It's not open yet (as of mid-April) but should open this summer. Expectations are high, and it's rumored to have a first-rate pool superior to the one at Angeles Beach Club.

The hotel has a web site address being held, but it isn't functional yet. The address is:

I wonder what the rates for this place are going to be?

Probably at least in the US 100 per night?

By Khun_mor on Friday, April 11, 2008 - 11:29 pm:  Edit

I ahve a confirmed reservation for July . Here is the rate table they sent me .

BTW the small print says price includes free buffet breakfast and they are supposed to have a great restaurant . However also says may include 10% service charge - but VAT included.

I posted this in the chat area but probably better here. The owner/manager has posted on PIat Night that he is offering a temporary 15% discount on all rooms for members of that board. A nice discount and it's a free board to join . I have not seen discounts offered on any other board as yet and the guy only seems to post on PI at Night . Board name Klingon. It's actually not too bad a site. Some good PI info. Flame free as the moddies boot anyone for flaming or even criticizing pics !! Sign up and save. He has not said when offer ends but if you request discount now when you book it's good for whenever you stay .

Any word yet on the amenities in the various rooms. I always go for a room with a good jacuzzi when in AC.

I'll look forward to your report after you stay there.

Thanks, KM. The website was up briefly yesterday but is down again today. The version that was up was still primarily the shell, but had the main graphic in place and all the contact info.

From the above it's not clear that they will have rooms with jacuzzis. I may have to stick with the PB.

BTW when I finally got my final confirmation letter about rates I got the 15% discount already figured in and it stated VAT AND Service charge plus 2 free buffet breakfasts a day were inclusive. The 280 Pres Suite became 238 all inclusive. Seems the Plus possible 10% service charge has gone away.

The owner actually posted that for at least for a while he was willing to pay for breakfast for your Wife du Soir for all rooms regardless of how many persons are registered.

When was the last time you returned to your hotel alone at 3 am in Asia? Maybe when Reagan was president?

Damn !! Reagan was President ? You mean the guy that made movies with monkies ?? I missed that .
I did say " if I ever " -- a threesome would be OK also.

I hear they have bellgirls as well. No way I can let a little pinay try to lug my suitcase around. That's just weird.

Lewis the owner is a really young guy - looks about 30 at most. Seen him in a bunch of barhopping pics on other sites. He's one of us ! He must do all the hiring and "interviewing".

One more little tidbit of info that may be important to some - this hotel has no backup generator. If there's a brownout, you will have no AC, no lights, no TV...

I know his because I stopped at a pool party there Sat night, only to find the entire place completely dark. The hotel staff were leading people to the pool party with flashlights.

By Khun_mor on Monday, June 02, 2008 - 11:10 pm:  Edit

Phoenixguy

Lewis just posted on another site that he finally got the permits for the back up generators and they will be operative within 2 weeks. He had them already they just could not be put on line.

Also there will be a fully equipped gym in the hotel for use of guests at no charge. Will be open in about 2 weeks.

They offer free car transportation around Fields area same as ABC hotel. Can avoid trikes.

Formal grand opening now not until mid July so expect a few missing odds and ends until then.

Here's the text of his post on PIatNight

First, thanks everyone for trying out the hotel. I really appreciate your comments both good and bad. This gives me the info that i need to correct everything for the mid July grand opening date. Here is the update for everyone ....

1. Internet - I found out that the damn contractors did not put a wired internet connection in 6 of the deluxe rooms. They simply forgot and no one double checked??? So I had them push a internet wire through for those rooms and they are almost done. They couldn't pull the wire immediately because some of the deluxe rooms were occupied, so as those guests checked out we pulled the wire down to the router. The remaining 6 rooms will be completed as the last guests check out.

I ordered more bandwidth for the hotel. It started slowing down as more and more people were using the net. PLDT has been working on getting it right. It has gotten alot better and should be resolved this week.

We are having wireless internet problems in many rooms. (hard to get good signal through the walls). Therefore, we have the wired connection and we will currently make hotspots in the hotel. Mainly at the pool and al fresco area. If you really need wireless in the room, then my IT guy will install a wireless access point in your room depending upon availability because I will not purchase one for each room.

2. Rides - All rides to the fields area are free. This includes SM mall. Please ask for the FREE ride service and you will not have a problem. I had to currently rent a car service in which I pay a monthly fee. My staff and drivers now understands that it is a free ride to the fields area. The only time time some one would have to pay is if they request the driver to wait for them or if they went to a location away from fields ave. We use a van. We do not have limousines.

3. Pool - We have setted on the pool hours to be from 10am to 6am. Sorry early bird swimmers, the pool will be cleaned from 6am to 10am. It seemed many people love swimming when they get back from barhopping and many people love swimming starting around noon. The pool must be cleaned daily so no swimming between 6am to 10am. Noise is not a problem as when the balcony doors are shut, you cannot hear people in the pool.

The pool bar is almost completed. I got confirmation from the installer that it would be done before this saturday. I also am installing the sound system for the pool and alfresco bar area this week. 10 more pool lounge chairs are arriving today. The side tables for the lounge chairs arrive in 6 more days.

4. Gym - We are about finished installing the rubber matts for the gym. We are working out the supplier quotation for the equipment now. I plan to have the equipment here in mid june.

5. Power - We connected the main power for the hotel already. Now we will be bringing in the generators within the next two weeks. I had to wait until i got the city electric permit before brining in the generators. Brownout situation will be resolved shortly.

6. Breakfast - Everyone gets breakfast for two. The staff definitely tries their best to make it as perfect as possible for the guests. In the case it is cold, simply ask for another one and they will be happy to bring you up a new one.

7. Rooms - Some rooms on the 4th and 5th floors are missing furniture. The contractor is about finished and will bring the final missing peices this wed. At that time, we will open up the majority of the 4th and 5th floors for the guests. One presidential room is ready now and another will be ready by the end of june. I am doing these slowly because I want to make each one unique.

I hope this gives everyone a clearer picture to the progress of the hotel.

Thanks for the update, KM. I actually just got off the phone w/ the hotel confirming my upcoming reservations. The agent said that they were installing the generators "as we speak". I also asked when the grand opening was. She told me that although the hotel will be "fully functional" in a few weeks, the "grand opening" will be on 8/8/08. The ballroom won't be ready until around that time.

Well guys I arrived at Lewis Grand Hotel at 1:00AM. The front desk said I did not have a reservation. I said I must have because I have a e-mail confirming that I do. I showed the guy at the desk and he said well I don't see one here. He continued to look and then somehow found it. He asked for id, I gave him and he filled out the info for the reservation. while i was registering these 2 guys came in hand in hand all kissy face looking for a room, it almost floored me. That was the first time I have ever seen public affection between 2 guys ever. I was asked how I was paying for my room, I said credit card. The guy requested the card to run for my stay. I said you collect first and he said yes. I have never seen this either but I guess thats there policy. He ran my card for my 11 nites and I said do i need to sign the receipt and he said no. I have never seen that either. I thought you always needed to sign a receipt. I am going to look for Lewis today to find out if these are there policies. I had breakfast today in the restaurant, only problem I saw was all the food was cold, all in the metal pans, no Sterno to keep warm, I saw a post a while back with same comet. There is a holder for them but none in there. I have a corner deluxe room The room is nice, huge bed and very comfortable. Nice view of pool. They put the mini bar in a cabinet for looks I'm sure but wow is it hot in the cabinet when you open the door. The tub is deep and shower nice, water still takes a long time to get hot and actually never does get hot. I know the hotel is new but they have to do some improvements pretty fast I think. The INTERNET speed is great for ac that is. I did a speed test, 420 klb. For pi that blazing. LOL

By Fooledagain1 on Saturday, July 26, 2008 - 08:48 am:  Edit

The hotels policy of running a CC without signing upon checking-in is common place in PI.

When you check-out they will cancel that 1st CC run and bill you for your total charges.

It can be a bit confusing for a 1st time expeirence of this, it seems they are billing you twice but that's not the case coz they cancell the 1st CC run. shouldn't be a problem.

The first time this happened to me in Rio I thought the hotel was up to some "funny bussiness". But turns out that wasn't the case.

By Khun_mor on Saturday, July 26, 2008 - 02:35 pm:  Edit

Stayed there for almost 3 weeks . Agree the breakfast was dissapointing except the eggs were made fresh as you order. I have no idea why they do not keep the food warm. It is free so hard to complain though. I NEVER get up before noon anyway. Only ate it once on AM we travelled to Palawan. Barhopping til 4-5 AM precludes breakfast unless you eat before sleeping.

Had no problem with hot water . I was on 3rd floor - perhaps a problem on higher floors ??

As far as credit card info FA is correct. They run an authorization but do not submit a charge until final billing. They have done that in most hotels I have stayed in anywhere not just PI.

Just stayed there for 3 weeks as well. They have changed the breakfast setup. The breakfast food is now heated. I enjoyed my stay there, but they are going through the pains of a new hotel: inexperienced staff, facilities issues, etc.

Pros:

Very nice large rooms w/ great air conditioning
Decent food at reasonable prices
Free bfast (although KM is right that the selection is limited)
"Free" rides to SM and Fields (50P gratuity expected;) - cars not always available
Very nice pool and (two) jacuzzis
Large flat screen TV
Good sound insulation in rooms

Cons:

Still going through "growing pains"
Front Desk staff could be friendlier
Small in-room safes
Not a lot of chairs available by the pool
Laundry expensive by AC standards
Broadband a little slow (incompatibility w/ VOIP too)
No DVD players

Met the owner. Nice young guy from LA. Really trying to make a nice hotel in a pretty barren locale. Gym should be finished soon. I'd stay there again, although if I was a newbie, I'd probably prefer staying closer to the action.

By Fooledagain1 on Saturday, August 02, 2008 - 06:47 am:  Edit

"Free rides" for 50P tip, that's silly, considering one could take a trike for 50P at "your convience" and not wait around for "they're" vechicle to arrive.

I would consider that a con, not pro of staying in the hotel.

By Mongerx on Saturday, August 02, 2008 - 09:13 am:  Edit

How were you informed the drivers expected a 50 peso trip? When I stayed there I used the service a lot and never paid a tip nor was one suggested. In fact, the owner explained to me that he was in fact paying them on a contract basis something like a 100 pesos per trip. A charge Lewis Grand absorbed without passing on to the guests.

Hell even at 50 pesos, I would rather ride in a nice new SUV than patron an AC trike driver.

By Segue99 on Saturday, August 02, 2008 - 02:36 pm:  Edit

There's a sign at the front desk that informs you of the "free" service. It discloses the "customary" gratuity. When available, the SUV was VERY convenient. Since it was raining EVERY day, I was happy to pay 50P for the car, rather than using a trike.

If it wasn't raining and I wasn't in a rush, I just jumped into a jeepney. Coming back from Fields I did the same. Although I stopped after avoiding a band of jeepney thieves (a story for another day).

S99,

Thanks for the current info. Obviously what I posted is oout of date. Too bad as the service was awesome when I stayed there.

By Khun_mor on Wednesday, August 06, 2008 - 12:53 pm:  Edit

Most likley they do not pay the driver any salary and expect him to earn his living on tips. When I asked Lewis about tipping driver he said it not mandatory and was up to me but hinted that the driver kind of expected something. The sign is new.

I had no problem giving him 50 pesos to ride in an airco new SUV . Many of the trikes wanted 70 peso just to go out to Stargate or Shano's. I'll pay less for more any time.

I read one of your previous threads advertising special king room for $35.00/night that’s not advertised on the site either. Is that room still available?

By Khun_mor on Sunday, September 28, 2008 - 12:29 am:  Edit

Gigopro

No they do not offer the special king room rate anymore. Lewis decided to eliminate that room rate soon after opening but honored the rate for whoever booked it before it was taken down. That was months ago.

I have not seen pics of the poolside jacuzzi but have talked to guys staying there and they were more than happy with it. I saw a lot of Koreans walking back that way with their barfines so it is popular with that crowd as well.

E Mail the hotel for info on how it differs from other jacuzzi rooms if you are curious . They have always been very responsive in my experience.

It is a little too far to walk at night. It is close to day time action on Perimeter Road though...I have read that they offer free car service from the hotel to local destinations.

By Khun_mor on Thursday, November 20, 2008 - 11:21 pm:  Edit

Too far and too dangerous at night. The car service runs 24 hours a day and you can call to get picked up. Far better travelling in aircon car than cramped trike but they only have 2 cars and many times only one driver so you cannot rely on car always.

I've actually had Lewis or one of the other owners drive me to the bars if no driver is around. Now that's customer service !! Even better as I did not have to tip Lewis!

How fast can I get transport leaving the bars?
No taxi's? tuk-tuk style trucks like Pattaya?

Thx.
CN

By Khun_mor on Friday, November 21, 2008 - 07:49 pm:  Edit

No taxis no baht buses . You get around AC by trikes or jeepneys.

Trikes are everywhere and immediately available in fact you cannot avoid them . To get a jeepney from Field you have to walk down to jeepney terminal about a 2-5 min walk depending on what bar you are leaving .

Jeepney 8.5 peso from terminal -- just outside main Field area -- all the way to Friendship -- past all the perimeter bars. You have to know where you are going to ride a jeepney however as they will stop only if signalled.

Trike 50-100 peso depending on how far you go. Make sure you and driver agree on price before you get in.The trike drivers are getting more aggressive and demanding if you assume a price and they want more.

By Ceenotes on Friday, November 21, 2008 - 11:36 pm:  Edit

Your right - it's far. Looking at the interactive map, it's way out west. How long is Fields from Macarthur to which I guess turns into Perimeter. Just curious, how long is the walk?

Thx.

By Buick on Friday, November 21, 2008 - 11:59 pm:  Edit

i walked many times from the PB up to a mexican restaurant past the lewis grand. the walk wasn't that bad. i took a trike back a couple times and ended up getting out less than halfway back. just stuck in trike traffic sucking exhaust (this was after dinner so prime time). my suggestion would be walk to the bars and trike home.

By Khun_mor on Saturday, November 22, 2008 - 12:22 am:  Edit

Ceenotes
Field interects MacArthur so there is no answer to your question. The walk from the end of Field (MacArthur) to Lewis Grand - as Buick has said- is not at all bad and takes about 10 minutes. I have walked from Honeykos all the way to Field area i.e. Pacific Breeze which is much further.
Tne caveat is that I would NOT make the walk to LG at night now as crime in AC is a problem in isolated areas at night.

No need to trike back - call the hotel to send the car. You tip the driver 50 peso which is same as trike fare and waaaay more comfortable.

By Gurock1 on Saturday, November 22, 2008 - 04:55 am:  Edit

I'm a motorbike guy. I rent a scooter and everything is a five miniute ride. Scooter rent about 200 Pesos a day. You need a little courage not to be hit by trikes or Jeepneys, but due care handles it.

By Ceenotes on Saturday, November 22, 2008 - 12:17 pm:  Edit

KM,

I was trying to say from the intersection of Fields/MacArthur (as a starting point) to LG. From the map, it looks like it covers alot of ground.

So its about 3X in length as Walking St. on Pattaya.

By Khun_mor on Saturday, November 22, 2008 - 05:28 pm:  Edit

CN

Probably a bit further than that but still not an exhausting walk unless it's ungodly hot.

Gurock

No way I would trust myself driving anything less than an M1-A1 tank in AC after hitting a few bars. When I was there in October an American guy got himself seriously f**ked up as did the girl he had pulled from Honeykos trying to get back to hotel with both his and the scooters tanks full. They were taking up collections at HKs for the unfortunate girl.

Also have been several strong arm robberies where two pinoys on another bike force the poriner on a bike off the road and take what they want at knife or gun point.

By Gurock1 on Sunday, January 18, 2009 - 03:56 am:  Edit

I spent 12/27/08 to 1/10/09 at Lewis Grande and feel that I have to make my comments. First KM is right that Lewis is the nicest guy that ever lived. If you stay here and have problems, which I guaranty you will it's critical that you talk to Lewis, because he will do anything to make you as happy as he can. I've now covered the best part of Lewis Grande. As for the worst:

Lewis is too nice to his employees, and they know that they can do anything they want without repercussions from him. Starts when I check in. They tell me that I reserved a Poolside Jacuzzi, when I reserved an Executive Jacuzzi and want me to pay $50.00 a night extra. When I tell the clerk he's wrong he says that I'm lying. Then I fire up my laptop and show him the email, he says that I failed to give credit card in to confirm that reservation, then I show him the email with the adobe copy of my US driver's license and credit card they made me send and he says that doesn't matter. Luckily at the point of this, a half hour into the commotion Lewis showed up. He says he's sorry that his managing clerk is from the PI and dumb, but he'll help me. He has me sit for an hour talking and makes up a Presidential Suite for the night at no more charge than the Exec Jacuzzi. While very nice of him it screws up my night in wasted time and in the morning I have to transfer to the cheapest worst room in the hotel with no hot water or internet working. Plus waste the time and effort in another transfer. His clerks make me wait a half hour in line twice to be told the transfer isn't ready. At the point of no hot water, no internet for two days, I'm ready to leave and go anywhere else, Pacific Breeze was full, I'd checked, so Lewis puts me back into the Presidential Suite for a couple of days and promises me that there will only be one more cluster fuck transfer after that to a Pool side Jacuzzi and that my quoted price will be kept. Agin it comes back to Lewis (nicest guy in the world - he is)
At two points Lewis and I were having drinks and talking. I was trying to explain to him that his clerks shouldn't make his guests wait a half hour in line to be told that they have to wait a half hour in line again to accommodate a request of the hotel, transfering your room for their convenience. Lewis says to me what would you do and I said that I'd tell the clerk that if it happened again they'd be fired. Lewis says that if I do that I'd have to be an asshole to my employee. I say Lewis if you don't you become an asshole to your guest. You're running a business the employees aren't your party buddies, and they don''t pay your bills, you pay their salary. Another example of his problems are that the maids for the rooms are all male, big mistake, and you don't get the same one on any day. Every day I have to fight a battle to get my room cleaned. finally one day they just refuse to clean my room. When I complain, because I had to bring new girls back at night to yesterday's dirty room, the clerks lie to Lewis and tell him that I never put the sign out. Not only did I put the sign out, but I went to the desk and told them to get the room cleaned and sent one of my girls to tell them in Tagalog. Then Lewis' manager writes me a letter saying that if I don't ask to have my room cleaned it won't be cleaned. So I bring the letter to Lewis and ask him why I got this after all of that. Lewis goes well it's AC and employees don't do good jobs. I go Lewis it's AC and you're too nice for the job you're doing. If you don't want to fire people hire a guy that does your firing, so the employees know that they will be fired if they lie, cheat and don't do their jobs. Other things, KM says that the hotel will give you a ride to town. Well only if you tell them that it's part of what they are supposed to do and then they tell you that you should take a trike to get back. I have the motorbike, so it's no biggie for me, but some of the other guests are pissed. Not one day goes by that I don't see angry people checking out for other hotels. The food was expensive and lots of it was awful by AC standards. My old favorite girl, Madalyn, wouldn't eat there, she said that pigs got better food in probince. I had to send back hamburgers for bad meat and smells. the same thing, the employees figure that they can throw anything together and Lewis won't stop them, so if they let the meat go bad instead of telling Lewis they made a mistake they serve it and tell Lewis the customer is crazy. Lewis spared no expense in trying to build the place as beautiful as possible, he wants to have the greatest place for a monger to party and be part of the party, but he doesn't understand that a complex like that can't be run by a guy who is having the party while he's trying to run it.

Making a long story short, my trip was to go on in AC to 1/22/09. due to a change of plans I left AC on 1/10/09 and flew back to LOS to hang with great mongers in Pattaya. I ended up spending one of the best weeks that I ever had in Pattaya and came back to AC yesterday. I knew that I didn't want to go back to Lewis Grande. So I checked alternatives and found a brand new hotel called Savannah Suites. They agreed to store my prepaid motorbike and some belongings while I went to LOS, pick me up for free at CRK, they gladly give free rides to and from town. The first thing they said is we don't want you to walk, please let us drive you any time and call any time for a ride. My room is just as beautiful as Lewis Grande room. I have a Savannah Suite. It has an in room Jacuzzi twice as big as the one in Lewis Grande Pool Side Jacuzzi Room. Same LCD TV and cable. A US feather top king bed with four feather pillows and feather quilt. Leather chairs furniture. Coffee in room for free. The living room is slightly smaller than LG Poolside Jacuzzi, but the bathroom, shower Jacuzzi area is massively huge. They charge me 3,800 Pesos and give me 10% off that for longer than seven day stay, when I told them that Lewis give 10% for longer than seven day stay. The restaurant here has better food prettier serving girls in the day. One female maid, who gladly cleaned up an incredible mess from last night's Roman Orgy, including the left over's from where one of my girls got sick. Pool is much smaller than Lewis Grande, but that also allows it get warmer, which in this cold snap is good. The other down sides are that it gets more local family guests and Korean mongers. On the other hand the employees appreciate a fat middle age tip throwing US monger like me all the more for that. Also it's about one Kilometer further down the road than Lewis Grande.

It was awful good when the car was there right after my plane landed, the room was ready, cute little desk girl had me in room, setting up and getting ready so that I could have dinner and not end up on Fields in the middle of the night.

I'm really sorry to be saying bad things about the Lewis Grande, because I like Lewis that much. On the other hand it's a mongering trip and I go there for comforts, pussy, and to just have the best time possible. I'm a different monger than some of the people on this board. I don't go to Asia for two weeks a year. I go for twenty two weeks a year. With that much time here and at my age, I can't just go and drink, screw, eat, screw, drink, screw and so forth. If I do that I'd get sick and die, plus week after week and you get times when the dick get's sore or the flu funk hits. So to me the services, comforts for the off hours, the quality of everything matters more. I'm willing to pay for some things different than some of the other guys. Keep that in mind, when you read this.

This was why I had a great time in my week off of AC in Pattaya. A master showed me the fine art of picking massage girls and the quality of being massaged with my MP3 on for an hour or two in down times. Some truly beautiful Thai countryside I'd never seen. Helped me find the best Sandals I've ever owned. All those little pleasures add up. BTW in Pattaya I was surely not womanless either. Part of my current problem is recovering from sore dick from tit fucking this blonde with the biggest natural tits I'd ever had on a Thai girls. To protect herself more from, too many adventures of BBFS she would go on and on with tits and mouth and it was so good that I disregarded the side effects of sore dick later.

Anyway my two cents on Lewis Grande and many other things.

Also don't write off Lewis Grande. I think Lewis will learn and run the place better. It's kind of like when those of us were early mongers and girls got away with lots of stuff, as time progressed we learned and improved our mongering. Lewis is at heart the nicest guy you could imagine and he will harden in the ways he needs to it's just a question of when. I hope soon and I hope that he does get rich there! I just don't want to deal with the learning curve for him further with my trip.

Was at Lewis Grand from 2008/12/30 to 2009/01/03.
Was a fucked up place. Pig with lipstick.
Nice building but thats it. Service sucks completely. I talked to Gurock and what he is listing is all true. Read my AC trip report for details.
Avoid this place.

Zen, I know that your services were a lot worse than mine. It was a little because I'm more vocal, Lewis would have worked to try to make it better if he knew how unhappy you were. You had that same fifth floor room with bad to no hot water that I had. I just won't tolerate that hot water thing. I'd have either moved or as I did, told Lewis fix my situation or I'm gone. Also without a motorbike and the way that they treated you with the car services would have sucked more. I wouldn't have tolerated it and if you were more vocal Lewis would have done something more for you with the cars.

When you call it a pig with lipstick you hit it on the head. It has the lipstick or physical plant, it needs services that work. If you'd had good hot water, food, pleasant reliable services you wouldn't have felt the way you did. Lewis could fix those things, it's just a question of if and or when. I guess I would only consider it if I was assured that the problems had been fixed. Now that I'm in Savannah Suites, I'm very happy. All the services that Lewis should give are seamlessly available. The Jacuzzi in my room is twice the size of the one you had with good fifth floor hot water to use it. the food restaurant and pool are at least as good as Pacific Breeze and the drivers of the cars grab you at the door telling you that they want to take you and will get you in five mins after text message for pick up. Everything that Lewis Grand promised, I get here, and my room is 3,420 Pesos a night - equivalent to the LG Pool Side Jacuzzi room, in quality of room in every way. Had we known before we tried LG we would have done things different.

BTW I will get to sending you a PM about emails when I get back so we can exchange pictures, but I don't go home until into February. Looks like I'll watch the Superbowl in Asia this year. I'm not complaining, I just watched Arizona beat out Eagles with my Champaign girl asleep in bed and have pool plans with her and friends today. Life is good, just need to get through little over activity sore problems to be 100% again should't complain. Also did get to take a whole model series with my Nikon of the big titted Thai girl naked. She made me promise no internet, it leaves me a little on the fence as to posting them on Hombre (Hombre would also go nuts with boxes). I will send them to you for sure and want your critic, you are an ace. I guess that I'll also give them to others that I trust if they want them and ask, but I'd hate to be outed. I might see her again in Pattaya and would hate to have her and all the girls of her bar after me over it. You do wonder who to trust anymore I guess. I hope to talk today's girl into good pics, I think that she's hot for PI girl. She looks like my better girl form that one party night.

Anyway, time for you to start planning the next trip!!!!!!!

Wow ! Sounds like Lewis Grand has gone downhill fast since October. I had only one problem at the hotel last trip . They forgot my airport pick up. No biggie. I hopped in a taxi and got there at the same time I would have been there. Lewis paid for the cab, gave me a free night's stay in the Pres suite - my room anyway -and cancelled charges on a round trip car to NAIA for my El Nido trip and again for my flight home - another round trip since my GF went with me. I made out very well financially there.
Lewis also fired the desk clerk on the spot when he found out about it . He canned 3 more while I was there and the staff were all terrified . Seems he has given up the fight. He needs to find out from Roselle at PB how to train a staff.
The girls there are scared to death of her.

As for teh car as soon as I hit the lobby either Rain the door girl or one of the desk clerks would ask right away if I wanted the car brought around. Three of the drivers gave me their cell numbers and told me to call anytime when they were on duty for pick up at any bar.

Vastly different experiences. I'm there again in three weeks . Let's see what happens. Maybe because everyone there knows me so well and knows I barhop with Lewis all the time things go smoother for me -- Who knows??

G1, does the Savannah Suites offer free rides to & from Fields? I will search for their website now. Is it closer to the Perimeter Bars? Thanks again for that info. I also need reliable internet access, do they offer that at the Savannah Suites?
I guess it would be too much to ask the name of your Blond big-titted Thai girl and which bar she worked at? hee hee

KM

There are several factors. One I arrived during the Christmas rush and you are always at a more off time. Two, you rent the Presidential Suite, and are more unforgettable as a guy and in your use of money. Three, the more that the staff thinks you're special to Lewis the less likely that the screws happen to you. Zen got screwed over much more than I did. I notice a big difference in AC right now generally compared with the 12/27 to 1/10 time. You're also right the employees are terrified of Roselle and she rarely has to fire one these days. At Pacific Breeze it's not just you. Every service girl, maid, doorman, know me by first name and most other guests the same way.

BTW I understand your desire of the Presidential Suite, at LG it sure is an impressive room. The problem for me in part is that none of the other rooms are that impressive and are more expensive than other in class rooms. Like you might not know that the Jacuzzi is much smaller in the Poolside Jacuzzi room, where Lewis is still charging $150.00 US a night, than in his Presidential Suite and that the Jacuzzi in my Savannah Suite at 3,850 Pesos and then 10% off to compete with Lewis' discount is bigger than in your LG Presidential Suite. If you're willing to pay the price that you've probably negotiated for the Presidential Suite, it is Probably the nicest hotel room in it's layout and furnishing in AC except maybe the equivalent ABC Suite and certainly more impressive than the Admiral Suite at Pacific Breeze. By the way the Presidential Suite at Savannah Suites doesn't compare to Presidential Suite at Lewis Grande. It's somewhat smaller and a little less luxurious at Savannah, Although Lewis has some of the best beds I've ever had, Savannah has a bed that is like LG except not quite so oversized and has this total pillow top system that I've never seen before. Like the showers at Savanna have the rain mechanics that LG has, but then they also put in a whole set of devices to allow you to choose every other form of water delivery by changing valves. Everything has trade offs. Lweis Grande has the most beautiful looking pool I've seen in AC. When I used it and look at the temperatures that AC has been having (unseasonably cold) the water never gets warm. Also the ned near the pool side rooms is the deep end and you have to swim a long way to get to shallow. I don't go to the pool to improve my swimming. I go to hang out with the girls I bring and molest. This layout doesn't lend it self for that as well as the Pacific Breeze pool, or the even little Savannah pool. If the water isn't cold, the deep end isn't scarry for those of your girls that are bad swimmers I think that you get better millage.

One more BTW I think that Lewis would negotiate a little with you about rates, you probably know better than me and also that Lewis lives in the Presidential Suite on the second floor, but has another place to live as well I think.

Everytime I think I'm done with one more BTW another thought occurs to me. You know Lewis is such a nice guy that when he saw how disturbed I was he offered to just wipe out my entire hotel bill and comp my stay. I didn't agree to let him do that. It's not that I'm fool with money, it's that I didn't think he deserved to be burnt out of his money over what my problems were and I told him that concessions for the fuck ups and reassurances that he'd fixed his management and maybe I'd be back. Also even if I liked someone else's hotel for a later stay, that I liked him as a friend and didn't think that I wanted to screw a friend out of his money.

Again KM you sure are right when you say that Lewis is the nicest business man in AC.

Topfotog. Just ask them in your reservation, but I'm sure that they will go both ways. The easiest arrangement is to use tex message as to pick up going directly to the doorman driver. A few tips is always in order for good service, the amount of which is a little in your judgment. Do remember that if you come here the staff will always know you're a monger, and be OK with it, but that it won't be like PB or LG where almost every guest is a monger. That has good sides and bad. Last night at the bar, while I was eating some middle age PI lady was bitching at the waitress that the service was better for her at Clark Holiday Inn. For no good reason I talked to the lady and had a nice conversation about why AC isn't the best vacation place for her children and about places like Boracay, if she could overcome the fear of flying. The lady said that mongers like me didn't bother her, but that she wanted a good pool and service. At the ned, when she left I gave the waitress 50 Pesos extra on the tip figuring I was buying a little good will for something later and she was cute.

Remember that you are going to be more isolated even with car service than Pacific Breeze or Wild Orchid. At the same time you aren't any more isolated than at Lewis Grand and in fact because the services and prices are so much better you're better off.

As to the Thai girl send me a PM. I'd love to email you a couple of my Nikon pictures in a more full size and let you tell me what I did wrong, as I'm a Nikon novice. I'd also tell you where I found her as long as you promise my name stays out of anything you might do and remember that girls move, so that depending on when you get there she might not be there. the particular girl was born in Pattaya, according to her. A little rare, but not unheard of. I also do have a cell number for her as she was a multiple days girl. But as a monger and not a guy desirous of long term gf with her my only request is that you try to not introduce any new STD in case I later come back for future rounds.

Topfotog:

I forgot to answer one of your questions. Savannah Suite offers wife in the rooms and not hard wired. It's the best wife that I've had in Thailand or PI room. It moves faxt and gives me a very strong signal in my 5th floor Savannah suite. I can't speak for the rest of the hotel. I can tell you that the hard wired internet was down almost half the time at LG and that was with Lewis knowing that my internet is a work priority and telling me that he was giving priority to keeping it on in my room. At Pacific Breeze the internet is hard wired and works about eight percent of the time. Remember that you are in AC and that no structural services are going to be like the USA. They have brownouts of every utility service for onething.

By Segue99 on Sunday, January 18, 2009 - 11:58 pm:  Edit

I've stayed at the LG 3 separate times since it opened. Most recently, I spent nearly 3 weeks there over xmas I've also stayed at HRA, WO, and PB, so I've got some experience w/ most of the better AC hotels.

Without question, the LG has some problems, most notably inconsistency in its service. The management is very aware of the problems and working really hard at trying to fix them. On many a morning during breakfast, I would overhear management meetings and meetings between managers and staff. I can honestly say that they are sincere in their efforts, but they keep running into the brick wall that is the Pinoy mentality.

Very few of their employees are assertive enough to want to assume the responsibility of identifying and solving problems. On New Years Day, I believe that only one or two of the housekeeping staff showed up (sick father, sick mother, sick water buffalo, etc.). When I asked one of the managers what he was going to do, he told me that a bunch of them would be jobless when they returned from work.

Despite issues with front desk, housekeeping, etc., I still like the LG the best. Nicest and biggest rooms and nice pool. The airconditioning and room insulation (temperature and noise) is WAY better than anywhere else I've stayed.

Food is mediocre there, but they just hired a new chef and are trying to make things better. Internet was down a quite a big during the beginning of Jan., but this IS the PI. When the broadband provider is down, not much can be done about it.

If I wanted to be close to the action, I'd probably prefer to stay at the Pacific Breeze, but I like being out of the zone. Savannah is brand new, but I found that although the price is the same as LG, the rooms were smaller and not as nice. To be fair, I just visited, didn't stay there.

Despite the problems (the front desk people really are kind of weak), I wouldn't give up on the LG yet. Bunch of dedicated owner/managers that are still trying to figure out how the PI works even though most of them are all or part Pinoy thereselves. I was impressed by their commitment to improvement and providing a quality place to stay.

'Again I do think that Lewis is the nicest guy and would like to make his hotel the best in the AC area. I just think that he is still a long way in the learning curve.

As to Savannah, you're not right about some of what you say. You have to compare apples to apples. My Savannah Suite is their nicest suite short of their Pres. Suite. it's the equivalent of Lewis' Poolside Jacuzzi. Lewis wants 6,500 per night for that room and will give a ten percent discount with longer than one week stay or other ways. Savannah wants 3.800 and will match the ten percent discount coming to 3,320 per night. Not the same in pricing. Even Lewis Executive Jacuzzi is 4,500 and ten percent discount making 4,100. Savannah's equivalent is 3,300 and than ten percent making it 3,000. the Savannah equivalent rooms are maybe a smidge smaller if at all, mostly laid out different, and again not comparing Presidential Suites. Savannah rooms have much nicer Jacuzzi, showers, but have hard wood instead of carpet and are equally quiet. Savannah has gotten through their learning curve almost immediately as they deal with more Korean and local customers, who won't tolerate bad service for a second. For the first time today my internet went out. I dialed the desk and in thirty seconds it was on and in five minutes their IT guy was at my door to make sure I was happy. Savannah's service is equal to Pacific Breeze if not better. Lewis himself would admit that he hasn't been able to accomplish that.

Every time you change hotels you get something and give something. One of the get/gives is that Savannah has the nicest hotel towels I've ever seen in Asia. They are twice as big and thick as the ones at Lewis Grand. On the other hand they give you two and it's harder to shnagle extras without charge. After the first day I discovered that leaving my maid 100 pesos a day instead of my customary 50 will bank my regular four towels and now I have dream towels and four of them.

The argument that this is the PI and live with that doesn't fly as much as you're trying to make it. It's the same PI at Pacific Breeze or Savannah that it is at Lewis Grande. The employee attitudes, food quality, food prices, are better at both of the others. I've got to make the choice that works best for my experience. There is a world famous monger (Epi) that always says "It's my vacation". Well it's my vacation and my Savannah Suite at 3,380 is far preferable to me than my Lewis Grande Suite that was 4,150 after discount and a special Lewis upgrade from Exec to Poolside. For one more reason, that I weight 275 and am 6 foot tall. Lewis' Jacuzzi was just too small in the Poolside Suite. My Savannah Jacuzzi is a wet dream. If I'm paying extra for the Jacuzzi it needs to be usable. For another I can look forward to dinner at the hotel with sweet little PI ladies dotting on me and reasonable food at my hotel. For a third, why should I have a male maid, a different one each day and have to fight a daily battle to get my room made up. I have a Nikon D200 with lights, lenses and tripod along with a laptop and portable DVD. No way can all that be locked in my safe. I think that the theft risk is bigger with a male maid. I don't want a male maid to walk in while I'm doing my girls, but if it had to happen the female maid would be a lot easier to tolerate. Again I think that lewis is a great guy, but where in the world would he get the idea of hiring male maids. Same in the restaurant, male waiters. What a bonehead idea. Look at Pacific Breeze and know that you enjoy having those beautiful sweet waitress serve you. At Savannah the waitresses wear hot pants and look like the ones at Pacific Breeze, saying hi Gurock in their little cute voices every time I walk by or go in.
Do what makes you happy. "It's your vacation"

Gurock said it all but i will resume with a TO-DO List for Lewis Grand:
1-Clearly inform new guests that a car is available for customers.
2-Clean the room even if the guest did not put the stupid sign on the door.
3-Make the Internet available all time.
4-Make food good.
5-Provide Hot water at the 5th floor with now wait.
6-Ladies at the Bar
7-Ladies at the housekeeping
8-Respect reservations

I got some shot for you too Gurock ! can't wait to see yours. The 12 MP Full quality versions are better than the 800*600 in here !!

As to point #2 they said it is to respect the privacy of the guest as they have no way of knowing if you are in the room or not. They simply will not clean or enter the room unless the make up room sign is out. They really should tell you that -- I agree. I went to Boracay for 4 days in July and when I came back the room was just as we left it because I did not put out the sign when we left. That is taking a rule to an extreme. However they had 4 housekeepers there in 20 seconds when I told Rain (who insists on carrying suitcases up to the room) I was upset. Took them less than 5 minutes to clean up the room. BTW my tip was still on the pillow of the unmade bed so I guess they are honest at least.

On the 5th floor I learned to turn on the hot water in the shower when I was brushing my teeth or shaving. Had plenty of hot water in 2-3 minutes usually.

Again will wait and see what happens in February. I will be on the fourth floor this time.

By Zenrico on Monday, January 19, 2009 - 03:43 pm:  Edit

Pacific Breeze do the rooms even if no signs.
If you want to go because they are friends and you know they will give you special treatment, fine. You pay, you decide.
I have other things to do on a VACATION then complain to a ladyboy at front desk.

I am not trying to defend the hotel in any way or suggest that only you were treated badly there. I have zero interest in whether anyone stays there or not, in fact it's better if it stays a bit empty. Just relating my experience there. You had a horrible stay and if I was you I wouldn't go back there either. I have stayed there four times - the first two not as a friend of Lewis - and none of my stays were anywhere near as bad as what you relate. The true story of the hotel lies somewhere in between your experience and mine I'm sure.

By Segue99 on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 - 01:23 am:  Edit

I am not a personal friend of any of the owners, managers or employees of the LG. If have no axe to grind. I've enjoyed my stays in the LG, despite the hiccups.

Although I DO get annoyed when it happens, I've just come to expect that "shit happens" in the PI. I have also enjoyed my stays at the PB and HRA, and I have stayed at each more than 40 nights. There too, I have encountered issues at times. HRA charges if you ask for extra towels, and one PB maid once told me that their policy was that they would clean the rooms only once per day (front desk confirmed that policy). I've also experienced leaky ceilings and floors, respectively. I remember being pretty pissed at the time, but I got over it. Would stay at both hotels again. I just prefer the LG.

Savanah does seem promising, but the rooms I saw, which were of the Junior Suite level, they were priced the same as the LG grand deluxe rooms, but IMO not as nice and smaller. I've never seen the jacuzzi rooms of either hotel. I'll defer to you there.

I've stayed in hotels all through Asia, and with the possible exception of China, PI has the worst level of service with respect to hotels regardless of cost. I guess I have just gotten used to muttering and shaking my head.

I am not knocking your choice of hotels, and I am not belittling the problems you experienced. Moral of the story: Different strokes....

By Gurock1 on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 - 03:36 am:  Edit

I couldn't agree more different stroke. Also, If I was KM, I's keep doing right what I was doing, because he's getting everything he wants and the way he wants it.

I sure learned my lesson about AC and hotels in the last twenty four hours. Sometimes with my long trips I get stuck having to do my work for the US late at night. Last night was one of those nights. I tend to wake for a few minutes about 4 or 5 AM if I'm not crazy drunk and on weekdays, look at my email and listen to phone messages. So last night I woke about four and there was a very angry email from my best client involving a variety of work that I need to help complete. He was accusing me of only caring about my Asian life and very angry. It was kind of dumb on his part, because he has my Magicjack number and could have called me. So I figured the best thing was to call right away and did. After ten minutes of chilling him, going through things he sent me and talking we were starting to make progress and my internet went down, stopping the call and I’m sure irritating my client all over again. So, I called the desk and told the girl to try the reset and she wouldn't help me. I asked her if her internet was working in the lobby and she didn’t want to check. So finally I just unplugged, unlocked my laptop and went to the lobby with laptop and phone. Sure enough it worked there at the restaurant. So I ordered a coffee and set up the continuation of my call. It took me an hour and a half to finnish all the work needed and have everyone happy in the US.

So, after all that intensity, I couldn’t sleep and I figured I'd order breakfast then try to go back to sleep. I did and then I'd order breakfast for the sleepy cute restaurant girls, desk clerk and guard. Figuring good will and cute little girls
.
Making a long story short they were very grateful, but the cook sent me the wrong breakfast twice (I think he was mad that I didn't order for him). When Everything was done I asked the restaurant girls to put my laptop behind the counter and took a fast run on the motorbike to JJ's to buy stuff for the room. thinking no traffic at 6:30 AM and why not get it done before sleep. I come back from JJ's and the elevator is broken, with my twenty pounds of supplies and laptop in the lobby. None of the employee's are willing to do anything and I don't feel like chugging up 150 stairs with all the stuff. I'm pretty mad and they don't care at all. As much as I'm pretty mad for what it's worth, they agreed after an hour to just give me the keys to the identical room (empty on 2nd floor) I went there with all my stuff and went to sleep for a few hours. When I woke up they just agreed to let me move the rest of my stuff to the second floor room, which will solve my future elevator problems if (when) it breaks again. It's just that in AC you can't count on any kind of rational thinking, or infrastructure services to work.

For those of you who come on a total bang all you can for a week once or twice a year, with no worries as to anything but how many can you bang and avoiding STDs fine, but that's not me. I have lot's of trip time and more so have to handle things to earn the time, and can’t just think only of how many can I bang with every single moment, or the good times will stop rolling for me.

Anyway one more silly comment, Every room that Savannah calls "Suite" has a Jacuzzi" keep that mind with pricing.

By Goodlife on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 - 11:29 am:  Edit

I had a good time on my 3 visits to LG, maybe its just Karma for some. The only problem i had was with the Shower water that kept leaking on to the floor on my first two visits.

This last visit in Nov/Dec look like they took care of the problem by angeling the tile so the extra water flowed back into the tub.

I always used the sign to get my room clean but then again, i did meet the maids and gave them some soda pops that i bot from the store, for that little gesture they put extra towels in my room for the bathroom floor (i thought that was a good gesture).

I had a standard room on the 2nd floor.. So i was not the big spender in the hotel.

Food - Yes.. needs an upgrade in quality or downgrade in price.

Pool - many times i had it all to myself and girls.. not bad.

Staff - they have a pretty good looking door girls and waitresses. Most important they were all nice.

In my summation its a good place to stay, I look forward to being there again for a few days in March.

I have had bad service in PB, and will not be back there... so i guess its just depends on a mongers karma or Chi??? (i like chi-chis)

Just got back fron AC 3 days ago.
I spent a lot of time at The Lewis Grand Hotel because a couple of mates of mine were staying there.
My friends were very pleased with the hotel.
The rooms are very nice and the pool area is beautiful.
Definately a good choice for your hotel stay.

So here are some first impressions of the Lewis Grand hotel.

Nitpicks: My "rain" shower head looks kind of nasty with some mold and calcium buildup. My sink drains very slowly. The Internet yesterday was extremely slow. Good news is that the Internet picked up today and I was able to make a Skype call that the person on the other end said sounded like I was making the call from down the street.

But the best part so far is the free shuttle service to SM and Field and Perimeter. Very nice and I am making extensive use of this free service.

Anyone want to invest in Lewis's new project? He bought the unfinished Lexus Hotel and is now resuming construction. He is looking for partners --i.e. cash inflow. He hit me up a few trips ago but despite his good track record - no way am I investing in AC property.
Here is website for those of you who want to be a hotel owner !!!

Those at the top of the pyramid always crow about their "good track record", now don't they?

PT Barnum alert for ANYONE considering investing in ANYTHING in AC. How ANYBODY is claiming they make ANY money there from the handful of customers in town at any given time, I'll never buy it.

I had to chuckle at the illustrations showing the property situated on a wide, paved, tree-lined street. It's Santos! Blow Row! Think dirt, little BJ bars, trikes, and ugly AC trannies.

While you're investing in AC property, you might also want to buy a bar there to maximize your losses.

12 Floor !! Shit good luck to have HOT water up there !!!
The good thing is you might have a view to check if the fucking lineup at the SM Mall ATM is huge.

From a business standpoint:

The "skim the cream" target market had been diluted already. There are way too many new businesses attempting to capture the market of the high-roller.

I would take the risk investment capital and start a Panda Express restaurant instead.

Another "tallest building, luxury accommodations" residential / commercial hotel condo real estate investment is not in demand.

I am being tongue in cheek here - but besides a Panda Express, here's more business ideas that mught fly in AC.

2) Personal Body Guards (not necessarily armed - just personnel to slap the beggars, open doors, hail trikes, run errands, etc.)

3) Online Ordering of Barfines. (Some times you don't want to go out and get hassled - how about an online picture, video, chat - then hail her to your room via your personal body guard - all for a small fee).

Anyone want to PayPal me $75,000 USD so we can get started today!? You would get instant cash flow!

Pimps are great for providing chicks for a hour or night of fun. However, AC is very strange in how many people turn to their pimps for

1) An avenue to invest their money, and

2) As a way to make charitable donations to a community.

Sorry, I like AC for whoring and holiday, but I am not trusting a sole there with my investment funds. And I am always bewildered by all the guys who will donate money at some charity events put on bar owners in AC. Does anyone really believe guys living on the edge in so many ways are really going to be the pillar of integrity one needs to carry out the charitable intentions of a group?

Lewis Grand Hotel is mentioned in 2014/01 Bwana_dik - Random Musings on a Week in AC

quote:

I stayed at the Lewis Grand Hotel, in one of their better rooms with a pool view. It was a corner room with two good sized balconies, lots of room inside, and good amenities. The bed was huge and very comfortable (in contrast to the broken-down mattresses at the Pacific Breeze), and there was a sofa, a table with four chairs, a decent Samsung flatscreen, and a minibar with room for my own supplies. The AC worked well and the controls seemed to actually function as intended (as compared to the Pacific Breeze, where I could never get the AC adjusted right). The room was very light, given its corner location, and had good lighting within the room that was easy to control from bed. The bathroom was spacious as well, and had a separate tub (with hand shower) and shower with rainfall shower. I always had plenty of hot water, which is a major complaint I had with the Pacific Breeze. Hotel staff were friendly, courteous, efficient, and treated my girl with respect. My only complaint was with the quality of the wi-fi, but this is a problem nearly everywhere in the Philippines, and my connection here was a vast improvement over what I was used to at the Pacific Breeze. I was able to make Skype and FaceTime video calls with minimal problems.

The pool at the Lewis Grand is one of the nicer pools in AC, with lots of space for relaxing on comfortable chaise lounges. The pool has two jacuzzis and enough space to throw a party. I had a group of friends over one afternoon and we were served drinks in the pool by the hotel staff.
