1.6k is very misleading. What one cares about in the context of this thread is the # of gogos. The gogos are not all that numerous and one can easily make the rounds in an evening if they are deliberate.

As for small places, beer bars, etc-- there is no need to drink at every one-- you walk down the road (middle) and look. If something catches yer eye, stop. If not, keep walking. One can easily survey the vast majority of smaller bars/beerbars in 1/2 an evening with a stroll down soi 2, soi7, and soi8.

Dave what is more expensive --1 drink each @ 4 bars or 4 drinks on 1 bar? Now which one has more girls-- 1 bar or 4 bars... You can substitute 4 for "x" as well. Now, last, but not least-- the recommendations are meant to be strategic and phased...

Phase 1. recon, probe, grope
Phase 2. adapt, modify, continue groping
Phase 3. chill n' grope
Phase 4. go home, detox

By Dave_the_rave on Sunday, May 14, 2006 - 03:22 pm:  Edit

Don Marco, what I'm hearing from a lot of guys and bar owners is that the action in Pattaya is getting tremendously spread out, due to the rapid growth. At the rate Pattaya is going they will be building into the sea! You need to know the "hot spots" so mongers need to research a bit before their trip. Pattaya's bar scene can change overnight - one day you're hot next day you're not! There is some enormously out-of-date info on the Internet and this just adds to the confusion. In all due respect not everybody is a seasoned LOS veteran on this board.

Hey Don Marco, I like your four recommendations and I think you are ready for all four. I pitty the poor little pussy that gets smashed by DM on your next Mission Pussy Probe!

"You need to know the "hot spots" so mongers need to research a bit before their trip. Pattaya's bar scene can change overnight - one day you're hot next day you're not!"

Dave, I totally agree and therefore highly suggest that one performs a full recon of all major bars there the first few days (vs. planting themself in the first few that they come across and getting hitched as many newbs do).

By Porker on Sunday, May 14, 2006 - 04:02 pm:  Edit

DM, excellent advice. Especially when one may be reading info on the internet from some tightwad married Ex-pat that thinks a 10 baht discount on a beer makes a great bar and hasn't paid a barfine since Reagan was in office.

By Marley on Sunday, May 14, 2006 - 07:23 pm:  Edit

I've now got a solid beginning recon plan.

As for late night, say 1am-4am, are there some particularly better areas to focus on or is the whole town still hopping?

By Khun_mor on Sunday, May 14, 2006 - 07:26 pm:  Edit

Dave
Of course Penthouse has a great concept. Unfortunately it's poorly carried out in an ancient dump of a building and by an owner and staff that have NO clue about customer relations and may be the rudest hotel staff in Pattaya.

I was being sarcastic in my advice that one should sit in that crappy room, pulling girls from an unwatchable video channel streamed from an on site go go that is more a kennel club than a bar.

My real advice is to hit as many bars in differing areas as you feel comfortable doing in your first few days and find your own favorites. Even then the bars can change from day to day. If your after the trophies you gotta do the leg work and cannot rely on dated reviews.

By Phoenixguy on Sunday, May 14, 2006 - 08:18 pm:  Edit

Marley, Pattaya is about as "user friendly" as a mongering destination can be. You'll be an expert in no time. As for me, I'm getting to Pattaya July 3rd, probably early afternoon. I'll be staying at the Dynasty Inn on Soi 13. As usual, I'll post my Thai cell phone # on the CH Events calendar once I get to LOS and get a SIM card. And in case you're wondering how you're going to get on the internet - there are internet cafes all over the place.

By Don Marco on Sunday, May 14, 2006 - 10:33 pm:  Edit

1:30-3:30ish soi 7 and 8 is usally still hopping and if you don't find what your looking for, head to the soi 2 and 3 beer bar complex. If you haven't pulled anything by then, pickins are going to be slim indeed. If so, walk down beach roach at 4AM and let the ladyboys have at ya.

By Dave_the_rave on Monday, May 15, 2006 - 02:21 pm:  Edit

Hi KM, good advice but you know how some guys moan about the cost of this and the cost of that! If there were more regular bar updates, mongers could hit those hot spots immediately. Bar owners in Pattaya are saying that the enormous amount of bars is getting ridiculous. These guys see it evey day and have to face the complaints. Too many bars spread out all over the place is not good, therefore accurate updates arevery important. There will be EIGHT new go-go bars built over the next two months.

By Don Marco on Monday, May 15, 2006 - 03:35 pm:  Edit

"If there were more regular bar updates, mongers could hit those hot spots immediately"

why cater to sheep? It's a dog eat dog world, be a wolf or perish. I still think ANY specific bar recommendation is foolhardy if one is interested in girls (vs. the bar layout). It is in constant flux.

By Marley on Monday, May 15, 2006 - 05:35 pm:  Edit

Thanks Phoenix and DM. I am all set. All I have to do now is wait.. the hardest part.

By Khun_mor on Monday, May 15, 2006 - 08:47 pm:  Edit

Dave

I think someone would have a goldmine if they took the concept of Penthouse - i.e. rooms with a dancing stage with pole as well as a sex chair or swing etc. AND was able to combine it with comfortable modern rooms and a staff that knew how to deal with customers ala Dynasty, Sandy Spring, or Bella Villa Prima.

If I only had a few hundred million baht I think it would be a tremendous investment. Any co-partners ??

Sorry -- I know this duplicates a post in a different thread in answer to Dave who has posted about Penthouse in both threads. Gotta keep up with them Brits eh ?

By Dave_the_rave on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 - 01:57 am:  Edit

KM, put your "Penthouse" concept in or around Walking Street, and you would have a winning formula in the best location too.

DM, I still think that the bar updates are too sporadic but it would be good for guys to know where is hot and where is not. If there were more mongers like Walkingdude, we would receive accurate updates on a regular basis. However, a lot of info is included in many trip reports. I find it hard to disagree with your viewpoint as it can always be hit or miss in many places. Do you remember the thread where you stated that one has to be prepared for more leg work in Pattaya?

Really? I always give bar updates when I'm in town-- have you forgotten? Do you recall my "invasion of the whales" Angel Witch update last winter? :-)

"I find it hard to disagree with your viewpoint as it can always be hit or miss in many places"

I find minimal use in reading bar updates, mind you interesting, but not all that useful (usually).

"Do you remember the thread where you stated that one has to be prepared for more leg work in Pattaya?"

Yes, And I don't ever recall stating anything different. One needs to recon and survey all the bars imho. Should I repeat that mantra one more time?

Sorry, am I missing something part of the fun of Pattaya is walking around and checking out new and old places seeing what is hot and what’s not. Pattaya from a mongering point of view is relatively safe, easy to get around and compact. Any Pattaya Itinerary should include a mongering meander not as a chore but as part of the fun of being in LOS. Simple Pattaya Itinerary:
Arrive go to Sabai Land Massage pay BHT1600.00 and enjoy next go pack to the hotel and rest until about 9pm. At 9.00 take a slow walk to Tequila Reef on Soi 7 stopping at any place that looks interesting, have an acceptable Mexican meal at Tequila Reef, drink one or two Margaritas and head to beach road catch a ride BHT10.00 to Soi 12 or 13/1 then meander up and down the Sois and Walking street stop at the Penthouse and pick up a copy of Pattaya Nightlife (its free) use the map visit the places mentioned on this sight and the places that aren’t. Sit and drink where you feel the need, the girls are the easy part. Mix match and repeat for as long as you can and good luck you lucky, lucky bustard.
