Alajuela, Costa Rica, has bars very similiar to the working man's Tico bars in San Jose. One is the Jupiter Bar about four blocks from the main Plaza. Crowded, smokey and full of Ticos sipping beers it is also frequented by women of all ages, sizes and types who will accompany you upstairs (room cost included) for 5,000 colones.

In my opinion, Bar Jupiter is very dangerous and I don't recommend it at any time or under any circumstances, even if you speak fluent Spanish, can handle yourself in rough situations, and are with several people. The police are there almost every Friday/Satuday night breaking up fights inside and on the streets. There are plenty of other, safer places to look for women here. Stay away from this one!

Thanks Tampagringo for the warning. I wasn't recommending the Jupiter, just mentioning it as what it is.
What are better, safer places in Alajuela?
When I visit I stay with friends in Atenas, and Alajuela is about as far as I want to travel.

Unfortunately, Alajuela isn't a very good mongering destination. There are two nightclubs - if they are both still open, Fantasia and Hotters (it's been over a year since the last time I checked out the action in Alajuela.) I've posted info on both in the past. You should be able to find it using the wordsearch feature. In my opinion, you're wasting your time in Alajuela or in Heredia, for that matter, and are much better off going on into San Jose.

This small neighborhood bar is an after work beer bar, a Friday night Karaoke bar, and a weekend after 10pm location for independent ladies. Around 10,000 colones will get you over and hour of GFE. Conversational Spanish required.
The nearby Hotel El Penol is a good place to stay in Alajuela and admits lady friends without cost. http://www.hospenolcostarica.com
The further you get from these two places the more dangerous Alajuela becomes. The area around the bus stop should never be visited after dark.
