This is my new favorite restaurant in Rio. It's on Rua Barão de Iguatemi, 379 in Praça da Bandeira. PH 2273-1035. The food is sensational here. They had the best Barbecue ribs I ever had. And if you're into beer, they have the best international selection I've ever seen along with brazilian beers I've never heard of. Couple of things, you WILL need a reservation. And as a bonus, after the satisfying meal it's only a five minute walk to Vila Mimosa. No, really.

Thanks for the tip. Always on the lookout for a good restaurant close to VM

If you like beef ribs, there is a place near 40 Graus (same street) in Lapa called Gargalos. They brought a huge slab of ribs that I just kept eating because they were so good.
I doubt I would make a special trip there, but if I was going out with a girl in Lapa to one of the clubs I would go there before for some dinner. They have other good churassco meats and the prices are more than reasonable.

What is Vila Mimosa?

Its the red light district in Rio catering toward the local, semi-impoverished population. I have never been there so this is sort of a portege/birdlips type post as far as experience goes but I have heard its pretty gross. Very cheap and very unsanitary. Some people apparently enjoy it though.

Tuanis - There is an entire section posted on Rio, titled "Vila Mimosa" on this board if you are interested in getting more details, including maps. As indicated above, it is not a destination for everyone, however, for those that regularly come to Rio it is a change of pace from the typical main gringo scene. And 'yes' fun can be had...speaking from experience....
