How to pack for Thailand?

ClubHombre.com: Asia: Thailand: Advice/Questions/Commentary: How to pack for Thailand?

I'm heading to Thailand in March so I'm getting everything ready and I was wondering what type of luggage should I use when going. I'm going to stay about ten days and want to pack enough clothes but with the type of luggage I have, it could be hard to lug it around. I have the square cloth suitcase with wheels but should I get the hiker's pack and shove all my stuff in there? I'm taking a smaller pack to carry the small items while I'm checking out the sites...hope it goes through carry on. Any advice?

They do laundry cheap in Thailand. Bring the least amount of clothes possible.

Otherwise, just be comfortable. I prefer to travel with nothing more than a small carry-on even on an extended trip. I like it that way. Others seem pack half their worldly possessions. If that is you, well, at the airport and at any decent hotel in Thailand it is pretty cheap and easy to get someone else to push your bags around for you.

When I go to LOS I take clothes for about 2 days in a carry on bag everything else I buy there.
Also with only the carry on I'm out of the airport in short order.
I usually come home with about 20 shirts, a combo of knock off golf shirts and silk casual shirts. Most of the shirts are less than $5. shorts run about $7
I also buy a suitcase to carry the stuff I buy back.
My adult children all have a couple of my bags and never ask me why I have so many.

You bring back 20 new shirts from every mongering trip ????

Sounds like you have more money than sense !!!

Where do you plan on lugging your luggage ??
From the luggage claim to the taxi isn't far and from the taxi to your hotel front door is even shorter.

Your not planning on thumbing to your destination are you ???

Simple answer. Your there for ten days. Including what you wear on the plane

2 pairs long chino style pants
1 belt
1 swimming costume that can also be worn as shorts
1 pair shorts
4 t shirts and or golf shirts
4 pairs of socks
4 Underwear.
1 cap
1 sunglasses
2 pens
cell phone and charger
toiletries
pocket camera
condoms
A kendel with a Thai guide book on it and something to read.

If you shop in Thailand, and you should, you can buy a suitcase and pretty much all you need there cheaply.

You might want to take a couple of those shirts that wick the moisture off of you, they're especially nice when you're out and about during the day. Believe me, you're going to sweat like a pig!

Got back from Thailand a few weeks ago. I thought I packed light, but could have taken even less. The above list is good, but might throw in one more pair of shorts (see, there I go again). Seriously, they have some stores there we dont have in my city. So you wont be without. I think the only thing I had a problem with was medicine type stuff like for my allergies. Have fun.

To the guys who buy shirts and shorts over there, how big are you?
I'm a big guy (6'2"; 250 and I like my clothes to fit loosely), and have always thought that clothes in Asia run a little small.
Will I be able to find legit XXL t shirts, etc. over there or will their XXL be more like an XL here?

I usually wear L or XL when in LOS I buy XL and some are more like large and some are closer to XXXL. If they are hanging or loose its pretty easy to see grossly mismarked sizes. If they are packaged its harder.

Here's another question for you guys...what are the chances of someone other than yourself or traveling buddies tampering and/or placing illicit items in your luggage? I've been slightly corrupted by the media and worry about someone placing something in my luggage that could get me in trouble. I know I should use common sense and always be mindful of my belongings at all times but could it happen?
