One day last trip, I was feeling really beat up, so I needed to relax. And just relax. Off to Banos Turcos Palace I went.
The place really is a palace: Everything is neat & clean, there are a million employees, even more towels than employees, and everything works.
It started with the guy taking my clothes away and hanging them up -- no lockers here. The steam room was steamy, with fresh eucalyptus. The dry/hot room (which had an inner, hotter, room) was huge, clean, and had a large TV for watching soccer (or telenovas, or whatever). When I laid down in the rest area, the towel boy cane and wrapped me, mummy-like, in a half-dozen towels. It was all top-notch.
The place has every type of facility: pool, jacuzzi, restaurant, bar service, facials, haircuts (they will even dye your hair), manicures, laundry service. It's all there, and you just have to snap your fingers.
All this luxury comes with a price; this is the most expensive Banos Turcos I have visited (there are few more costly ones in town, but I haven't been to them). The entrance fee is 55 Soles (38 all day Tuesday and 33 for 3 hours on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday during the daytime). The massages are 50 soles for 45 minutes or 60 soles for an hour plus tip... everything is higher-priced than most places. On a previous visit a year ago, I found the frozen lemonade to be both delicious and reasonably-priced (about 10 soles for a liter).
Speaking about the massages, to book one you go to the towel counter where there is a huge white board listing all the available masseuses, and their available times. You make an appointment, and they come and find you when it is your turn.
The massages take place in one of two shared areas, so no hanky-panky is going on anywhere. My masseuse (a senora named Maritza) did an excellent job, actually paying attention to where I told her the sore spots were. She more than earned her 25 sol propina.
After my massage, I showered, had them bring me my clothes, got dressed, and paid. There were no surprises at checkout. I *think* that they accept credit cards.
