Did not want to start my post with this report but felt obligated to inform all of you CH guys that we never know when its our last day! On vacation or at home - Live, Love & Laugh (in between your licking & lying. LoL)

Driving/Riding cars or bikes in the Philippines is not for the weak, there are seldom any rules when it comes to driving in PI, This trip i witness 5 accidents, 2 auto, 3 bike, one was fatal.

In all fairness if you have a weak stomach please STOP NOW!
I know some of you may think this is in BAD taste but due to the events that unfolded I want to remind all of you that we are mostly visiting 3rdWorld Countries & how (how Not) quickly medical attention my come to the rescue. And how dangerous some of the countries can become when intoxicated!

With the up-most respect for this person and to his family and friends it unfortunate that this happen. R.I.P

On March 28th about 11:50pm while standing outside the Perimeter Hotel / Emotions go-go, I witness the worst motorcycle accident I have ever seen, not because it was gory or disgusting but because a fellow Rider lay for 40min with out anyone (police, tourist, medical) helping him out. Looking back I feel very bad and kick myself in the ass that I did not react and try to help ( after the police & barangy captain told me not to)

After a Billiard tournament in Emotions this guy ( living in AC) sat and drank with 2 girls till about closing, It was only about six of us in the bar as it was almost closing time. As he departs the bar he waived to me and the door girl as I was standing in the doorway on an overseas business call. He did not seem intoxicated at first so no one even gave him a second look. After siting on his bike and trying to start it he fell over, dropping it , and rolling on the ground. Security and a passer buyer helped him to his feet and the 3 of them began to pick up the motorcycle. The 1 guys asked if he was cool to drive and then went his way. As I'm still 15ft away he re-mounts the bike and begins to re-start it! Due to the fact it had fell over, it would not start right up (in about 2 minutes-what seemed like 10 min ) he started it up, waved goodbye to all of us out front and began backing up into the street!
He started the first few feet like he was OK then he proceed up Don Juico Ave (Perimeter) on the opposite side, then instantly he started picking up speed and veering right. towards the parked tri cycles Seeing this I told the person I was on the phone with HOLD ON and started to Yell "Oh Shit his gonna crash" As many of the frequent visitors to Angles City know the cars fly up that road {sometimes called "No Man's Land"} With a van racing up the street, them damn crazy PINOY Horns... he started blowing, the guy on the bike tried to outrun & pass but ran into a tree a few feet pass American Hotel

The few girls still in the bar (whom he was drinking with, myself and the manager ) ran over to him. At first he was still moving his feet, as 15- 20 people stood around him I ran back to the Perimeter hotel to try and call someone! No 911 is this place so i was lost 10 min went pass and still no police nothing , the bar fine I was with was begging a tricycle driver to pick him up and run him to the hospital as it was not too far ,but no one would even budge. the Police arrived about 20min but just stood there looking saying they needed to wait for an ambulance and photographer, So I ran up 2 my room grab my camera and started taking pics, 20 min still nothing 30min nothing ...at this point he was no moving and was turning blue... a few visitors were debating if they should pick him up and just bring him but no one not even me had the guts to pick this guy up!! The ambulance arrived 40 min after the accident ... next morning as i walk down from my room the girl he was sitting with told me he died ! I saw the whole thing in slow motion over and over again and cant forget it! I hate the fact no one stopped him from getting on his bike, most guys the next morning said : "that's life" , "gotta go gotta go " but I know its fucked up how he went, could have been prevented - No Helmet, Drink & Driving, Better medical asst! WE all spend too much money in Angles not to have a better tourist police / medical asst! Felt like i was in a ghetto in USA no police no nothing Damn...

doa

I too ride with no helmet in Ohio & FL and even sometimes in Pattaya but i will now go out and buy a full face, this could have been prevented! Please think about your actions and ride and stay safe....

I did rent a car and drove it for 1 week in laguna and manila. Thank God I did not have any problems. But I would not do it again. Of course I did not drink and I was 100% focused while driving.

Yeah....no more late night bike rides for me. I wrecked my motorcycle on a patch of sand and landed right on my head--in the Phils--and all I had was a beer two hours before! It took me a few months to get my head back on straight! Concussion, broken ribs, arm, lots of strawberries. Got off lucky, I suppose. I don't envy you for what you witnessed. Life is so cheap in the Phils that it makes me wonder who'll miss me there if I were to suddenly go? My honeyko will be left to deal with me. It may be a while before the news and the embassy report me correctly back home. Not a nice prospect.

Hope we all have a wingman to put us on a trike. I don't dare drink too much and drive back home--gives me new respect for the angels on the next bar stool.

Don't kick yourself too hard for not doing enough. It's not as if we've been trained very well for these things. But I'm sure you won't forget it. I've got Red Cross training and had a guy die in my arms. I'll never forget it. Thanks for having the guts to share this experience....
