Hey boys, first day on this site. Been to CR a couple times, going back for new years but wanted to do something different. The town of Puerto Viego looks interesting to me. Less tourists; lots of reggae. I speak basic but passable Spanish. Any action out that way?

I have been there a few times. Not much in P.V. Great National Park beach nearby and Rastis and weed but few programas. You will most likely have to back track to Limon to find something. It's only 20 or 30 Kilometers away but the last time I was there, the road was horrendous. Tons of potholes which make it impossible to attain any speed, so the trip can take you almost an hour between the two areas. Be careful in and around Lemon at night,some bad dudes there.

Thanks guys, I've posted a ton on wsa under a different name. That site is dead so I signed up here. I can cancel PV and it would cost me a couple hundred bucks. I do like adventure but I love pussy more. I've been to CR three times I think. Not thrilled with Del Rey any more. Was great the first time. Been to Jaco once and that was cool. I know you have been to CR a few times but it is a whole different scene from DEC. 23 or so, till after new years. Anybody with the money to do so goes to the beach . 90% of the girls go back to Nicaragua or Colombia or wherever they live the ticas stay at home with the family. San Jose will be a ghost town.
The beach will be hit or miss because most will be with family and won't even look at you. You have 2 options, go to the beach with a pre-arranged favorite or hope your Spanish is good enough to move out a non-pro at the playa.

Latinalover, thanks. Silly me. I didn't realize that. I thought new years eve, particularly, would be jumping everywhere. I booked the trip originally as a quiet getaway (no mongering) with a girl. Thinking about it, I spent new years eve one year with a non-English speaking paisa and her family on new years eve in Medellin. I guess it's the same everywhere. The hell with it, I guess I'll just go solo, bring a bunch of books, my guitar, and see what happens in Puerto Viejo. At the very least I'll get some sun, smoke some green and get to hear some raeggae.

Some of my best trips were when I went with no particular agenda. I strongly suggest however you have a place to stay before you get there. Even the most modest Cabin can be hard to come by. My girl and I stayed here twice, we really enjoyed it. http://www.coloncaribe.com/about.html.
An All inclusive bungalow type hotel, located between Limon and Cahuita. It is about a half hour north of P.V.

Thanks again Latinalover, appreciate your response. I already have a place. Probably a bit of overkill now. Private house with a pool on the beach walking distance to PV. I agree with your comment about not having an agenda though. I'm just trying to balance a non-touristy adventure with available pussy. I'm sure something will turn up - usually does. I'll post about the experience.
