Located on Khoa Sahn Road. I was here with GF and was shocked at how many freelancers were working and how hot they were. Most of the backpackers have little money but most of them are younger and better looking dudes. I think these girls go here on an off night to make an extra 500 baht. An old univ. classmate of gf told her that she usually makes 500 baht LT. This girl was young and hot and maybe clueless of the actual prices she could ask for. The place had about 3 to 1 girls to guys. Some of these girls might be here just to meet younger falang that they see at the movies and might give it up for free. I thought that the quality of girls here rivaled any freelancer place in BKK...including Angel's. I was there on a Thursday night and the place was packed wall to wall.

Is this a disco or is this a coffee-shop like Thermae?
Whats the best mode of transportation to visit this place: cab or skytrain? (assuming I am staying near Nana Plaza).

Take a cab. It is a freelancer bar/restaurant. It looks like your typical upscale neighborhood bar but there is a DJ and the music selction is excellent. This place is a hidden jewel because the girls go their to pick up on young backpackers..those guys are much younger but have very little money and the chicas have decided to trade better looks for less money. Not unheard of to find a hottie for 500 baht short time. The only place left in BKK that can truly make that claim is here. They are opening up another one off of Sukhumvit and it will be the number one freelancer place once open.

The same owner just opened his branch of the same restaurant on soi 5 Sukhummvit-- this month I believe. Hopefully it will also attract just as many freelancers, but with the proximity to Nana It will probably be a different mix of girls. Be worthwhile to check out though and I plan on it in April. If no one goes first I'll let you know. The one on Kao Sahn road has long been famous as a freelancer paradise.

One way to get to Khoasan Road from Nana Plaza is to take the Skytrain and then the river bus. I have done this to get to Wat Arun and the Grand Palace. It's a nice way to see Bangkok as well.

Here are the directions as best I can describe it:

1) Take skytrain from Nana to Siam Station. From Siam, take the Saphan Taksin line to the end. You'll be at the Chao Phraya River.

2) Get on the water bus (5 or 10 baht) at the jetty adjacent to the Oriental Hotel and take it to the Tha Phra Athit jetty, it is just after the Phra Pinkloa Bridge, get off there.

3) do yourself a favor and get a decent map. I bought a Bangkok by Night Map and it has everything I just mentioned on it. Many hotels sell these maps and I am certain Asia Books has them.

I have never been to Khaosan Rd. or Gulliver's Travels but I will go next trip to check it out. I arrive April 1st.

Khaosan road is THE place to be in BKK for Songkran. It is literally packed with mostly young Thais, but some farang as well. If ur going there during Songkran the only way is by boat. A taxi will never get you even close in under 2-3 hours likely.

Being that I have never been to Khaosan Rd, I am not sure my directions to Khaosan Rd are correct. hahahaha!

Can anyone verify that I have the right road for Gulliver's Travels? My maps shows the road to be close to the river where all the backpacker lodgings are.

I know you can reach Kaosan road by boat on the Chaopraya river, but I do not know which stop. I always hire a private long tail boat, never gone by water taxi. Bit pricier but way more fun. Your directions are probably right as it is not that far from Wat Phra Gaeow.

When is Songkran? This is the annual Thai religious festival?

Nothing religious about most of Songkran. It is the lunar new year in Thailand, true date is the first day of full moon in April, so varies from year to year. Traditional celebration is April 13 but water throwing starts usually April 11-12 and ends the 15th or so. In Pattaya generally celebrated one week later than BKK. There are some religious ceremonies such as bathing Buddha statues but the bars do not close .

Trink in last weeks BKK Post said that the New Gullivers is starting to liven up as a monger bar but had a mix of more bar girls than freelancers at this point. He said it had promise for the future though and would probably rival or outdo Thermae and Grace soon as a pick up bar. Will have to check it out next wek.

I am pleased to report that when i was there in early October.....this place went well.

Some nice young ladies about. A fair few freelancers present. However there were some of the other non whore variety about, who were just looking to gain further exposure to young farangs. (Farangs who are not on their death bed)
