I will be in Bogota for several days in early July.
Are there any recommendations for specific casas or specific strip clubs based on recent experiences that can be shared?
Even though its Bogota, are there any hints on how to find GFEs
there?
With respect to cities like those described by FBLA2, which are most accessible from Bogota and secure?
Thank you in advance for any help that can be
provided.

Any major city is accessible from Bogota by plane.
Medellin is a "safe" bus ride from Bogota. It is safe assuming you can get around well and take all of the necessary precautions. There are several of these daytime "house" places, but none that I remember had any sort of distinguishing name to identify them. Your best bet is to find an honest taxi driver who knows where these places are. Come to think of it, several of the night clubs were solely identified by their address and didn't really have any name.
I warn you that once you experience colombia, you'll never be impressed by Tijuana ever again.
Strikingviking,
You've got balls like no other!
I'm assuming that you're doing sort of a lap around the coast of south america? If you are doing a clockwise rotation, you would be starting around Cartagena, passing Barranquilla and Santa Marta towards Caracas, Venezuela. If you were going counter-clockwise you would be heading towards the border with Ecuador, where a major part of the fighting takes place. Bogota is in the dead center of the country way up in the mountains, and you would most likely be crossing through FARC territory if you approached the city from anywhere except the road between Medellin and Bogota. I don't know anything about panama, but maybe you could jump the Canal riding backwards like the guy did with the great wall of China just recently. Maybe that would get enough attention to bring the olympics to panama.. haha yeah right.

Dude, you are setting youself up. You are OUT OF YOUR SKULL to even drive through colombia. I warn you, you are gonna be an easy target and I hate to say this, but there is a 75% chance you will get into trouble. I say dont do it. I met these Australian dudes that drove their bikes down from California through Central America to Panama, and because of the Darien Gap wih all the swamps, they put their nice BMW bikes on a Ferry that left to Cartagena from Panama. They were detained by customs or aduana for 8 hours because they needed to declare their bikes and pay import tax. They were lucky they got released, but that was in 1994. Aduana is the least of your worries, you will be going into combat zones where roadblocks are frequent and years ago, if you had a nice car you would be stopped. These days EVERYONE is stopped, they dont care. And if you are holding a US passport, dude, you are gonna be the FARCs bitch. I remind you, three US citizens were murdered there a couple years back, and a part US citizen part Colombian citizen was held captive for years.
I would just check Colombia out via plane out of the window from city to city. Thats the only way to see those awesome mountains.
As for the other users that are asking for places, the best way is to know someone there or find an honest REGISTERED cabbie and hire him for the day or night. No matter what private house you visit, it should be a GFE since all Colombian women are so pleasing..
I am writing this from the internet cafe next to the Blue Marlin. Boy oh boy I got stories to tell, I STRONGLY recommend learning Spanish and your mileage will go a long way... I hooked up with a Bi costa rican chick and I will tell you later about it in the Costa Rica thread...This experience is as good as the one I told about earlier on this thread in Colombia. I thought I would never match it, but I did.
Later people.

Is Avianca still offering the airfare deal for flying incountry?
| By Gator on Monday, November 29, 2004 - 07:46 am: Edit |
For the x/mas season don't look for any real deals BUT:
Miami/Medellin $295 USD dates 01 February 2005 - 02 March 2005
Miami/Cali $315 USD dates 01 January 2005
- 31 January 2005
Miami/Barranquilla $330 USD dates 01 February 2005 -02 March 2005
New York?cali or Medellin $478 USD 01 February 2005- 02 March 2005
All fares are plus taxes
There are others but this will give you and idea. Here is there web site in English: http://www.avianca.us/contenido/articulo.asp?chapter=37&article=375
With Avianca it always pays to call the 800 number because at time they will have even lowere prices than these.
Good luck
A la orden

Colombia discover pass info:
-Buy thru Avianca (prior to departure)
-Fly to a total of 3 cities, if arriving into Bogota w Avianca $180, arriving thru another airline $220.
-Can increase to 4 or 5 cities for an additional 60 or 80 bucks.
Sounds reasonable...unless locals in Colombia can tell us that you can get cheaper in country?
