The Tunnel
Over the last month or two, I've been to a great after hours club on Langsuan soi 5 (actually at the corner of Langsuan and Langsuan Soi 5). Only been there from 2 pm on, but virtually every Friday or Saturday night that I've been there, it's been packed. Unlike many of the after hours bars, it's not a hastily reclaimed rundown store, apartment or warehouse. It's decor inside is kind of like a cave and they have a DJ, not a live band. When you pull up to the address, if you haven't been there before, just look for all the people heading off into the darkness. It's maybe 50 feet off the road, and they usually have maybe 3 o4 4 candles lighting the steps up to the door, the only lights outside. Can't remember the cover charge now, mainly because it's cheaper to buy a bottle and keep it there, especially if you're going with several friends, because you can bring in several people on one bottle (I've taken in as many as 5). The action inside is a combination of freelancers, guys bringing in their Thai "dates", and expat couples (both farang and farang/thai mix). Been there at least once on a weekday, and it was pleasantly filled but not packed, and might not be as good a place to go for a freelancer as a weekend night. They turn on the lights at 3:30 am. Given that it's a bit more upscale (and the apparent investment the owners made into the decor) than many of the usual latenight dregs, I'm wondering if it's either got a legit latenight license, or has paid off the right people, to be sure they stick around. Hopefully that won't change soon.

Above: they tore the tunnel down and they still haven't built anything.
