This hotel is located on the northwest side of Via 5 between Ruta 4 and Ruta 5 in Zone 4. The layout of this area is very unusual with the vias and rutas forming a crisscross pattern over the north-south bound Avenidas 6 and 7.
I stayed in three different hotels and visited two others. While it's just a minute walk from Le Club, one of the best clubs in Guatemala City, this hotel would only be my third or fourth choice of the five.
The Ramada Conquistador has a large lobby which opens to a large restaurant area and path to the rooms on the right. To the left of the reception desk is a small, single computer business center. The hotel is spacious and comfortable with nice decor. The rooms have a small apartment-like feel with a key-safe and small refrigerator, but you need to request the keys for both. The price was right at an affordable all-inclusive $62 per night.
I had a couple problems with the small shower. Since the door opened inwards, I had to stand completely inside the shower to turn it on. Despite turning lightly, I got a full blast of cold water covering my body. I switched the water to the handheld unit and had to point it at the wall before my next attempt. Number two, I never was able to get anything more than barely lukewarm water.
Use of the only computer in the business center was free for a single session, but it turned to almost completely useless due to slow processing and/or slow internet connection. The system was overtaxed with only 32MB of memory.
The surrounding area is Zone 4, west of Avenida La Reforma between Zone 1 and Zone 9. While I didn't witness any crime during my stay, this area felt like the most dangerous. I still walked around, but felt less comfortable here than in the other areas.
Many of the nicer hotels in the city are supposedly NOT guest-friendly. I have no idea if Ramada Conquistador is or not.
