There is a shared taxi that charges 13,000 per person and takes 4 into the City. It will drop you off near Poblado Ave or take you right into centro.

Will it drop at Mansion?

By the way, thanks for answering my question.!

Spend the 55k and go door to door private taxi by yourself. I mean all of your important belongings will be with you and you are the most vulnerable to and from the airport. Do you need a few good numbers?

Mansion said they would probably send Hector.

Got a different option?

Thanks.

Its very safe but they usually won't go off course so you will need another taxi for about 6,000. You will save about 30,000.

Are taxies at airport generally safe?

By JIMMYDR on Sunday, January 23, 2011 - 09:27 am:  Edit

Yes, all the taxis are safe at the airport.

Make sure you get a taxi waiting in the cue that says RIONEGRO on the side and don't go with one that just drives up to you or you can ask an airport official or transito if there is one standing by for a Taxi "seguro".

I always ask the dispatcher.

Mansion recommended driver wants $40 US.

From what I read, that could be somewhat expensive.

By Sobe9ball on Sunday, January 23, 2011 - 12:51 pm:  Edit

Thats a gingo price of about 70,000cop as compared to the sticker price of 55,000cop, so essentially your going to save about $8-$9 taking a taxi.

Make sure you have the directions because most drivers won't know where the Mansion is because its on a side street. Bring the number so the driver can call if he needs to.

Hector is the man! Total stand up guy and a nice conversation during the drive. You can't go wrong with him. Spend the money and buy the piece of mind.

Totally agree on Hector! Excellent driver and speaks excellent English.

Hector is the guy, but very expensive.

1, $40 US in each direction,

2. my experience is 2 weeks ago.

3. I suggest you use jut get a radio taxi at the airport,

4. On your way to the city from airport, get the cell phone # of the driver, and call him before you leave o go back to the airport.

5. The day before you want to leave for the airport, car the taxi driver.

Hector is a nice guy, but he and his buddies, are JUST NOT WORTH WHAT THEY CHARGE.

Hector is flat out the best. Yes, he charges 70,000 pesos for the ride to the airport which can include up to four customers for the price. But, he speaks english, is always on time and knows Medellin like the back of his hand. He also has worked at the Mansion since it's beginning so he's totally reliable.

He will be moving to Connecticut soon. Maybe he can pick you up at JFK, or BDL.

By Bedouin on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 - 08:21 am:  Edit

Now we are talking about an expensive cab ride.

Moving to Conn. - now that's a hellova transition. Poor guy.

By Majormajor on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 - 04:37 am:  Edit

On the way to the mansion from MDE, he told me that he used had family in Conn. I think he said that his father owner a Supermarket, or something like that.

He said that he had about 6 months until he gets his resident visa, and that he is going to go to work for his father.

Don't remember if he said he was taking a family or not.

Anyway, he was a nice guy, and I wish him well.
