i didn't look for an atm at the airport but my buddy had a hard time finding one. he changed a $20 to get some dong for the taxi. i had some small US bills with me and used a $5.

once at the hotel, i used two places for money. there is an atm on the second floor of the sheraton (my hotel was across the street from the sheraton). i liked this because you weren't standing on the street as your two million dong came out of the machine (16,000VND to 1USD).

there was also an exchange office near the corner of dong khoi and mac thi buoi. if you walk towards the river on dong khoi take a right on mac thi buoi and you'll see it on your right.

my buddy changed a $100 into $20's at the sheraton front desk. the $20's were handy for the S/T hotel.

i read somewhere that no place outside vietnam will change dong so make sure you change back to your currency before departing. i kept mine because i'll be going back.
