Try Cae de Oro, Nice place near Kilt's and not that expensive for SP.

I stayed at the Comfort Hotel Downtown before. Just a couple of blocks from Love Story (The Sao Paulo version of Help), and close to Kilt's and all the rest of the stuff. Price wise was pretty reasonable and a decent hotel. Easily booked via the US website...

If the Casa de Oro on Rua Agusta almost next to Big Ben is the hotel I am thinking about, it has been closed for 6 months to a year. I always stay at one of the Mercure hotels in Jardins or Pariso. Later in the evening, it's only about a 15 minute taxi ride to centro.

or from Jardins you can hop on one of the numerous Rua Augusta buses (which run right next the hotel) and get downtown in the same 15 minutes max.

Cae de Oro use to be nice place to stay when I was in SP. Did not know it was closed.
Sorry.

To be clear, I meant the Rua Augusta buses run right next to the Mercure Jardins hotel.

Thanks. That hotel looks perfect for me if I can ever afford to return to SP.

The 155 Hotel looks like a winner. It has a great location: close to the action on both Rua Augusta and Nestor Pestano (including Kilt and Love Story), not far from Scandallo, and very close to some great Italian restaurants. I'll check it out next time I'm in SP.

I checked out this hotel when I was in Sao Paulo early September. It is 2 short blocks from Kilt if you just walk out and cross the street and down the hill. Very walkable even late at night. I would not recommend walking towards the Augusta clubs like Casaroa though which is probably 5 long deserted blocks away. The lobby looks very hip and modern but I don't know if women can be found there since I visited the hotel around 17h. The rooms have nice wood floors and flat screen televisions. I would definitely try to book a room there next year.
For almost exactly the same price if Augusta Clubs is your thing, I would go with the older Hotel Moncloa which seems to be girl friendly as well and close to Casaroa and New Maison.
