A new hotel opened on Soi 8 in Bangkok during my recent visit, so I decided to give it a try my last two nights, upgrading from the usual slum property I normally stay at. The place is called Adelphi Suites. Here is the contact info:
www.adelphisuites.com
enquiry@adelphisuites.com
Telephone is 66-2-617-5100.
I booked my room on the internet at 2499 baht a night, which included a complimentary breakfast in the restaurant. I was quite impressed with the place. Most importantly, it is girl friendly. I had no problems bringing in pooying. They do require that the girls leave their ID at the front desk. Also, they make photocopies of the ID, so in case there are problems later…
For those of you who are not fond of girls unexpectedly showing up outside your door, the elevators require a room key to operate, so unwanted visitors will not be able to get out of the lobby.
As far as I am concerned, the location can’t be beat. I’ve been staying on Soi 8 for many years now, primarily because of the ultra-convenient location. The Nana Skytrain station literally sits at the soi entrance, and the Adelphi is literally a two minute walk to the station. The skytrain is my lifeline, as I use it to get most everywhere. Soi 8 also sits halfway between Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy, so one can walk to either.
There is a lap pool with a great view, along with a fitness center, up on the roof, so be sure to check those out if you ever stay there.
In my best Xenono tradition, below are some shots of the standard room, and the view out of the window from my room on the 10th floor. For those of you who travel with Khun Mor’s budget, actual suites are available as well. I give the hotel a big thumb’s up.

That's the standard room ??
Sweet !
I would love to see the suites.
Much better location than Pres Solitaire as well. If I ever get back to BKK I think I have a new home .

Damn ! Just used my brain and went to the website. The one bedroom is awesome and only 3,400 a night ??
Wow.
Blows away Pres Solitaire. Even has a washing machine for you domestic types or those of us who tend to attract GF's , hehe

Murasaki: Thanks for the head up. If I ever run out of Starwood points and have to start paying for a hotel in Bangkok (hope it never happens though), this one looks very promising.

Yeah, the place is sweet, and the location can't be beat. I just realized I forgot to post the window view. You can see the skytrain tracks, Times Square, Sheraton, etc.

Thanks Mr. Murasaki, I send you a cyber-wei for the good info. Can you please comment on whether they had internet service in the rooms, and what the charge was if any.
Thanks!
LM

They did have wi-fi in the hotel, but I don't know any particulars as I don't own a laptop. Maybe the web site will have some info on it. But I remember seeing signs in the lobby advertising it.

The cab driver wanted to charge me 450 bht but I told him to turn on his meter and take the toll hwy. The trip cost 340 bht which included the 50 bht airport surcharge and 75 bht for the toll road. The Adelphi is a beautiful hotel and is only 2 sois from Nana Plaza. It is a very quite hotel. Breakfast was included in the price and they serve a hot breakfast. The room had unlimited free Wifi and an electronic safe. The hotel is guest friendly. The elevator is card secured so that possessive Thai girl you’re trying to shake can’t show up at your door.

Stayed in the one bedroom. Like the fact that I have a washing machine. The view was fantastic. I had a full glass window to one side. Soi 8 is a good location. Cut through the back alley to Nana Plaza. Really near the train. Across the street from Soi 11. Internet was fine. I believe I used a LAN. But to be honest I do not remember. Recommended.
As a comparison, I like Grand President, President Solitaire and Adelphi about equally. Adelphi is more convenient. Grand President (Deluxe Suite) is cheaper. President Solitaire feels a bit more upscale than Adelphi and significantly more upscale than Grand President. I think I will split my time between the three.

Stayed here for a couple of days last week and was very pleased with the room and facilities.
I got some kind of limited time offer of 1840B, am not sure what regular price is.
Right around the corner from Lólita's and about 5 min from Nana and 2 min to the sky train.
My room had a kitchenet with refrige, coffee machine, microwave and a washing machine.
The small living room had 42" LCD and stereo.
The bedroom had a 36".
Nice shower with lots of pressure and separate tub.
The included breakfast was adequate and there was a complementary happy hour drink.
Girl friendly.
Overall a good experience.

Time for an update. I recently had another stay here. I must say I really like this hotel. This time I opted for one of the suites. I got a corner suite, which have less floor space than the suites in the middle of the building. But on the plus side you get views out two sides.
Please note they have instituted a new policy about guests - they must be at least 20 years old. When I quizzed the manager about it, she said that they were following Thai law, that the age of consent was 20. I informed her that it was the only hotel that did that. Everyone else was 18. She was surprised to hear that. I also told her that girls are allowed to dance in gogos at 18, not 20. I think she was getting the drinking age and the sex age mixed up.
Anyway, aside from that policy, the place is still very guest friendly.
Here are some photos of the corner suite:
Here are two shots looking out the windows. The first shot is looking down Soi 6. You can clearly see Phachara Suites, and the new Shama Serviced apartments next to Nana Hotel.
The second shot is looking at Nana Station. Lólita's is literally below the room. It's about a 45 second walk from the front of the hotel. :-)

So no joiner fee? even if you registered in a standard room as a single?
How much per night for your corner suite?
By Murasaki on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 - 07:30 pm: Edit |
No fee (guest friendly means guests allowed with no joiner fee). I would never stay at a hotel that had a fee.
Pricing depends on the season. I was there during the peak of high season (at the holidays), so the room was around $125 a night.
I've seen them as low as $80 a night.
