If you are in Rio during the World Cup, which starts June 11th and goes through July 11th, you can go to the World Cup venue set-up on Copa Beach (right across from the Balcony Bar) and watch the games there. With other enterainment (like Ivete Sangalo, etc) this place should be hoping during the games.

Brazil is part of Group G and will have their first game on June 15th at 3:30 Rio time (US East Coast time + 1 hour). They will play against North Korea.

The next Brazil game after that is 6/20 at 3:30pm, and a big game against Portugal on 6/25 at 11:00am

Watch N. Korea in that first match. Their talent level isn't up to the Selecão's, but they've been known to fire off a torpedo or two.

The problem is not the closing of VM, but a trend that started with the closing of 'Help'...I have a strong feeling that eventually Rio will be more and more "cleaned-up", including the little remaining scene in Copa and Leme (such as the Balcony Bar).

It is all about creating the best image for the city to get ready for the games...hookers in the street & swelling out of bars in the main tourist areas certainly seems to be the next logical targets.

Now, I certainly would like a High speed rail-link between Rio and SP (Since I have to go there frequently) in place of VM, but our overall scene in Rio is ever more under attack due to the upcoming World Cup and Olympics

If VM closed, the skanks there would have to go somewhere. It is hard to imagine Balcony Bar getting worse, but that could become the reality.

Speaking of Help, it is amazing how the closing of it also mostly shut down the daily action found outside Othon Palace and Cesar's Park -- the hooker's beach.
Things may change as summer approaches in Rio, but the action to be found outside Cesar's recently was mostly non-existent. I never seen more than a handful of GDP's during the week even on really beautiful days. And on weekends, it was packed with Brasilians that it was pointless going there if interested in P4P girls.

The in-your-face 24x7 sex scene of Copa has been radically changed in a very short period of time. I don't like to think how it is going to be 4 years from now.

Yeah, unfortunately you are right....in one of the other topics regarding DR it was mentioned that most of the Brazil vets don't really post many reports anymore. That is because the scene has shrunk so dramatically since 'Help'. Most of the vets I know really just hit the termas at this point...only so much reporting you can do on 4x4, Centaurus, etc..Eventually it seems that those will be the only options left.

What it really all boils down to: The problem of 'Help' closing and the ripple effect is that many of the high caliber girls from the other cities and regions are gone and are not coming back. Instead of having the option to make some good coin in Help, they get to compete only in one place, then mostly with Favela girls - the Balcony Bar. Even worse, are some of the older skanks that should have retired a long time ago that come into the bar. What surprises me a bit is that so few guys seem to use the escorts services or the independents. If you read the Brasilian boards, that's where much of the action is. I suppose it's a language thing, as most guys I know can't get on the phone and order "delivery" service. The casual monger has fewer choices with Help gone, because language was never much of an issue there.

Rio was the only place in Brasil with in-your-face venues like Help and VM. Action is available in every city of any size in Brasil, but almost always it's a bit more discrete. It takes place inside clubs, inside saunas, inside clinicas, and inside love motels. It was Help's scale that was the real problem. There were just too many putas and too many mongers in one place at one time, which attracted too many low-life banditos and street kids. From the Rio resident's' point of view, there was nothing positive about it.

The hobby in Rio isn't going away, it's just moving behind walls and doors, as is the case in the rest of the country. That's a bummer for some guys, but I like how much safer it seems along Av. Atlântica these days. I do miss sitting out at the Terraço shooting the shit with the other guys, but that's pretty much it. The rest of the changes seem a net positive to me.

Escort services are mostly for the the married Brasilian guy IMO. In most cases, they really only want the fast fuck (1 - 2 hours) and get back to work or their spouse. The last thing they want is to be caught hanging out with a whore dancing and drinking. The "escort" option for them works great and they will pay the extra premium for it.

But for the average gringo tourist, we don't give a shit about discretion. In fact some guys would even hang outside in pink shirts while a news crew was on-site at Help or be seen at the mall taking some puta shopping.

Good or bad, the girls that worked at Help didn't have much else to do. Most of them were from out of town, they were usually staying in a small apartment with other girls. If you "clicked" with a girl, there was generally no issues with the girl hanging out, going to the beach and in general being a girlfriend for rent. That is an aspect a Brasiliero would not want in the least, but a gringo would gladly embrace it. I got to experience a lot of Brasilian culture this way and lots of fond memories.

The idea of ST-girls is plentiful, but with Help going away it takes a lot more work to find good LT-girls these days. For such a big city with plenty of low-income people, it would really surprise me another market place didn't spring up to bring putas and gringos together again.
