why do you want to go to Vila Mimosa? If you want to take a girl from there home, it will cost you the same as calling an agency. Probably 100 R$. The girls have short time mentality there.
But, if someone has different experience, let me know.
I went a few times at Friday/Saturday night, did not like the crowd. Years ago when I liked some visits and even did an occasional girl I went like Saturday afternoon, when it was nearly empty.
I might join someone if you want to go to VM. But I don't think I will go there often .....
By Jrsx on Friday, March 26, 2004 - 07:44 am: Edit |
As Iggy states Vila Mimosa is about a 5 minute walk from the Sao Cristovao subway station. You will need to switch subway trains at Estacio. The map I am posting shows Vila Mimosa as a solid red line and the walking route as a dashed red line. Where you see a sharp right hand turn on the walking route you will crossing some railway lines on a steel pedestrian bridge. Don't take this information as a recommendation. I have only been there once and the whole area gives me the creeps.

Gotta love a place completely surrounded by railroad tracks!

Looks like a shotgun bar, one way in and one way out. Not for me, I will take SOG's advice on the hole in the wall places downtown.

Hey, JRSX, cool map, where did you get it?
Damned place is hard enough to find, even cabbies sometimes have to ask directions. But something´s off, I think.
VM is a one-way street. If the entrance is the left-hand end of that solid red line, there should be the ability to make a left turn at the other end. Whenever I´ve left the place, the cab took a left turn at the end of the block. Or is that the entrance on the left? Last thing I recall is an underpass (where cops are always parked), which I think of as the entrance to the zone, then a lot of turns.
By Tight_fit on Friday, March 26, 2004 - 08:38 pm: Edit |
The section is from a huge Rio map that comes in an Adobe pdf document. I've forgotten when I downloaded my copy. Maybe Jrsx remembers. Here is an overview of Rio with a bubble text showing where VM is. Copacabana is way down to the right. I hope I didn't resize my picture too small. If this doesn't work I'll redo it in a larger version. The actual map on Adobe can be super enlarged right down to the actual street level.

Ok – as a first time Rio american white-boy, and obvious first time Villa Mimosa monger – I have to share my recent (just got back today) experiences.
First let me preface with the fact that I’ve visited similar brothel villages in Phnom Penh, Koh Kong, Sihanoukville, Thailand, and Calcutta – so I’m not saying I’m superman or anything – just that I’ve had my share of experiences in the ‘low-end’ places..
I’m 32, white as a fish belly (I loathe the sun), blond long hair, and fair eyed – so to say I don’t fit in with the local crowd is an understatement.
I admit I had much trepidation (after reading all your posts) about my ride into Villa – I made sure to make the sign of the cross while passing the Jesus statue, roll up my windows as I passed through the surrounding neighborhood, and with much broken conversation let my taxi driver know I wasn’t born yesterday..
Down the street I go (and by the way it’s not a dead end street – although it is one-way) I hop out jump on the first porch and watch a bunch of young Brazilian guys taking turns french kissing and fingering the absolutely fat lady sitting on a stool about 2 feet from me – fantastic fun.
In six days I returned to Villa 4 times and probably spent 3 – 4 hours each bout – arriving around 6 – 8 and leaving around 10 – midnight (and heading to Help disco).. Villa Mimosa is one of the best places I’ve ever been hands down.. IF you like this kind-of thing. Personally I just dig getting a few of those tall beers down my throat and then wandering up and down the aisles shopping for whatever takes my fancy – a luscious Moorish girl, a bleached & tan lined fat ass/titted chick, or a slim no chest waif girl – it’s all to be had here and it’s dirt cheap.
TRUE – the rooms are typical brothel shacks – (better than the rice field brothels in Cambodia) but the sheets were brought in by the girls (and were clean) the girls themselves seemed pretty well clean (but uh.. no I wouldn’t go down on one) anal, condomless, bbbj, whatever you want is on offer (yes I use condoms for sex). I don’t exactly have the stamina to visit a coupla apt brothels, hit Mimosa and orgasm 5 times in 4 hours and then visit Help.. BUT I did have a great time just hanging out with the girls fooling around and sticking it in – variety is key for me – especially after the long droughts in America.
I didn’t find Villa Mimosa to be dangerous at all, sometimes I got a few looks, but as I’ve found in most sanuk venues – we’re all here for fun. A few groups were obviously drunk as shit – but hey it’s easy to avoid. I agree with the above posters that it would just be asking for it to try to walk out of this neighborhood at night. If for no other reason – after 10pm it gets really empty and you’re a great target.
I also visited several of the upscale termes and while I had a great experience with one of the girls – overall I had better experiences (or more honest) with Mimosa girls. My advice – is if you take a little care, and don’t believe the hype you can have a great time in Mimosa – just PLEASE don’t overpay by miles..

Just read thru the rest of the thread again - I dunno if things have changed - but I'm pretty well sure I hit all the open spaces (even down around the end corner) and there absolutely were NO underage girls here. A few 18 - 20 maybe but nothing glaringly obvious. I mean - you will be able to tell (and avoid) a 15 yo easy enough.
Also - the taxi ride (meter) is 25 - 30 from Help, and it's best to try to negotiate a flat 20 fare or RT if you can hurry. I never had a problem catching another taxi back from VM, and no one tried to rip me off.

Here's my two bits:
Went to Rio during the period 16 - 20 Feb...second trip...out of the four nights, I spend three in VM....I believe VM is not dangerous, provided you visit (at least the first couple of times) with a knowledgeable group, or a local. TIP: I met a guy named 'Montana' hanging around the restaurant by Help, and after sizing him up, ventured off to VM. Montana claims he is a tour guide; however he is not as reliable as other tour guides mentioned on these boards.
Bottom line: Although VM is not the best option, it is indeed an option--especially for us mongers who lurk around Help late at night trying to scope out who to scoop up--and wasting hours in the process. You can go to VM, perhaps test-drive a garota at $R25 for 20 minutes, and possibly take one home for the night at a significant cost savings. I paid as low as $R80 for all night, and as high as $R140. As you know, a good number of the garotas will leave VM around 11 or 12 p.m. and head towards Help to earn 5 or 6 times the amount they will make at VM! You can make your deal with the garota, say by 10 or 11 in the evening, return to your apartment/hotel back in Copa, and have a 'full' all-nighter--not the 'all-nighter' beginning a 2 or 3 a.m. Montana the guide helped me make the deal, as my Porteguese is limited--I bought him a beer and a $R25 session for his 'guidance', and he was very happy with that.

I'd read in other posts that the girls at Villa Mimosa, Rio, were only available "in house" or at best would only accompany you to a very local motel. However, one of Moondog's photos shows a nice looking girl in a good hotel.
Given that Villa Mimosa sems to provide economical mongering, has anyone had experience of getting a good girl from there and taken her back to their hotel for a night? (or a couple of days?)
Been to Brazil once before in 2002, usually do Thailand. Looking forward to Brazil again late April 05.

Ahh good ol VM, having a guide there can help a lot. It is really a fun place, however I recommend caution on bringing those girls to your Hotel rooms or appartments. Have some bad experience from one of them.

Visited VM on a Friday and arrived 6:00pm. The place was not so active at that time but things continued to steadily pick up as the night progressed.
I rented a car for several days as I had some plans that would take me back forth to Barra for a few days and easily found VM using the map provided in this message chain. Basically go to centro, take 'President Vargas' RD until you come to the section with all the overpasses. Go past the overpass and take the first right.... you are there.
While there was not too much action at that time of day in the street, there was plenty in the little side bars. I walked through most of them and they are small bars everywhere. The quality was so so, but I did find a find a couple of diamonds in the rough.
I entered one place that was playing loud music and had one hottie dancing. She ended up sitting with me and we both drank a bunch of beer. She loved everything American and spoke a little English. She put some money into the juke box and selected Peter Frampton, Phil Collins/Genesis, etc. Not exactly what I would have expected... We DFK'd like crazy and hung out for several hours. I had other plans for the night so I did not sample anymore, but had an overall great time. I gave her R$20 for her time.
Her name was Erika and she wanted me to leave with her so bad.... she also invited me to a party at her house. She told me she was 31 years old, but had the body of a 16 year old cheerleader with long, curly hair down to her ass. Sexy as hell.
Erika followed me into the road, where we continued to make-out like crazy. Obviously some Brazilian were watching and grinning from ear to ear. As soon as I stepped away about 50' they were all over her..... pretty amusing.
I ended up leaving around 10:00pm.
I never felt uncomfortable, or that the locals were starring at me. Yes, the place is not exactly nice but a good time is most definitely possible there. So, take a trip of the beaten path, open your mind, bring a little cash, and you will (depending on your personality and expectation) have a good time.

Marv -- I gotta hand it to you, you have a big pair of balls. You went to VM by yourself in a rented car, got half blasted, then walked alone back to your vehicle at 10 at night unaccompanied.
The only thing I can figure that saved your ass was you weren't wearing the t-shirt with the target painted on it. You know the one I mean, the one that says "I'm a gringo. Drug me, beat me, rob me and leave me in an alley."
You violated most every rule of staying safe in Rio and walked away smiling. Goddam.

I often do... I am just a lucky bastard :-)
Against all odds, having spent almost 6 months total here in Rio over the last 14 months, never had a problem of any kind besides being overcharged a little by a taxi.
Knock on wood, or whatever else.... hopefully that strain of luck continues.
I did leave the white tennis shoes and gringo uniform at home for my trip to VM.... maybe that helped :-)

Lovingmarvin,
Now you tell me! On my last visit there in October with Felix and Don's driver, Roberto, I wore a college tee-shirt with William & Mary written all over it and tassel loafers. Needless-to-say, I did not blend in too well.
By any chance did you dine at the " Culinary Court?"

The burgers at Culinary Court, birthplace of favela haute cuisine, are "amazing" (ambiguity intentional). Hard to choose between there and Satyricon.

If you're having possibly rotten pussy for sex, having possibly rotten food for dinner is the way to top it off!
Mmmmm, favelaburgers.......BD, I know you're a West Coast guy, but do you remember the actual advertising tagline that Schaefer Beer (Brooklyn's finest) used to use?
“Schaefer is the one beer to have when you’re having more than one”
VM's tagline should be "Villa Mimosa is the one dining spot to visit if you're trying to lose weight"
By Jaguar on Friday, December 16, 2005 - 12:05 pm: Edit |
Cat,
I lost 6 pounds after my first dinning experience at the Culinary Court. Then on another trip, Don convinced me to have garlic bread there and I quickly peeled off another 4 pounds.
Now that I think about it, I lost more weight there than on Weight Watchers.

Sf4dfish,
Do you mean next time in Brazil or next time in Vila Mimosa? If you're referring to VM, I rather pass on anything made with water ice there. With my luck, they would use gutter water ice or, perhaps ice from the adjacent meat distribution center, and I'd never leave the bathroom. I don't want to fuck up any more bathrooms in Brazil!

Goodbehavior - If I am here - which I probably will be - I'll go with you to VM. I do have a girlfriend curfew, but can always swing a little safado time.
Remember your Brazilian day time/favela uniform - flip flops, with tank top, and board shorts. I know that is dressy - if you can swing it and you are in halfway decent shape then no shirt is preferred to blend in with the locals.

Took the bus for Maracana from Zona Sul. Jumped off at the VM station under the bridge. Walked down the dark street, busted a left, blam.
Dont wear your Havi's, wear tennis. The VM streets are wet and dirty, especially at night. Beer, urine, and/or needles could be on the ground.
Definately, a must see. First timers should be guided to the area. Don't be surprised to see preg garotas working. Good hunting. Valeu!

I have been to Rio several times but never gathered enough courage to venture out to VM. I will be going back next month (April 24 - 30) and this time I really want to see what the scene is like at VM. It is not that I want a cheap pop but more of a curiosity. Is anyone around the same time I will be who have been to VM and willing to give a newbie a tour? Or even if you have not gone before, anyone willing to form a group to go together (I understand that at VM there is definitely safety in numbers).

No one should look to me for advice. I am no expert and will be the first to admit at times I get a little reckless. But frankly I felt far safer walking around VM at night than I would walking around Copacabana after dark. VM is DEFINITELY not for everyone but to me the locals all seemed relaxed, I didn't see anything "bad"® happen in three nights out there which is more than I can say for Copacabana. I'm not saying it is totally safe but as far as unsafe, it seems way down the list. The crowd was quite festive until about midnight. After midnight there was a palatable change in atmosphere and I played things much more cautiously but still no trouble. I was alone and am blond haired and don't speak one damn word of Portuguese but got along just fine. No one really paid me much attention or looked at me like I was out of the ordinary.

Just went here tonight and all I gotta say is if you visit Brazil and don't at least have a walk thru this zone you're truly missing out on a sight to see. It's like a mini Tijuana meets a soi in Pattaya with a dash of Bourbon Street... It's downright dirty, smelly, and low class. Great stuff!

i checked out right before i left.. basically, its a mini-tj scene.. one street, but mini bars and clubs blaring music all day and night..
the rates are dirt cheap, it comes out to 1R per minute with a girl.. i got two girls for 25 minutes for a total of 50R.. the accomodations are like the $5 tj hotels-- rundown, small bed, not the cleanest place in the world.. One small hightlight is that they have fans in each room.. also , you may want to check out the scene early, like 2pm -7pm, some really hot local girls will go there to work.. Bascially they lie to their parents about working at "the dentist office" and go to vm to make some cash..

I agree GCL's link captures VM, but while there are many garotas there that are similar to those in the pics, there usually are some that are much better.

Gcl,
Interestingly in the last photo on this site, they show you a picture of a platform bed. What they don't show you is that someone is under the bed inside the platform and your clothes are neatly folded and delicately placed safely on the floor. As you get into the heat of the moment, someone opens a concealed trap door and steals your money.
Of course, I don't know this from personal experience, someone told me.

Recently went to VM for the 1st time. Took the metro from S. Campos (Linha 1) to Estacio where I transferred to Linha 2 train to arrive at Sao Cristovao. Walked around for half hr looking for VM, got lost. Saw 2 garotas slipping thru a cut hole in a chain-linked fence near a metal pedestrian overpass. Entry to the pedestrian overpass was locked. I followed the garotas across the railroad tracks to the other side - VM! Definitely not the Copacabana Palace but interesting place, didn't find anyone I wanted to fuck.

I haven't been there for at least a couple of years, but when there I did find a few diamonds in the rough (although outnumbered by dogs)and suspect it is still possible. OTOH, there's not much one can do about condition of the rooms.
By Brazil_Specialist on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 - 04:26 am: Edit |
I suppose nothing has changed in the last few years. Condition of the rooms is deplorable, disgusting.
If you go in the very early afternoon, who knows, you can find reasonably clean rooms.
Even my method for R$ 10 brothels, bringing a towel to dry off and a beach towel to lie on, does not work in Vila Mimosa. First, there are no showers offered. Second, there still is the filthy cum covered floor to deal with.
Also, I strongly advise against walking to Vila Mimosa. I would never do that, especially at night, especially looking like a gringo.
It is probably reasonably safe in Vila Mimosa, but I don't trust the way to there. Could be that the mafia protects the access ways too, but I have no info on that.
But I heard of occasional killings at Vila Mimosa, but that usually involves people who created trouble and were killed by mafia security. Don't get rowdy and drunk there!!!
If you pick up girls there, better check the ID, especially if you take them away from there. I got accosted by security there for checking ID, so even that is a problem.
My recommendation: save money and go to the R$ 10, R$ 20, R$ 30 downtown brothels instead of VM. Cleaner, cheaper. Sure, less girls to choose from.
