Crime & Punishment
By DON WINNER for Panama-Guide.com - Last night two armed men briefly kidnapped Stephanie Márquez as she left her house in Hato Pintado at gunpoint. They fired one shot into the air and forced her into their vehicle. They took everything of value she had with her at the time, money and jewelry, as well as her credit cards and ATM card. They forced her into the backseat of their car, threw something over her to cover her, and held her at gunpoint as they used her ATM card to withdraw cash. Once that was done she was released unharmed. If you ever find yourself in this kind of a situation the best thing you can do is simply cooperate fully. If you don't resist then most likely you will not be injured. These kinds of crimes, called "express kidnapping", are becoming more and more common in Panama.
