Last year in C.R. I hired a taxi driver to give me a tour one evening. I told him I already been to the well known places. He then remembers a place....takes me to this house with a black metal gate in some neighborhood. You cant get in unless a taxi driver brings you and honks. He honks, and someone looks out the window...its like a 2-3 story house with steps leading up to the front door...I think the front door is on the second story, the first story is a garage?? well anyways, he honks again, and they keep looking and then the curtain falls down in the window and I get out. He gets out with me. They buzz the gate open and I go up the stairs.

Inside, I see a group of friends watching pornos and getting drunk sitting in the living room on the sofa. Then there is this guy in this little cubicle with a window and he seems very busy talking on the phone. I speak spanish very well, and ask him if there are "chicas" available. He says, not at this moment but I should check later on.

I was in CR for a week. I want to try that house again since I visited all the places posted on redsnake and I find a cab driver and he radios for info on how to get to the house with the black gate. He also takes me in, and people were hangin out partying there. Apparently they had a birthday party going on there. It's a house with a bunch of people there....anyways, the guy in the little office/cubicle sees me and calls some girls...they call them from the dining room where they were cutting a birthday cake, and 3 girls come out. One was really hot, a plump butt but very doable...price: 7,500 colones which was like 25 bucks in June of 2000...this included the taxi commission I guess but hey!! 25 BUCKS!!
She was a great romp!!


What a weird place..it is hit and miss, but does anyone have info on what the deal is with this place? Post other discoveries here!!!!!!!!My spanish is great so I talk to the cab drivers and they have even offered me to take me to brothels 1 hour out of san jose on the road to Limon...but I never went, I just get the info! Some other cab driver told me there was this high society brothel in San Pedro. Post your discoveries here.

How about some more specific info either on the "black Gate" or the taxi driver who took you there? Do you have his name and or phone number?

I liked the info you put up about your recent trip. I also feel that exploring beyond Gringo Gulch is more fun. I will only now begin to pursue those type of options within San Jose proper, as I had covered the better known locales and hit the beach on previous trips.

I haven't been out in a while due to other demands. If you have any suggestions, I am all ears.

Hey Gitano, I remember you...from redsnake, aka bushpilot, what's up dude!!! As you know, I usually like to post info rather than my personal trip reports and experiences. On Red snake I did updates on the scene and gave advice on how to dress and be careful at night. Anyways, I started this thread for exactly what you said, outside of the gringo gulch scene. The reason I found that house with the gate is because I speak spanish and since I lived in a latin country for years (Colombia), I knew there was more than just the normal scene (blue marlin, Idem, etc.) (if you need info on Colombia safety/precautions, let me know)
In Colombia, there are the known places just like in San Jose, plus apartments/homes where you go in and ladies come out and shake your hand...but that is another story, haha.....

DonGordo: If you are interested in that place, the only thing I can remember is "Alberto" who took me there. He is the really fat pirate taxi dude that hangs out in front of VIPS! He speaks good English also and he is really cool and never overcharged me (500 colones for a ride last year).

As far as the name of the place/establishment of that house with the black gate, I have no idea, that place is strictly underground and very few taxi driver's know the place since one had to ask around and radio..it's a word of mouth type of place and it would be a good idea to keep it that way or the price will go up at the place since it is for locals and no tourists ever go there...just ask for Alberto at VIPS, make sure you ask for the "taxi driver" Alberto because I think another Alberto came out of VIPS once and asked me what I wanted..hahah.......

Alberto also took me to this little white house where I saw a really cute tica girl for $4500 colones which was 15 bucks last year and this tells me that no comission was involved, so Alberto is not like the average taxi driver, which is really cool. She was like the only one there at this homemade bar in this house, and they had a room in the back or something. Alberto knew the owners and I bought him a drink there. Alberto even offered to invite me to lunch at his house...really cool dude, so give him a tip or something. Well hope this helps....lets get the underground info scene going here people! and Bush Pilot, let's just hope TicoMike doesnt show up here to crash the party! hahahah...later brotha!

Most of my best times in San Jose have happened outside of "The Gulch".That doesn`t mean that I still don`t spend a lot of time there...

Depending on some family business, I am planning another trip just after the 4th of July. When I confirm it I will post the dates. I really enjoy meeting other gringos and swapping war stories with them. Daytime at the Blue Marlin, the New York Bar and Sharkey`s are great locations for sipping a few beers and getting to know new amigos.

No problem dudes, just keep it on the down low if the place still exists...Ask your Tico contacts about similar places. Tell Alberto the miami dude he gave a tour to of all the spots from last year in June says hi. Tell him to take you to all the little tico spots and maybe you will see what you like...ask him how much upfront if you are worried about prices for driving around...I never did and after like an hour of riding around, he charged me a very reasonable price unlike other cabbies...


I wanted to go to C.R. this month but a buddy of mine said he couldnt make it....wondering if I should go alone or not....hmmm.

By the way, the house with the homemade bar my taxi buddy took me to with one tica there was great. Room in the back, she gave me a BBBJ without me even saying anything and when I went to do the deed, she just closed her eyes and gave a nice smile...I guess she really enjoyed it...Like you all said in this thread, the best experiences are off the gringo trail.

Ok, here are the places Alberto took me to. I just met up with him. These places are local Tico places and you would have to know some spanish.

La Bella Mansion - saw a couple of cuties there, and the price was 5000 colones. Now that is like 15 bucks, plus 100 colones for the condom, which is like 33 cents or something.

Las Margaritas - same price I believe as above. Some cuties.

The house with the black gate was shut down because of involvment with drugs. Now the heavy partying going on there everytime I went makes sense. Too bad, it was a non tourist secret place.

Cartago- I was chatting with Alberto and he told me there is a brother in Cartago. Again, you should go accompanied with someone and speak Spanish.

Fbla2, La Bella Mansion, its a place within walking distance of the BW Downtown, right? In November '99 I went by there with this guy that was also staying at BW. A white casa inside a fence? He spoke more spanish than I, said they welcomed him, allowed pix, etc. We went by there in the afternoon but darn it wasn't open.

Fbla2, sorry, Best Western Downtown. On 6th, near 7th (I can't remember which was Calle and which was Ave). But from the walkway outside my room, facing downtown, I could see Josephinas a couple blocks to my right(north?). A "bad part of town". Lots of poor people in the local 'hood, and some overweight women hanging around a "pension".
This guy from Chicago was staying @BW too. He said he wandered into "La Bella Mansion" and offered $20, which was readily accepted. He said he also asked for photo permission and got it, but he didn't get specific on what level of desnuda.
Later he bragged about visiting some flophouse at less than $5, I advised him to take a hot shower after those places. Crawly things, ya know...

That area around the BW is dangerous. Several years ago I walked from there to the Park Hotel. I guess I am a pretty imposing guy and I look Latin enough, however I certainly pushed my luck.
I remember that walk being I saw a rat the size of a large cat walking in the gutter. I also remember seeing some security guards at a market look at me like I was about to die.

Has anyone gone to Torrenolinos(it's a Hotel in SJ) on Friday's from 6pm to 9pm. Supposedly that is when Spanish Eyess(a matchmaking service) get's their Tica's and Gringo clients together to meet. It may be a private gathering but there may also be a lot of single Ticas looking for Gringos. Any ideas on this? And where is this hotel?

As for that neighborhood near Josephine's/Best Western there is one block in particular (Calle 6, Ave 7, if I recall correctly) that is like a U.S. skid row, including crackheads. It's rough by day, unthinkable by night. A good reason to not stay at the BW.

But you can get to the pensions early (I'm not an early riser, but got satisfaction at 10 a.m.). On either fourth or sixth, between third and fifth, three on one side, one on the other. Gorditas always standing in front of one of them. Slim pickins inside, but if you are willing to go in and out of all of them and then come back in ....I found a chica eventually every time but once, and I only like medium-small to skinny girls. I ended up doing two of the girls twice, somewhat rushed, but as someone else said, I didn't necessarily care for GFEs when I had one. Prices were 2500, 3000, and 3500, sorry don't remember at which. I'll see if I can find my notes, so I can post the promised trip report. Only BBBJ (to completion at that)in five days was there was from 45 YO Olga, who figured out that Sucky Sucky would be my thing. She also warned me using hand gestures to watch out for pickpockets. I should have been so lucky, but that was another part of San Jose. Some very rudimentary Spanish on my part, no English on their part, AND I would definitelly avoid the area at night now that I know Better.

There are some postings under different sections of San Jose, or Costa Rica, but I was thinking we could get some underground San Jose stuff up and running. The little out of the way spots that nobody really knows about. One with chicas OVER 18, not some place that deals with kiddy stuff. Places with chicas that are not Blue Marlin stuff, places with some knockout or borderline knockout that is a college student. Any other Green Door clone places with 'of age' chicas.
