I forgot to post these at the time, but here are a few pics on a weekday, at 3:00 PM, when a Brasil world cup game was about to start.

Those are amazing pics. I cant think of anything else that would clear the city that way.Hollywood could have shot a film there that day.

It was surreal. I got off the Metro around 2:55, five minutes until kick-off, and there were a few TVs set up at a few botecas on Rua Alfandegas for people to sit and watch. They were crowded, but other than that, it was a complete ghost town. All the shops and restaurants were closed, and nobody was on the street. You can't quite see in the pictures, but the buses were completely empty, as were the taxis.
A lot of the taxiestas have small TV/DVD combos now, so the few that were out were actually watching the game - while driving, of course. Safety first is their motto
