The PornPing Hotel in Chiang Mai is great hotel at very reasonable prices. The roof top pool is very quiet and refreshing. The Disco is hopping on weekend nights. The Karoke bar has about 20 attractive young ladies dressed in long dresses to choose from to keep you company. They will warm you up in a dark booth and willingly go to your room for 2 hours for 1,800 baht. Rabbit was great and the second night she kept calling me to come get her. I was exhausted so I slept for while and went down just before closing. I thought she was gone so picked another lady. As we were leaving she returned and looked so disapointed that I asked her to come up to the room to. Both were ready to party and when we added a little beer we really got into it. What a night! I hope their there when I go back in 2003.

Anybody know if PPT has a web site? Google turned up nothing.

I don't remember whether it has a website. You should know though you would almost certainly get better rates going through a travel agent in Thailand after you arrive, rather than booking directly (at least that was my experience). Assuming you are not going to Chiang Mai during a holiday week of some sort, you shouldn't have a problem booking.
I should add I found the rooms there rather "weak" and at least a couple of years ago, as far as I could tell the rooms all had two twin beds rather than any doubles. The location is pretty good though.
While the mongering opportunities are not as extensive as in BKK or Pataya, particularly if you focus on go-go's rather than soapies, the city and surrounding area is great. All sorts of Wats with different ethnic origins, and very beautiful country. Have fun.

These prices actually don't look too bad, and it is possible they were as good as those offered by travel agents in Thailand; I just don't remember for sure. Of course, that was two years ago.

Thanks Laguy. My only problem is it seems a twin room is TWO separate beds. Not good. Since it will be me and my "friend" I'll need a room with one big bed without paying the quoted 130USD per the website. I'll have to look into that.

My best recollection is they only had twin rooms with separate beds two years ago, not that uncommon in Asia but not what any of us want. Having not checked their website recently, are you saying they are now asking for 130USD for a room with a double bed? If so, that is ridiculous (it is more like a $25 to $30 a night hotel).

From their site it seems to get a big bed one has to upgrade to the next level and those run 130USD. I will investigate.

Stayed here Oct 2006. Decent place, room was around 1200Baht a night but included breakfast buffett. It is an older hotel and could use a bit of updating but I had no major complaints. No internet access, but internet cafe right outside the entrance. Room did not have safety deposit box.
Had a nice view overlooking the food court and night market.

Javaj: Thanks for the update. I stayed at the Porn Ping a few years ago and found it adequate but nothing to write home about. The no internet access at this point would be a deal killer for me.

Anyone know of reasonable hotels in Chiang Mai they can recommend that have broadband in the rooms?

Here at the Porn Ping again. Deluxe twin in tower at 1299B and includes 2 coupons for breakfast. WLAN wireless service has been included in lobby bar area and you can buy min at the cashier. Nothing fancy here but location to night bazzar and walking distance to beer bars is great! The Blue Bat bar and grill on roof (20 floor?) has a great view of surounding area.

I stayed there in March, No compaints. Well siduated, ok breakfast used Mr Black from the kiosk in the parking lot as a guide, he was funny as hell, made for an enjoyable tour. Would ptobably stay there again, a case of "rather the devil you know".
