1 block from hotel Rio Roiss, excellent juices, know you favorite fruit name in portuguese as impossible to decipher.
Sucos is 2.20R, try the cacau c/ morango for those liking strawberry juices.
There is also this energy drink called Acai, 2.30R, add ginseng for 1R. Local drink made of ??? it looks brown like chocolate but tastes nothing like chocolate.
They also have sandwiches ok for afternoon snacks but not recommended for dinner as I got thirsty when eating them at night, try their filet mignon sandwich con salada for 4.80R.

For cheap eats, the filet mignon sandwich can't be beaten.

I have to agree about Sucos.I ate there almost every day.All those fries can get a bit old but tha sandwiches and the drinks were great. Can't beat those prices.

Just somthing this thread reminded me of. Filet mignon seems to simply mean steak, of whatever cut, in Brazil; rather than what we think of it.

Great place to eat, was first taken there by a garota after the beach, had a chicken sandwich with fries, very good. Didn`t know what juice to get so ordered the cacua c/ marango recommended by Athos, it was very good. Went back a few more times.

Glad to see someone else liked the strawberry mix. Did you try any other one?
I just read Acai is a tropical purplish fruit, looked like chocolate. I thought it was an energy drink.

I tried to look for this place last time I was there. If I'm standing at the corner where RR is and facing the beach where do I turn?
By Youngtom on Sunday, March 24, 2002 - 01:11 pm: Edit |
Take a right outside the RR then another right on the 1st street. Walk to Ave Nossa Copacabana & you are there. It is on the corner - caddy corner to Dunkin Donuts.
By Youngtom on Sunday, March 24, 2002 - 09:06 pm: Edit |
From looking at a map it looks like it is located at the intersection of Ave Nossa Copacabana and Rua Miguel Lemos.

I seem to be visualizing it now. Is it one of those open air juica bars?
By Youngtom on Monday, March 25, 2002 - 08:35 am: Edit |
Exactly - Sucos means Juices in Portuguese. It is kinda funny with all the great food in Rio that the food establishment that we have the longest discussion about is a Juice joint. Great cheap eats though.

Athos-- Didn`t try any others, wanted to but wasn`t sure what else to get. Liked the strawberry juice so much didn`t want to try something else and be disappointed, each time back i would get 2 glasses. Saw people eating with spoons out of tall glasses something that looked like chocolate ice cream but very dark in color, have no idea what it was but they seemed to enjoy it.

The chocolate looking thing was Acai, Brazilian fruit. I liked it a lot in the morning to give me energy or so I thought. You can add ginseng to it.
I'll try other ones besides the macau if I can translate them.

Athos-- Will try Acai next time back, if you try some other good juices let us know.

I love this place especially when they will exchange your 50R bill without blinking.
Try the Fruta Conda one of my favorite and the guarana.
Fruta forte, purplish color, is a bit too sweet so not for everyone.
Clorophyl is a bit sweet too but contains ginseng and muira puama.
Coco especial, very sweet milk coconut.
Abicaxi was just that, pineapple.

Acai has no translation as it is a local amazon fruit. Looks like chocolate but is an energy fruit.
They also have energy drinks made mostly of guarana. Coffee is excellent. My favorite in last trip was abacaxi, fruta conde and morango.
If you don't want sugar added, you need to ask for "sem asucar".
They open at 10:00 and close at 2:00 in the morning.

Ricky,
Good ideal to list some of the translations of juices. I hope some of the members with portuguese experience could finish it.
The juice list along with the Rio cheat sheet would be good carry along tools.
I use to stop by there just about everyday on the way to the mercado to buy bottled water and snacks for my hotel. The coco especial was very good. The chicken salad sandwich was excellent. The french fries were horrible because they never cooked it enough. I like my fries well done. Does anyone know how to say "can you cook the fries well done"?

I LOVED THIS PLACE!
Every neighborhood in Rio has numerious juice places, and this one is pretty good. I had at least one açai with banana, often with granola, each day ...some days two! And I love getting my morning protein fix with a filet de chicket sandwhich (dressed, r$6).
The staff there is fast they run a nice business.
By Hector on Tuesday, June 03, 2003 - 03:15 pm: Edit |
It's good, but a bit more expensive than other places nearby.
By Flmonger on Wednesday, June 04, 2003 - 08:01 am: Edit |
which one is your favorite, in this immediate area?
i recognized that it was maybe 20-25% more expensive, but i thought the quality was quite high with my frango, and that they put banana in my açai at no additional cost.
i had a corner place in ipa my previous stay that i thought was better, so i know kice is not anything unique...

Are there any magic potions that anyone would recommend after a good session???
By Athos on Tuesday, June 07, 2005 - 09:01 pm: Edit |
acai twice a day. Try it with guarana, honey, cashew or granola, add ginseng.
They sell it in suco or puree, go for the puree.
