Back in Rio again. 4x4, Monte Carlo, and Luomo (fav or course) are as they ever were. But Solarium has taken a major turn for the worse.
It used to be worth the drive maybe once a trip, now I doubt if I'll ever (well, ever is a long time) go back.

The place now has an unfriendly vibe. The garatos sit around in groups talking and laughing with each other or by themselves with a scowl or a look of utter boredom. None are dancing. The highlight of the action was when the bartender started the wave.

My individual experience was good. I had a nice, almost gfe type of experience. She had big test coming up in psychology and seemed quite stressed about it. I told her no more orgasmos for you if you don't pass. Interesting girl. Gave me 4 recommendations on Brazilian writers.
But, the rest of gang of garotas were an unpleasant bunch.

There's a relatively large faction of somewhat militant lesbos. My non-portugese speaking long time buddy suspected it, and they were happy to confirm it and give us details as to who could make who come faster or more often. His girl wanted it up the ass and he was happy to oblige.
Then she returned to the boite and started making out with another garota which in and of it self is not a bad thing. It's when you get the feeling some of them would cut your dick off and beat you over the head with it that you start to long for Luomo.

I asked three to scoot over a bit to make room for me on the long bench that runs the length of the bar and was barked at by the one in the middle who refused to move. The one on the end got up and walked to the other side where there was tons of room.

Careful with the bill. We are accustomed to look at the last total on the bill. Well, your total is not the last number unless you want to pay with a credit card. It would be quite easy, in fact my buddy did so, look at the last number and assume it's your total and pay it in cash. Seems like a practice to rip-off tourists.

Oh, and something happened that I have never seen happen before. When we got up to leave, the garota in the middle, the one would won't scoot over to make room for me to sit, started to clap to celebrate our departure. She was looking at me and nodding her head.

Yikes! I'd been told it wasn't good. Glad I skipped the place.

I have not been there in years. I used to go there after riding my bike in the back hills. Twice I found the same part had fallen off my bike after parking it at Solarium. I highly suspect that someone was removing the part, which is very expensive in Rio.

That's a shame. Solarium used to be my favorite 7-8 years ago, but it seems it's not really worth the commute these days.

Solarium seems to get a hot streak going for as much as a few months - or as little as a few weeks - about every two years or so. The last time it's been really good was at the end of 08/early 09. I'm sure it will continue to have it's ups and downs, but like you said, the commute is a bit long and there's nothing else close by. If you go there and it's a dud, you've wasted R$30-40 in taxi fare and some valuable time.

Even the infrequent times that it has been good though, I've just never really cared for the whole setup out there.

It's worth the trip if Nicky's working.
