Hi,
Thank you Dr.J, Wiggsone, Chicachaser. You guys have helpmed me out a lot.
I am in the UK & am going on my first mongering trip to SA. I usually stick to the UK but lets face it, the GBP isnt what it used to be.
I will be there feb 2013. I will be in bogota, medellin and Cartagena. I wont be going to Cali at all. I know it is a major oversight but c'est la vie my friends.
A few questions
1 - In bogota i will be staying at a company apartment near Calle 127 close to the unicentro mall. Is this a good base? I saw a map on CH and it suggested a few good MPs in an around this area.
2 - I speak no spanish and if i goto clubs like casanova, Zhivago, loutron, LDV etc. what are the chances of picking someone up ? I know i should really learn at least a few words but my work like isnt 9-5, its more like 5-9.
3 - does anyone know a good cabbie in bogota ? someone who speaks english and is trustworthy ?
4 - I hear a lot about TONY in CTG. a scam artist, "pure filth" as someone called him BUT what if we just deal with him for the ladies only ?
Lets face it, we all were newbies once. Questions are dumb only in retropsect.
Regards and in anticiation.

You will still have a great time without spanish, its just that you would have a much better time if you did. Now if you are wanting to chase non-pros, forget about it.
Tony in Cartagena really isn't that bad, just make sure you know the going rates and dont be afraid to speak up if he tries to fuck you.
For Bogota, you might want to PM Latinalover. He has the city wired.
Good luck and have fun, AZ

As I mentioned in the PM you sent me, I personally think you will be fine in the well known places that cater to tourists. They are more expensive and do not have the best reputations among people with a lot of experience, but for someone getting to know the place, you should have a fine time and you will feel more comfortable because they are nicer.
You might want to consider writing some names/addresses (including where you're staying) on business card size notecards or larger so you can hand them to taxi drivers if you need to, but most likely they will know where to take you if you stick to well known places.
I would avoid any smaller or budget places until you return with at least basic to intermediate spanish speaking abilitiy.
