I assume Hotel Las Vegas is a $20/night kind of place. I've never stayed there, but assume it probably is on par with other cheap hotels. As long as the a/c is cold, the shower hot, clean sheets w/daily maid service, color cable TV and adequate security...why not? Your room will be small...but do you plan to spend 24-hours per day in it?
I use cheap hotels to fuck, sleep and shower. I don't like to burn-up my budget on expensive hotels...this way I can stay down-range longer. When I wake-up I shower then head-out to do something fun. Rarely do I spend a lot of waking hours in a hotel room. If you do spend a lot of time in a hotel room...then you might want to upgrade to a $50/night room where you can get more floorspace...maybe a livingroom and small fridge/micro for entertaining.
If you stay at Las Vegas...tell me what it was like.
Also, consider moving every other day or so to other cheap hotels...you will find some are better than others.
My favorite is Hotel Lisboa 011-507-227-5916/17 or 19) in the heart of Caledonia...rooms are nice sized with big windows for view...SGs all over the place at night (best to take a cab rather than walk due to safety). The beds in this hotel are American matresses with boxspring...very comfortable. Also, Hotel California (011-507-263-7736/8140) is pretty good assuming they give you a normal size room rather than the little room in the corner...if they do scam you with the small room...you gotta complain. (You'll know you have a small room when you nearly have to step-over the corner of the bed to get into the room).
I've also stayed in Hotel Marpariaso (011-507-227-6767). Their rooms are not any better or worse than other cheap hotels...but they will send their van to the airport to pick you up and drop you off...no cost (except tip).
I've actually stayed at Marparaiso my first and last night of my trip to take advantage of the free airport travel (normally costs $25 each way). The other nights I stayed at either Hotel Lisboa (better view and quieter if high up) or California (conveniently located on end via Espania/start of Central). All have restaurants in or nearby that serve delicious meals at reasonable prices ($3-$8 depending how much you want to eat).
Hope this helps.
