I'll be in Panama the end of January 2005.

I wonder if any of the more experieced mongers could put togather a phrase book for those of us that are espanol challenged? The phrase books available don't really get to the subject matter we need. I know how to order eggs, but the books don't say how to order a BJ sans.

There are alot of useful phrases that would help out us novices.

Could any of you more experienced traverlers help out?

I believe there is some info of this type already on this site but if you want to provide the english phrases I'm sure myself and others will contribute in keeping with the Christmas spirit.

I highly recommend picking up an English/Spanish electronic translator. I was in Radio Shack the other day when I saw a couple nice Seiko devices. One was about $40, the other more expensive one actually pronounced the words in Spanish...I think it cost around $70-$80. (I have a 7-year-old Seiko...never changed the battery and it is still working great). I've seen other cheaper, but very effective devices for about $20 at Wal-Mart or K-Mart...I've taken these cheaper devices to Panama to give away as gifts, or part of the deal when haggling the price down.

I've used electronic translators for years in Panama and they work great. Obviously, since you don't speak Spanish, you will not be holding lengthy in-depth discussions with the talent...unless they speak English (some do)...so if you can "correctly" type the word you want in English and hit enter...you will be golden.

For example...when with your chica hold your dick out in front of you, quickly type "s-u-c-k" on your translator, hit enter. Now, keep a big grin on your face, point to your dick and let the chica read "Chupe" on the screen...if she can read...you should be golden...hopefully she will not bite it!

Drawback - I have not found a translator that translate "pussy, fuck, tit, dick, cum, asshole, or other slang type words, etc." So you'll have to stick to G & PG rated dictionary type words.

Don't ever get an English to Spanish electronic translator. Get an English to Spanish electronic dictionary. You'll pay about $30 more, but you get what you pay for...FYI, it's poquito, not gonna get into the grammar explination at this time though. Not gonna do it, wouldn't be prudent...

I actually do have an electronic dictionary for my Palm PDA as well as a phrase book and verb congigator. While these are all good, they are not geared to the hoby. For instance my dictionary gives 9 verbs for "suck" Chupar and Mamar seem to be the most likely. Penis comes up with 7 words and my naughty spanish book has many more than that!

I was just looking for some simple phrases like: what do you charge? Can you come to my room?, etc.

I just thought there might be a set of Spanish phrases already on the board ot someone might have one available. Thanks for the responses. I'm sure I'll muddle through as I have in other countries.

The easiest way is to say as few words as possible, but still get the point across.

For how much do you charge just say "cuantas?" or
"Cuantas por una hora (por dos horas, por la noche, etc.)" - How much for an hour? For two hours? For the night?

The verbs poder(can or be able) and venir(come) are WONDERFUL words to remember all tenses for the hobbiest.
"Puedes venir a mi habitacion?" Can you come to my room? or
"Cuando puedes venir a mi habitacion?" - When can you come to my hotel room?

You can say chupas or mamas for a command of suck. They will know what you mean. But they will also understand oral(long o for O-ral).

Te gusta oral? - Do you like oral?

Me gusta oral sin condon - I like oral without a condom.

A que hora vendras a mi habitacion? - What time will you come to my room?

There are only two problems with doing that:

1) You won't remember the phrases anyhow. I suppose you could write them down, but then you'd probably mispronounce them and not be understood anyhow.

2) The real problem - you're not going to understand the girl's reply. Communication is a two-way thing...

Get an electronic translator...dictionary type or regular...try speaking English slowly...they sometimes understand....use hand gestures and supplement them with a few choice words from your translator and write short notes on paper.

I'm not sure if you are latino, however cuantas is correct. Cuanto -a will depend upon the gender of the word. In this case hora is feminine. Therefore cuantas is appropriate.

I am no professor, however with traveling to Panama for 1 week every month I do have the opportunity to learn the dialect. In Panama they speak a more formal spanish than Mexico. Panamanians overall will follow the rules of spanish and not break too much into slang.

When in a taxi and addressing the male driver I will say "cuantos".

Mark Hobbes, I would suggest you befriend an english speaking taxi driver and he will help you. Also the women of Panama will help you with your spanish. I have found many to assist me.

Wager on something valid. I do quite well with my spanish and in plenty of other areas. Just because you were WRONG doesn't mean that you're not right some of the time. ;-)

Thank you for the responses (excluding the sniping, why bother?) When I said I spoke a little spanish I meant that I have had some HS and College Spanish, so understand the basics. I really just wanted some help with the right words, not just a bunch of things to memorize. I feel that if you have a basic understanding of the language, you can blunder your way along pretty well. The locals I have met are pretty good at helping any pathetic effort.

I know how to say "would you like to have dinner?", but I don't know the way to say "would you like to come up and fuck me?". The dictionaries are limited. So if I can avoid saying "can you align me for mouth sex?" I would like it. I know that it is easy to get the point across, but I would like like to improve on my skills.

Chupar can definitely be used in a sexual connotation. If you're laying in bed and tell a girl "chupame", I think she's gonna understand what you're asking her to suck.

In Nogales everyone uses "mamada" (not sure about the spelling) for blow job. (I.E. Cuanto quiere para una mamada? How much do you want for a blow job?) I have NO IDEA if they use that expression in Panama???

The usual "cuanto quiere" (how much do you want) should do fine. You may want to add what for after that expression though - "cuanto quiere para una hora", "cuanto quiere para sexo", etc.

"Puedes ir a mi cuarto?" (Can you go to my room?) Personally, I prefer to ask "Te gustaria salir con migo?", which is more like asking "Would you like to leave with me?"

"Te gustaria ir a mi hotel?" (Would you like to go to my hotel?) also works fine.

The truly bilingual here are welcome to correct me if my Spanish is lacking. My Spanish comes from Pimsleur courses and nearly 3 years of interaction with working girls, street people and a novia in Mexico. "Correct" or not, it seems to be understood by the locals there. As we all know, Spanish is as varied throughout the world as English is, so what they use in Mexico may be different from what they use in Panama. I would expect the words based on "proper Spanish" to be understand most places though.

A curious side note - when talking with my novia, it was always best if she spoke English and I spoke Spanish. That look of complete bewilderment was all I needed to know I'd just said something that made absolutely no sense.

I've used the term mamada with Panamanians, Nicas and Ticas in CR with no problem. In my experience, I have rarely, if ever, heard conjugations of chupar used actively except by gringos.

Now that I think of it, I have a bunch of friends from S. America (Colombia, Venezuela mainly), and I have rarely heard chupar used at all.

Of course, I did find out that ugly chicas are referred to as cocodrilos (crocodiles), and fugly chicas are referred to as gurres (armadillos) in Colombia. Interesting how regional variations can be used in some contexts to discuss a chica's status when on the prowl w/o her knowing!

I just took that test, finished "avanzado."
Big surprise, since I have a university degree in Spanish. I was bored with the test for the first two-thirds, then there were some tricky ones near the end. They could probably shorten it about 50 percent and get the same result.
