I have been to CR 14 times in the last 2 years. All the negatives that everyone writes are true to some degree.
BUT! In my humble opinion CR has a value that I have not found anywhere else in the world yet.
It is very easy and affordable to get to from the east coast. It is not Third World in attitude or appearance. It is second world if there is such a thing. Not as well kept as the US but not like the Dominican Republic either.
I write this because I am leaving for CR again Friday because I found a 286.00 fair from Washington DC. I leave on Friday and return Monday. A perfect way to blow of steam.
It is as safe as large US cities in the seedy areas of town. There are casinos for those who gamble and girls girls girls.
It is cheaper that the US for girls but more expensive than the DR or Brazil.
But the real reason to go to CR is the girls attitudes. Yes there are many mercenary girls who only want to give you 1 hour. But that 1 hour is still like a gfe. But there are still many girls there looking for a guy. Looking for a nice night and extra money.
Yes I prefer Thailand and Brazil but my business forces me to be much more comfortable with 4 day weekends than 1 or 2 week vacations. For me it is perfect and I wanted to share why. There must be a lot of other guys who can not get away for long periods who need to blow off steam as I do. I am sad that this board posts almost no info on CR anymore and for many guys in my situation it might be the perfect destination.

T-man,
You are right about CR in many areas. I love CR and I met a very special woman there 7 yrs ago.
After three trips this year to Rio I have to agree with you on the travel aspect of it. CR is very convinent for me to get to from Newark nj and comparitivly cheap, $330 now.
The rub for me is how it has changed over the 15 years. if your first trip was in the last 4 or 5 years you may not see the change. I guess I would feel better if I just let the old days be just that, the old days, and just enjoy the country for what it is today. I am returning to CR this thursday for a 4 days love fest with my x novia, this should be ...err..fun? lol! If anyone needs info on the roads less traveled in CR let me know.

The best 2 things about C.R.
1)The Colombia women that go to work there;
2) The fishing is great! Just wait until you hook up with your first 300+ pound Marlin....Now, there is something to brag about!
Anybody can get laid in C.R. and show photos to prove it. Not everybody can hook up with an "Old Man and the Sea" world class Marlin and live to tell about it!
Maybe I am just getting jaded in my old age but some trophys are more important than others.
Been a long time since any chica has rocked my world for an hour the way that Marlin did!
I cannot even remember the girls name that night but I remember that bitch on the end of my rod and reel like it was yesterday.....!
She was the ultimate GFE. Never bitched or complained about anything; never asked for any money; made me work for it but she worked her ass off as well; was happy to be released after her hour of fun; let me take photos and no problems with posting them on the internet; didn't drink any of my liquor; didn't mind that I was sweating my ass off; didn't make me take a shower before or afterwards; gave a quick flip of her tail and a quick wink after she was let go.
Hummmm????

Sandman,
"I cannot even remember the girls name that night but I remember that bitch on the end of my rod and reel like it was yesterday.....!"
let me explain the difference; one of them is suppose to smell like a fish!

Travelman.....
I agree with you 100% based on the fact that CR is easily accessible from the east coast and Houston with no time change involved. If you're tight on time, CR is hard to beat. If you have vacation time on your side, there are much greater places to adventure to.
btw...... Hoping to get to CR for a quick 2 nighter myself in the near future.

It seems as though CR is TJ for guys on the East Coast. From talking to friends that have been to both places, the service is about the same for both places.

Blazer,
I have been to TJ and CR. TJ does not hold a candle to the CR. It has changed as stated above but it will take another 15 years to get as dirty and business like as TJ.
CR is great! But if you have more than a week to vacation there are better mongering destinations. But ahhhhh for that 2, 3 or 4 day get away......

I'd agree with Travelman, TJ doesn't have the Zona Blue type places, and the CR doesn't have the crooked cops shaking you down for tips/bribes... AND all the Cuban cigars are actually from Cuba...

Blazers,
IMHO you are correct, if you remember my trip report from January my first and last expressions was that San Jose was TJ, just further south and without the street taco vendors. And no San Diego that you can retreat to after a mediocre mongering experience.

CFK-If I remember correctly, they both smelled like fish. One more so than the other because she was fresher....LOL
P.S. BTW-Great response you had there.

Just got back from CR stayed at the Hotel Martino in Alajuela in barrio gararita out by the Zoo. Me and my X went to the fiesta casino Friday night, great band and tons of hot ticas. I had to be discrete because I was with my X but they all seemed to be non pros but if i had time to search I'm sure there were a few working girls mixed in, but some really hot girls. If you speak spanish its a good place to hook up with some non pros. Saturday night we went to the Charlie Chaplin theater to see and 'off broadway' type play her family member was in. the theatre is on Aveneda 12 and calle 11. So on the way back to the hotel I drove past the Del Rey and Horseshoe Casino. It was around 11pm and I can tell you this from experience the area has changed for the worse. A lot of unsavory characters around. From the car I could spot at least a half dozen guys who were sizing up potential marks... be very careful walking around even if its only a few doors away from the del rey.
Puravida.

LL - I'll take you up on your offer about the road less traveled....please tell me what you know about Dominical - anyone else with info, please chime in.
Sandman,
From one fisherman to another - great allegorical writing, I'll have to remember that when explaining what I did on my next trip. I haven't ascended to your level yet, I'm still stuck on #1 - the Colombian women that work there. They're killin' me!
By Latinalover on Thursday, November 22, 2007 - 04:47 am: Edit |
Har,
Dominical is primarily a surfers and fishing town, the road is horrendous if you come from Jaco area, its all paved if you go thru the mountians to San Isidro and west from there to Dominical. No real monger action per say, however if you speak spanish the local women are always looking to make a few extra colones. In San Isidro is a bar called Bar Mexico it always has a few working girls in there. However the quality is hit and miss at best. The best place to connect with a local part timer in Dominical is a restaurant/bar/disco called La Rocke Verde.
Puravida!

LL - i'm amazed at your knowledge. Thank you. I will not be making that trip, but I have a friend who has picked the place for fishing. I hope he does well.
