Thailand is well known for its medical and dental tourism. Several people on this board routinely visit the dentist in Thailand, whether it be Bangkok, Chiang Mai, or Pattaya. I thought I would start a thread dedicated to the topic so we can all share our experiences in one place. I'll start of with my recommendation below.

I can’t rave enough enough about this place. The quality of work they did was fantastic, and so was the price. Their facility is top-notch, with state of the art equipment.
I had an exam, x-rays, fillings, a night guard made, and consultations over the possible need for root canals and crowns.
I was also impressed by their prompt responses to all of my inquires via e-mail. They responded to every inquiry I sent, and sent me a full price list for all services, something neither Bumrungrad nor Yanhee bothered to do.
The dentists were also quite honest in telling me that I didn’t need work done that I was told I did need in the US. That saved me a bundle of money and earned my respect.
All of the dentists I encountered were female, and I fell in lust for one of them. Great legs and a voice that turned me to jello. Never had that happen with a dentist before, since they’ve all been males in their 50’s.
Going forward I will try to outsource as much dental work as I possibly can to this place.
Getting there is easy. Take the skytrain to Thong Lo station, walk west on the north side of Sukhumvit to soi 51, walk to the end of the soi, turn left where it hits the “T”, then turn right on soi 49 in about 100 meters. The hospital is another 200 meters or so down soi 49, on the right. It’s about a 15 minute walk.

I too would like to extoll the virtues of the Dental Hospital Bangkok. I had a root canal, a cleaning and a filling done in December 2007. The prices were good, services were top-notch, and yes, there were some attractive staff members as well. I highly recommend for anyone needing work done.

Gents, How are the teeth going after your treatment?. How do their prices compare to where you reside? Can you walk in off the street or do you have to make an appointment.Your reply would be helpful, i am planning to go over with-in the month.

Loader, my teeth are feeling fine. My crown is sturdy and has no signs of weakening or eroding.
You should have an appointment in advance. I was able to make all of my appointments via email (see Murasaki's post above), to which they were very responsive and thorough in providing me information.
Their prices were significantly lower (by about 70%) than where I live, which is Munich, Germany. In fact the savings paid for my plane ticket.

Cost savings over California were enormous. Front fillings were 1000 baht (currently $33) over $259 in the bay area. Molar fillings would be around 1600-1800 baht. Exam and x-ray costs barely registered on the radar.
Lamuerte, did the dentist who did your crown have an impeccable American accent and great legs? ![]()

Thanks fella's. Jesus the way you both describe the dentist, i'll have to go now. If either of you are over that way in a month or so, its my shout for a drink-a-thon. Regards
P.S Buy the way Murasaki,i did what you advised and enquired by email. They got back to me with-in 24 hrs. Very good.

Mura, no, I unfortunately did not get that dentist. Mine was quite nice with decent english, but middle-aged and unremarkable in terms of looks.
Did certainly see some hotties walking around in their white uniforms though...very nice while sitting and waiting in the lobby :-)

I just had some work done here
http://www.bangkokdental.com/EN/fees.htm
The crown and root canal went ok, it was a filling that he messed up on, took a few weeks of discomfort and a few trips back to get it right. Things like this have happened to me in the US as well, I'm just glad the problem is solved.
Last time had work done in the US was in 2000. I have to say, when all was said and done, it cost about as much as I would pay in the SF Bay Area if I had insurance. Actually, maybe even a little more (of course YMMV with your coverage). For instance, I had a crown done, I picked the 11,000b version. But then they had to build up the foundation and put in a post, which came to another 4,500b. They didn't tell me about this until I came back after the root canal was done, when I arrived for the appointment to have the crown mold made. It was a surprise, and I didn't have sufficient $ in my pocket.
Don't sweat the legs, you'll be staring at the ceiling anyway. Actually, they covered my face while the work was going on! Maybe the dentist had a weak stomach. They usually have receptionists provide the eye candy.

Just returned from Bangkok and Pattaya. I did book at the dental hospital before i left the homeland and arrived on-time for my proceedures. At first there were 3 xrays, then came the dental check-up.This is where the cracks started to appear. The old female dentist told me she only had a 30 minute allocation for me to clean all teeth ready for fillings(3).She told me i would have to come back the next day.I was there at 10.30am for all the proceedures discussed in their quote. So after some heavy discussion things went silent and another nurse came in.During the silent time i looked over at the instrument tray that she was going to use and saw the instruments had water stains all over them. These were not steralised instruments.I just simply got up and left. They tried to do the explanation thing saying the stains on the untensils were from the dentist putting on her wet gloves. These were dry stains and were clearly there for some time. Now i have been to plenty of dentists at home and all utencils are steralized properly.Going on this trip with a buddy of mine, and reading some reports i thought i would give them a try. BUT stuff that i will not risk my health in such a dodgy dental joint. I have sent them an email explaining what went on and what i saw, they sent one back appologising and hoping to see me again.NOT LIKELY.

Loader: Just so there is no confusion, are you talking about the Dental Hospital Bangkok at 88/88 Sukhumvit 49.
| By Loader on Sunday, May 11, 2008 - 05:27 am: Edit |
Laquy, That is correct.Dental hospital Bangkok 88/88 Sukhumvit 49. Lets face it,when it comes to health always go to someone you can trust,or claim on if something goes wrong. With my health insurance here the service will cost another $500,peace of mind will always shine through. If something happened to me there and i urgently needed emergency dental treatment,i would steralize the instruments myself,or be on the next flight out.

I find it hard to believe you are talking about the dental hospital as posted by me at the beginning of this thread. There is another place in Bangkok that calls itself the same name. The one I posted about was by no means a "dodgy dental joint." Your experience certainly doesn't jibe with mine, nor with the other people I know who have been there. So I am wondering if it is the other place.

Murasaki, It sure is the same place as discussed above. Before i left AUS i emailed them numerous times to ensure correct adress and to get a complete price list.We then organised proceedures that need done over the coarse of a day and a half. Its a rather new looking building down soi 49 on the right. When you sit in the waiting area, outside looks like a garden with a fish or carp pond. It also has a little cafe near the waiting area, above the reception area.

I'm not dentist-phobic, but I am pretty picky about who I let put their fingers in my mouth.
At Murasaki's recommendation, I visited this clinic 6 months ago. Had exam, x-rays, root planing and a wisdom tooth extracted for a pittance. No complications except 25% diminution of wisdom ;-)
Was back a week ago for another exam, cleaning and filling replacement. Best recovery / lowest aftereffects I've ever had following drilling or anesthetic. Total: $70
2 thumbs up so far.

After having dealt with the Bangkok Dental Clinic quite a bit the last three weeks I would have to give them one thumb up and one thumb down. Some of the first experiences I had there bordered on horrible; in light of some more recent seemingly successful oral surgery (seemingly because only time will tell if it really succeeded) I am going to change from a two thumbs down to a mixed review. Some good dentists, and some horrible ones. But for me, definitely not two thumbs up unless you have recommendations for specific dentists there.

Ok, for fillings I can personally recommend Dr. Tipparat. She did a fantastic job. I don't know what else she works on.
For crowns, bridges, implants, and nightguards, I recommend Dr. Mayuree.
Hopefully Tujunga can remember the names of his dentists, and LAGuy can discuss the name for his oral surgery if it indeed turns out to be successful. :-)

Are there any other places people have had experience with?
I had some work done at Bumrungrad three years ago (a crown installed, some dental work that a Brasilian dentist messed up was corrected), and was pretty happy with it. But I know it was the expensive dentist.

My Medellin dentist does excellent work for approx 20-22% the cost of my American dentist.
I posted a thread about him under Medellin dentist or you can search for Juan Carlos Mejia
