Its been about 6 years since I've been to Rio and reading this board again, it looks like a lot of things have changed. Could anybody provide some help on prices? I've seen a huge range in terms of prices for girls in termas and overnights. I remember being able to pay 70 t0 80 US for an hour in a terma and 120 US (R300) for all night from help. Are these still the right ballparks or am I way off?

Also, I'm going to sneak in a side question... I'm coming down in June for my birthday. What do people do at night now that HELP is gone?

Considering the fact that the exchange rate is half what it was 6 years ago, you're off by about half. Everything is double to triple the price in dollar terms than 6 years ago.

Just got back from Luomo about an hour ago. Slightly under 400 reais for a few beers and an hour in a cabine. Probably would have been more expensive if I had taken someone in there with me.

:-) There have been guys who probably would have been better off not taking girls into the cabines. One friend regularly fell asleep before doing the deed. Another guy used to use the girls as therapists, spending the whole hour talking about his problems. And then there's the guy who hit a girl and got a good chunk of his ear bitten off.

What do you do at night in Rio now that Help is fechado? There are lots of options. Go to Balcony Bar and grab one of the ex-Help putas working there. Go to Shenanigan's in Ipanema and pick out one of the freelancers that hangs out there. Stay in one of the termas until closing time. Cruise the boites in the Lido area. Order delivery service from one of the escort places. It's not like Rio is whore-free now that Help is gone. The difference is there's no true "ground zero" where mongers can hang out. Balcony Bar comes the closest.

Current Terma pricing info: Stumbled out of 44 about 7 pm today ( thru the doors at 3) 6 beers and an hour and some gratis wacky backy from Lorraine - its getting to be a tradition. Approx 330 reais.

Bwana - Shenanigan's is a great suggestion. Alongside that, Empório which is located on Rua Maria Quitéria, 37. Usually gets going when Shenanigans is getting ready to close (Wednesday - Saturday is best).

One other option is weekend late afternoon/early evening wandering on Copa beach itself. Plenty of GDP's walking up and down.... if one looks, smiles, pretty much 95% chance she is working. Ipanema has a few, but much less....Leblon beach even less.

I generally do not like the boites in the Lido area do to drink prices, but they are certainly an option.

lets not forget Barbarella in Lido. Ok, expensive all around - drinks and girls, but an option.

Also, contacting BS....he usually has a set of girls at his beckon call.

Another, less explored but somewhat fun and different option - there is usually one night when they allow single men to enter into the local swingers clubs. Not a given that you will get laid, but generally pretty good chances.

Prices??? Outside the termas, prices can range greatly - The same girl will quote R$100 to one, and R$300 to another (Maybe even R$500 if you look gullible enough). I would say R$100 - R$150 is pretty good going range. R$200 for a little better quality. These are overnight prices.... short term I would never pay more then R$100.

It really is shaping up to be a red letter trip. It is tuesday evening in Rio, and because I am a man of my word (and old and exhausted) I am here in my apartment laboring over my keyboard in order to produce once again the latest in my series of barely useful terma cost updates.

Centaurus report: Not quite a hater yet but overall tonight was not helpful. Was there once before a long time ago and ran into an outstanding girl so always felt C was getting a bit of a bad rap. Suckiness factor high tonight.

450 entry with cuarenta minutes. Asked about upgrade to 60 minutes. 250 extra!!! Thats 125 for each additional 10 mins or 62.5 for each 5 mins! Dont check my math but man what a ripp.

No toilet or shower in 40 min cabine. I guess you could piss in the sink if you were tall or long enough. Muito frio airconditioning and no sheets/blankets or pillows for that matter. Just a weird giant padded tootsie roll thing at the head of the cama.

There were probably 30 to 40 girls there though. Many of them pretty but no better than Luomo (which was very good friday and sunday). I counted 7 guys including myself.

The good news: Cervesas are only 5 reais and not the standard 4x4 6.

I found life in the Boite very annoying. "you want duas" "I fucky you" (oh, really. You mean this is a whorehouse? I thought it was a notary public and was just about to protest the requirement to put on a robe.) High pressure sales here. Luomo way more relaxed.

The C boite is more spacious and its in a nice part of town but unless you just plan to mine for new garotas to come to your apartment probably a waste of time and money.

PS My girl was great and she gave me her number uncoaxed. This is a sign they are hurting for business as I usually have to threaten them to get their number.

700 for an hour? WTF! For that money you could get 5 Karla's girls for two hours, two 12-packs of Skol, a bottle of vodka and 6 Red Bulls, and have one hell of a festa!

For 470 you could get three girls and have a pretty good party.

My last (meaning most recent and final) visit to C was much like yours. I was hounded by overly aggressive girls who were only average at best. They came in waves of two, and I finally resorted to sitting in a corner with a friend so they couldn't get at us. I'd been to 4X4 earlier that evening, where the selection was better and the prices were much, much better. I left without sessioning.

An additional 250 is what the man said. There may have been some kind of misunderstanding but I was in no mood to bicker. By the way, the lady at the front desk was kind of bitchy also and this added to the "these people dont have my best interests at heart" feeling. There is a slightly dodgy feel to the place unlike Luomo and 4x4 where you never get the feeling they are going to try to pad your bill or push "extras" on you.

Wednesday may yield a Monte Carlo report but Don emitted a skeptical, dismissive snort when I mentioned the possibility that Lorraine may join me in my apartment or even a luxe evening at VIPS, so the gauntlett has been thrown down, although its more likely to be Monte carlo as I need to rest up some for a possible multi hour off site encounter with the future owner of all my brazilian assets.

Compare Centauress' 20 minute upgrade of 250r to 4x4's 20 minute upgrade of only 20r. One is an utter scam while the other you can hardly ever refuse.

Stayaway - Yeah, I never refuse the 20 min upgrade at 4x4. Havent done a 40 in a long time.

The Centaurus thing may have been an upgrade of time and suite because as I said the cabine we ended up with didnt have a shower or toilet. My portuguese is muito fraco so I never really have an absolutely clear idea of whats going on. In any event, probably never going back.

Tonights report - Termas 65: Yeah, I know I said Monte Carlo but my feet found themselves moving toward the cantagalo subway station.

I think beers are 6 reais. Its been almost 2 hours since I was there so sue me if I forgot the exact price. Its somewhere in that ballpark. Id be more clear on these things if the girls werent such outstanding fucks. They usually have to lead me by hand, partially stunned (and dressed) and babbling, back to the front desk.

1 hour in a cabine plus entrada etc. = 350.

Weird day. strolled Copa this afternoon and with info gleaned from this site looked for Jag in front of Othon Palace. Didnt find him but I think I ran into his man friday/thief saturday. While you should always do the hour at 4x4 and Cancun, doing an hour at the other main termas is usually a pretty bad use of funds. Stick to the 40 minute sessions.
