Panama Hombres -
Not much discussion on Panama lately...how come?
I visited Panama the last week of June to mid July this year on my normal annual "fishing" vacation. I had a great time visiting all of my long-time friends...and I even made a few new friends...and I even caught a few fish.
However, I had what I consider a close call with a SG and the cops that I thought I should share with you.
One evening around 6PM I decided to walk from the casino near Hotel Lisboa to Hawaii Center (massage parlor...legal licensed sex)...just a few blocks away. As I approached Hotel Roma (opposite side of the block from Hawaii Center) an attractive SG hissed at from up the side street. I thought, what the hell, I'll check her out a little more closely to see if indeed she was attractive up close as she seemed from half a block away.
We started walking towards each other and as we met I greeted her with "hola"...I don't remember if she spoke Spanish or broken English...but I recall she asked me if I was looking for a good-time. I stopped for a second and leaned up against a concrete wall as we visited...she was good looking in her early 20s with a tight body and visible full cleavage.
Within 15 seconds of our encounter she spotted two cop cars (following each other) coming towards us...she motioned for me to move away as she started walking away from me. I knew the cops saw us talking...so I just waited, leaning against the wall, smoking my cigarette.
Two cops in the first cop car stepped out to talk with me and the second cop car stopped her.
The cops asked for my passport...I gave them a photocopy that I had in my back pocket. Then they asked me what business I had talking to that girl. I told them I wasn't sure, because I don't speak Spanish that well, but I though she was asking me for a cigarette. Then they asked me what I was doing in Panama...I told them I like to come down to do some fishing, gambling, playa (beach)...vacationing. Then they asked me what hotel I was staying at...I was staying at Hotel California 7 or 8 blocks away on Via Espana...I figured if I told them Hotel California they would grill me why I was out walking around so far from my hotel. I didn't want to tell them that I was feeling horny and I was on my way to a massage parlor to get laid when this SG intercepted me. So, since Hotel Roma was right there, I pointed to the hotel. Then one cop asked to see my llave (hotel key). I thought, "crap...did I just screw-up?" But then, it is customary to leave your room key at the reception counter whenever you leave the hotel...so, I told them the hotel collected my llave when I stepped out. The other cop turned to the one who asked to see my key and he confirmed that the hotel normally takes the key when the customer leaves the hotel...fortunately for me the first cop bought it...otherwise, I may have been forced to suddenly take a $55 room at Hotel Roma, or risk paying these guys off...or worse...get the crap kicked-out of me and arrested for lying to them.
Then a bus came around the corner blairing band music, flags were hanging out the windows, and people on-board were screaming...they stopped at the stop sign right in front of us...the cops couldn't hear me...I couldn't hear them...so, they just motioned for me to leave. I walked into Hotel Roma, got a bottle of water and sat there for a few minutes contemplating what had just happened.
I do not know if they arrested the SG, or gave her a warning...but, prior to this incident, I really didn't know that the Panamanian cops were that serious about stopping SGs and tourists.
In the future I'll probably avoid SGs...if I see one that is exceptional I may need to hire a cab to pick her up...drive her around to lose any cops...then pick me up on a different corner...but that seems to be too much of a hassle when I can get laid without a hassle at a massage parlor...definitely, she will need to be a stunner.
What are your experiences with the SGs in Panama...any run-ins with the cops...or bad SG experiences?
Good luck out there.

Since Panama is not really a well known destination for hobbying, you probably won't see a lot of discussion. Many of the gentlemen here seem to frequent South America and Asia.
That was a risky play, the cops could have escorted you to the hotel to verify things. I'm glad things worked out for you.
Unless there is an established street scene, I think it wise to avoid those ladies. Even when there is, ladies working the street are generally a greater risk than ones that work out of establishments, as the street workers can easily disappear if they need to.
I don't even recall seeing any SGs when I visited Panama. The cops never bothered me, I was under the impression they weren't much of a problem.

I used to spend time in Panama and I can't remember SGs either. I used to always stay at El Panama Hotel, where there was a massage parlor right next door.
I can't imagine that the cops gave two shits about a hooker. Maybe they thought it was drugs or something? Not really sure, but it seems like you got out of whatever it was without much of a hassle.

Well, here is my take. I now feel like a Panameno as I spend 1 week per month in Panama City. The SGs have returned and they hang out around the casinos (of course where there is gambling and drinking male tourist will be). The cops know this and they are now actively discouraging this. When I first went 2 years ago the free lancers were all over the place in the hotel lobbies and bars. The hotels moved the free lancers out of the lobbies and the country really tried to lower the SG scene. The reason...the HIV rate is alarmingly high and exponentially increasing (that is a different story) and the SG scene is a conduit to the problem. The cops do care about the hookers as the Panamanian healthcare system is pretty doggone good. The problem is the more HIV there is the more money it drains from the healthcare system. 90% of Panamaians are poor and need governmental healthcare support. If you remove the SG scene option and force the girls to get in the massage parlor business they are able to keep tabs on the health with regular screenings and condom availability and try to keep the HIV levels under some form of control.

Hard-You are right on. There was also an alarming increase in druggings and roberies from the SG's and the Mayor told the police to clean it up. They used to be everywhere. Now you hardly see any.
