I was in Ko Samui last week with my thai girlfriend for a romantic getaway, and had a chance to go check out the new Q Bar there (sister bar to the Bangkok club on Sukhumvit Soi 11). It's located west of the beach road along Chaweng Beach, just north of the lake on the road that goes up to the Buddha's Footprint, I believe. They've got a website, including a map, you can check out at www.qbarsamui.com. I was there on a Thursday evening, so didn't get a full crowd impression of the place, in fact it wasn't very crowded at all (but then it's low season in Samui). It has a lot of the same feel, both in decor, style, music, and wait staff, as the Q Bar in Bangkok, and at least on a weeknight, is a pleasant place to relax, but not much action for a single guy. It's also enough off the beaten path, that you can't readily walk to it from Chaweng Beach, but that might also be a good thing if you're looking for some more upscale action on the weekend than just another bar girl. Typically Q Bar in Bangkok seems to attract a bit more upscale crowd, primarily because it's got a pricier covercharge. I believe that is probably the case in Samui, although there wasn't a cover charge when I was there on a Thursday night. Prices for drinks are on a par with the Bangkok bar, and if you have a rental car in Samui, you might find parking a challenge since it's only street parking, but on a loop road that on a weekend, I suspect may fill up pretty quick. Since it's up on a hill, it might be a steep walk if you have to park very far away. If anyone has a chance to check it out on a weekend night, I'd be curious of their impressions.
