You'll find plenty of familiar car rental agencies in Panama City. I do not know a lot about them since I do not feel comfortable driving around in an unfamiliar city.

Most visitors will use taxis which are generally inexpensive. You can get to most places for $1.50 or so, if you do it right!

Beware of taxis hanging out in front of hotels, strip clubs, bars, and massage parlors. Some of the taxi drivers in Panama City are the worst ones I've run into in my travels. I had them lie to me directly on several occasions.

Many will try to take you to a massage parlor (often Royal Elegance, which is difficult to find unless you see my tips) or strip club and offer to wait for you. What they won't tell you until you drop them off is that they charge a minimum fee of $20 per hour to wait.

If a taxi driver says he won't charge you but will still wait, don't believe him.

Your best bet is to hail a taxi off the street. The ones that wait will harass and pester you (a lot) but if it all possible, just ignore them and flag one down that is driving by.

I just returned from Panama. Pay the driver $1 when you get to your destination. It lets the driver know that you are not a neophyte. They have a rate sheet and if it is more they will let you know. Usually for example an extra passenger adds 25 cents to the fare. If you are looking for a guy to take you on a tour of the city; one who speaks good english check this guy out;Rene Guardiola tel: 261-2902 or cel:625-7564. The guy is reasonable and be sure to ask him about his stable of Colombian chicas.

I met a taxi driver who can speak a little English. His name is Felix. I told Felix about our club and mongering hobby. I told him I wanted to tour all of the redlight clubs, massage parlors & whorehouses in Panama City so that I can update our club. Felix thought it would be fun to help me/us out, so we worked a deal where I paid his entrance fee to the clubs ($1 to $2) and a beer at each club if not included already in the entrance fee. In return he provided the transportation, personal protection for the more seedier locations (a big plus), and he helped me and the girls understand each other better (personal translator). In a 4 hour period we hit Club Acropol, Club Le Meyor, Club Fenix (Also called Capri), and Greta Azul (Blue Goose). Tomorrow night we will hit the other spots and he will help me find those places not posted yet.

For those of you who need a driver who understands mongering in Panama City, Felix is your man. He knows where to go, he knows what is a fair price for a girl, and nobody (criminals/muggers)will mess with you cause he is a pretty big hombre (but friendly in a cool way).
