Just a short baht bus ride to the South of Pattaya is Jomtien Beach. This place is a whole different world. Much cheaper accomodation and food here because many Thais frequent this place. Many beach front cottage-hotels for about 700 baht ($17).
The Palm Beach Hotel has a private balcony overlooking the beach and is closed off to vehicle traffic. The Grand Jomtien ( a large, nice hotel) has rates as low as 900 baht with breakfast for two.
Beach chairs line the beaches and are rented for about 20 baht a day. It is so damn cool to have people come up to you with fresh durian, beer, steamed crab and shrimp, and other goodies for such a cheap price. Had a lady give me a manicure and a massage in my chair for about 100 baht ($2.50). GF got a henna tatoo for about 150 baht as well (last about 2 weeks). Place is very quiet and has some lovely ladyboys laying out (played a game with gf called 'guess who's the katoey').
There are several beer bar complexes here but on a smaller scale. The only drawback is that a lot of older German men love to take their young, Thai boyfriends here to enjoy the day...kind of gross. Great day trip to take your tiruk and pure paradise on the beach..very quiet.

Thanks Blazers,
I had noticed this place and was thinking of trying the beach for a day when I come out in November. Any additional info would be appreciated.

Mcdijj,
I won't even bump into you in the airport. 11/22 thru 12/1 for me. Look forward to hearing your on the scene reports though. I have developed a quick list of must stop by there places for my 3 days in Pattaya and 4 days in BKK trip. I will post said list in a few months to compare notes. Must admit Blazers is becoming a significant influence on said list.
Fat Germans in speedos with lady boys. There's a concept I don't care to ponder for long.

Gitano,
Too bad we will miss each other. I am making my first trip to Rio in late march and would have liked the chance to listen to your stories and tips.

Whenever I got to Pattaya, I stay in Jomtien. I like it far better. I stay at the Jomtien Boathouse which is a great place with a nice restaruant. The owner also own's the Residence Garden (I think that's the name anyway) in Pattaya. The beach, right across the road, is a great place to relax, have a Beer Sing and some great food for cheap.

some great looking girls down in this neglected part of Pattaya, one (not that good) go-go bar, some lookers in Olivers, Pukkys Bar. definitely worth an evenings or afternoons fun.

Very few freelancers on the beach seems to be more ladyboys as they got chucked off pattaya beach.
