This is a 5 star hotel. You can pick up a deal on the internet.

I arrived at the airport and was met by hotel staff. My luggage was immediately taken from me and loaded into a new Toyota Camry. Upon arriving at the hotel I was met by nice lady who took me straight to my room and checked me in. I have traveled to many locations in the world. The customer service here was close to the best I have ever received. Nice Spa facilities. I called and made sure that transportation was included to and from the airport as part of the package.

Had dinner one night at the Bukhara restaurant at the Sheraton. It has very nice Tandoori (North Indian/Afgani food). This is a very popular restaurant - you MUST make reservations.

Around the corner from the hotel I went to a place called Cottage Emporium. It’s in Connaught Place. Its government owned shopping place. Prices are basically fixed and already discounted. Another place to visit is the Hauz Khas Village, where you can negotiate

Agra-Taj Mahal
If you are in New Delhi, you must go to Agra to see the Taj-Mahal. You do not need to spend a night there. I talked to the concierge and hired an outside driver to take me there. It was under $100. We left at 5am, was in Agra before 8am. The driver, who did not speak that much English had a guide meet us at the Taj-Mahal who took me inside the Taj-Mahal. He did not ask for a tip, but of course I have him $20 and he was delighted. I was back in New Delhi by 1pm. Some will advise you to take a train. Not me, the drive in itself was an experience. Basically door to door service. You can pay $300 for a hotel car. The one that was suggested from outside was fine. It was clean and the a/c worked fine.

As far as P4P. I tried to get some information. At your higher end hotels it is frowned upon. I was advised that during the day it is not a problem, but at night they look for this activity.

Usually girls in India, dont mix up quick.. adding to Defender's post: if u wanna go to Agra - Taj Mahal by train u can buy tkt at the tourist ticket office (where lines are shorter) at the new delhi train station. buy tkt few days in advance as they are in high demand.

try to visit taj mahal in the morning when it opens to avoid the large crowd & very long lines. admission 20rp for indian, 750rp for foreigner (includes water & shoe slippers). there's a separate ticket window for foreigners & shouldnt need to wait in 2hr long line to the site entrance. Once in the site go straight to the taj before another long line forms to walk thru the taj.

forgot to add that the taj mahal is closed fridays for maintenance. didnt see any 7-eleven or qwik-e-mart.

if u wanna visit the dalai lama (appt. required) his home-in-exile is in one of the provinces north of delhi (i cant remember which one). om mani padme hum...

ok, dalai lama home base & tibetan govt-in-exile located in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh.

from delhi there are trains & buses to pakistan if u wanna hunt terrorists. only official land border crossing is in Attari (India) / Lahore (Pakistan), west of amritsar - home to golden temple. americans need to apply visa in advance to enter pakistan. 6-month india tourist visa about 130usd for americans (must apply for in advance).

fr lahore u can continue by bus or taxi thru the Khyber Pass to afghanistan (obtain visa in advance). foreigners require armed escort from Khyber Rifles, gratuity expected; life insurance optional but not a bad idea. namaste.
