I'm not a particularly big fan of this site. It's about a twenty minute read but I couldn't stop.
In my opinion it's the most accurate, unbiased and honest discussion of the pitfalls of involvement with Thai women.

I do have a friend who works in Bangkok with a Thai wife and two children, his wife has never been in the bar business, when they met and they was going steady with each other, she ask him if he would take her to one of these bars, but he never got around to doing it, there happy with each other, I think the problem comes when you meet someone who has worked the bar for a while.

The articule is Bullshit! Some guy who is lonely in life trying to justify his failure in his life of not having a long term meaningful realtionship with a woman. He refers to the great marriage of his parents and because he has not found a woman ( a Thai Woman where he chose to live) to share his life with....of course it is the Thai Culture that is the cause of his failure.
Most every point he make about Thai women and men can be applied to American culture......women telling their secrects to their friends instead of their husbands, After getting married women want to live beyond their means to raise their perception of their social status, etc.
The guy needs to really look inside himself and be honest with himself and reevalulate and maybe he will see more of the problem lies with him than with Thai women!

Beachman, I am not so sure about that. I have had a Thai girlfriend on and off for over 7 years and a lot of what he said hit pretty close to home. Especially the part about the lies, deceit, covering up lies with bigger lies, saving face and the best of all when she is cold busted on something deny and turn it around. I know a lot of women do this kind of thing, but this girl took it to a level like I have never seen. I actually thought she had mental issues. I could tell you the most outrageous stories you have ever heard. She grew up here, but the culture is very strong. BTW, her mom is the same way.
Lastly, you are saying the problem lies with him. Do you know him? AZ

Azguy-
I am just saying the guy seems to have had personal experiences with Thai girlfreinds that that have made him cynical...He uses phrases like Thai whores and Golddiggers. And of course his "Thai mother " is the exception who ever his Thai mother is. I find it hard to believe he was in Thailand in the early 70' and it was until 1988 that he ever even talked with a Thai women worked in the sex industry.
Sure Thai culture is different and traditions are different. It doesn't mean that it is any worse or different than our Western traditions. I find most Thai women different in that they work hard....are smart with their money saving it....and are almost apologetic when you spend money on them. Of course there are Golddiggers like there are all over the World.
Consider that he is writing this on Stickman's guide to Bangkok....guys like him love a sympathtic audidence of readers who have also struck out in love!
By the way Azguy....you have great taste in women....those are some hot chicks post on your PAD!

Wow, this is a fantastic article. So much of it rings true with my limited experience in Thailand. So many of the issues with duplicity and superficiality are a large part of why I eschew the place.

Sorry, just had to pick myself up off the floor, I was laughing so hard at this statement. Let me dab the tears running down my cheeks....

C'mon Murasaki, give Beachman a break. It's a known fact rather than waste their hard-earned money on frivolous things, Thai women have a knack for investing and getting great returns on the sick water buffalo futures market.

I think the overwhelming majority of Thai women that encounter the overwhelming majority of farang male visitors probably fit the description in this discussion, but it's not exactly an unskewed population sample on either side. I dare say most of the male farang population going to Thailand (and most of the members on this site) are focused on getting good sex as cheaply as possible, and that is the primary reason they go to Thailand. Similarly, most of the women in Thailand that cater to them, complement that "demand" with their own "supply", by tending to be women who first and foremost seek money for shallow short time relationships, which they are willing to forgo as soon as they find a better (more $$$) source of demand. That's what guys of that type are going to attract to the venues where they are looking for women. Much of what is said can be said about women everywhere (especially if you are cynical enough) if you're looking at the right population. If you come to Thailand looking for a long lasting relationship from a bar girl, or working girl, you do so at your own peril if your eyes are not fully open, you take your time to check out the girl, and ALWAYS be a bit skeptical of her intentions until she has established a track record of her words in your ear on the pillow at night, matching her actions in day to day life. It does not mean all Thai women everywhere in Thai society are like the ones described in the website above, just the ones that most of you all are likely to encounter.

Forgot to mention one other thing from my own experience of working in Thailand...
Regarding the "work ethic" of Thai women... I've a lot of experierence interacting with working women (and I mean in a legitimate job for a company, not in a bar or club, picking up johns) in Thailand, in China, and in the U.S., i.e. I've worked extensively with all of them. I can tell you that the work ethic I've seen among Thais is MUCH higher than their Chinese counterparts (again, not prostitutes, but women with legitmiate jobs), and at least as strong, if not stronger than I've seen in their American counterparts. Maybe I've only been fortunate to have worked with good Thai companies, but I have to say, the Thai women I've seen have really been some of the hardest working individuals I've seen anywhere. Interesting though, that there seemed to be a tendency to hire women, and not men, who from what I've seen in Thailand, don't have the same work ethic. (I've been told, that Thai men are treated a bit as "princes" by their parents, to be waited on, and the daughters are expected to work to make a good life for the family).

The article seems to hit about 1 in every tend points the author attempts to hit where Thai women are concerned. The 90 percent that he misses can be toward any woman of any race. For instance:
Author: "I guess she is very characteristic of Thai women in one way, as she is cunning, stubborn, and expects her men to do accede to her requests"
Bowler: Same same American women
Author: "One of the things that really annoys me about Thai ‘friends’ is that they are only your friends when things are going well, while in bad times, they will desert you for the other side"
Bowler: Same same Americans friends and family.
Author: "Thais are particularly good at using their skills to mislead or deceive others"
Bowler: American Women never do this do they?
Author: "..only to find out that when I speak Thai, they become very cautious and concerned about what my interests are in the country"
Bowler: Like we don't get suspicious when a thai girl knows a lot of English.
Author: "I’ve had a number of male Thai co-workers over the years and one of the things that I found interesting was how much these people’s lives changed when they married. One fellow told me about the time when he was still dating his wife; she was not particularly demanding and never really asking for anything. They both had careers and he felt that when they wed, this aspect of their lives would continue on in a similar vein. He mentioned how it wasn’t long after marriage that his wife began to ask that he begin buying more and more items, expensive cars, a second home in Chiang Mai (a middle class Thai mark of success?), etc"
Bowler: This is par for American women
I think the Author is a little bitter that his life didn't go as expected. Still a good read though to see other points of view.
Trying to figure out the female mind?...I'll take up quantum physics, it'll be easier.
