Hi all...
I don't post much on the Costa Rica board (pretty much exclusively on the CH Colombia board, and on costaricaticas.com) but got the go-ahead from the Administrator to mention something I've just put up online.
Three years ago I finished a novel based on my 16 years in Costa Rica. Titled PURA VIDA, it was adapted into a one-act play. It created enough controversy--because the topic was prostitution--to make the New York Times. From there it was picked up and ran front page in San Jose's La Nacion, then back to back page one appearances on AMCOSTARICA.
There was interest by a couple of New York literary agents--both women--but nothing came of it. Not sure if the subject matter doomed its chances, but it didn't help. So, two years later, sick of being jerked around by lady agents, I took matters into my own hands and just put it out as an ebook on PAULYVEGAS.COM.
There is a sample chapter about the early days of mongering in Costa Rica, getting intro'd to the Rey, Happy Days, the oil show at the Park Hotel. There's also photos from "back in the day," circa '96. You guys can get these for free. And if you want to click through and read the whole book, so much the better...
So, check it out, pass the word.
Thanks,
Pauly V
