anyone recommend a great place to stay with bars, clubs, good food, guest friendly, not too expensive?

Sao Paulo is one of the largest cities in the world. You are going to have to be more specific in terms of which bars, clubs, etc. you want to be close to. In the meantime, I suggest you use Treeview to get oriented to Sao Paulo, as well as read some of the trip reports. Both can be accessed by starting with the links--Treeview, and Trip Reports--located at the left side of your screen.
