Music for the Colombianas

DJ Mateo esta en La Casa

This post is in response to those who have inquired about what music to get for your cartagena trip.

Just took two trips to Cartagena and have pretty much got the music dialed in for those of you who are interested in enhancing your experience with your chica. For those who aren't you may not know what you are missing. My recent trip with Bigbob and Treeshark proved just how much more fun you can have with the right music. Big Bob's chica La Mamita would pop into a belly dance anywhere anytime whenever we would play Ojos Asi. Como baila tu chica Roberto! Que rico!

For those of you who have no interest in the effect the music has on your Colombiana then have a good time in!

Some advice fromDJ Mateo (El Mono):

1)music is the backbone of a good time in cartagena (and most of Latin Culture). The better the music, the more the girls loosen up and start having a good time. Play it on the beach, at the pool, and in your room. Better music means the music they like; not your old fogey Fleetwood Mac or Led Zeppelin 4 or surf punk dude!. It means stuff the chicas want to dance to and that they know and are familiar with.

2) Want your girl to do a strip tease and then a lap dance and then whatever you want while she is having a blast? Give her a couple of rum and coke's and play some Champeta. You will likely be amazed at what she will do especially if she is a Costena. El Gato volador!!

3) Want a colombian Milkshake? Yep play some Champeta while getting busy. What is a Colombian Milkshake? Ask Big Bob. Or ask your chica. If she don't know, find a chica that does.

4) Always always always play "Ojos Asi" by Shakira when you first bring the Chica to your room. Trust me on this one. Hit play and watch for results.

5)The local Vallenato is good stuff for the chiva's and for the beach bands, but the chicas like latin pop.

6) Like any pop the favorites change over time but the hits seem to stay on top a little longer in Colombia than they do in the states.

7) A lot of the younger chicas say that they like trance.Especially chicas from Medellin and Bogota ( The Calenas like Salsa). What they call trance is basically any form of DJ club mix. House, jungle, drum and bass. If you don't know what that is go into the club Amnesia and blow some brain cells on X. Don't play it. It was my experience that the chicas that liked "trance" were the least passionate and most hard core or disinterested of all. It is basically gringo and euro music and is the same shit you will hear at any disco anywhere in the world

El Mono's Cartagena chica Hit List for April and May:

1) Ojos Asi--Shakira

2)El Ultimo Adios-Paulina Rubia

3)Tabaco y Chanel--Bacilos

4)Fruta Fresca- Carlos Vives

5)Lo Hare Por Ti-Paulina Rubia

6)Y Yo Sigo Aqui-Paulina Rubia

7)Lets Get Loud--Jennifer Lopez

8) Livin La Vida Loca- Ricky Martin

9) Tu Amor Eterno- Carlos Vives

10) Dimelo-- Marc Anthony

These songs were chosen by employing the singing rule when playing my own CD's and listening in the clubs.

THE SINGING RULE: when you hear a song and the chicas's start singing to it and start moving like they wanna dance immediately find out the name of the song and who the singer is.

A word about Champeta:

Champeta is THE music to dance to with your chicas in the clubs if you don't dance salsa in the local side to side style. It is also the music to play if you want your chicas to get nasty in your room.
You can dance to some of it similarly to the way you would dance in any top 40 or R&B club in the world. Basically just shake your booty a lot- and I mean a lot. There is something special about watching your chica moving that culo costena to El Gato Volador on the coffee table in your room knowing that in a few minutes you gonna be tearin off a piece o that!

Champeta Hits

1) El Gato Volador
2) El Perro Gua- Guau
3) Rio Babilonia
4) Braulia
5) El Enguayabo
6) Paola

The good thing about getting a supply of Champeta is that you can ask Pablo the big beach tout behind the Las Velas to get you a Champeta compilation and he will get you one for 20 k + 5k tip. It is a burn and will have all the best hits. I bought 2 Cd's from him on his recomendation and they were perfect. Tell hin that El mono Mateo recommended him on the internet.

Last Thoughts:

The Must HaveCd's

1) Paulina Rubia-The New Cd (Paulina)
2) A Chapeta Compilation
3) Donde Estan Los Ladrones by Shakira
4) El Amor de mi Tierra- Carlos Vives

Just remember: its all good.....but sometimes its better

Treeshark:::
I like doing the music thing.. makes the trip more fun.. Last two trips down took boom box with me. Try to spend between $40 and $50 on one and will leave with a chica to take care of for me.. yeah, right..Makes a nice present for a favorita..

Great thread AND post!

I would add Shakira's Suerte (hot now) and Ricardo Arjona (A Calena favorite!)

Oyos Asi WORKS! First cut on my personal burn.

Good info Treeshark. This post fits in the print and save for the next trip folder.

I love dancing to salsa, but....I quickly learned

With Columbiana's Champeta is definitely the way to some hot bumping and grinding on the dance floor or in the bedroom.

BTW Shakira's 'Suerte' is a great one to. One of my chica's dedicado to me because it talks about falling in love with foreign men.

I think after 4 years this thread could be updated a bit.

Gentlemen, it would behoove you not to underestimate the positive reaction girls will have if you are equipped with the right music.

First, it's a great icebreaker. I usually have my laptop w/DVD drive set up within easy viewing distance of a couch. I pop in a DVD, get the girl and myself something to drink, and then we get to know each other. I have some nice compact speakers that deliver terrific sound - needless to say the girls are impressed.

Eventually we adjourn into the bedroom, where I have my MP3 player ready to go - I have playlists ready to go. I find that sometimes the DVD player can be a distraction in the bedroom, so I opt for audio only.

What to play?

I've got about 10 DVDs that I bring with me. I haven't met a Colombiana yet who didn't love Juanes - so I have all three of his CDs, as well as a DVD with videos and a DVD of a live concert given in Chile earlier this year. These are all available on ebay, half.com or amazon.

Shakira has been waning a bit; some don't like her as much because she crossed-over to the Gringo side and sings in English, something that Juanes is dead-set against and has greatly contributed to his popularity. I think that’s going to change with Shakira’s new album, Fijacion Oral (Oral Fixation – hey, those Spanish lessons are starting to work!) which comes out on June 7th. Why? All the songs are in Spanish! She’s going back to her roots and I think the Colombianas will eat it up.

The CD also comes with a DVD – so I highly recommend you adding it to your collection.

Other artists who the Colombianas can’t get enough of: Paulina Rubio, Thalia, Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears. I have all there DVDs and the girls love ‘em.

To put my audio list together, I pop onto www.ritmosonlatino.com.

They list the top songs by country in Latin America.

As you can see by this week’s list, Shakira’s first single with Alejandro Sanz, “La Tortura” is making it’s mark. The video is pretty hot – I caught it on MTV Hits a couple days ago – in Spanish – the first time I’ve seen a video with Spanish lyrics on that channel.

Jesus, what's up with Bolivia? There still playing the Backstreet Boys!!!

Anyway, my sessions have gone to the next level since I've incorporated a background track. You'll be amazed by the results.

Damn, we talking pros (vs. nonpros) here? She'd have to be paying me before I would be willing to listen to Britney, let alone play it myself!

If I'm paying then it's my music.

I guess our tastes are quite different ...in music - certainly not in chicas based on your posts :-)

If I need to sacrifice my music tastes to achieve mood or various chica needs I use chill and other organic-infused electronic music (lounge).

I don't know - I've got no problem watching Britney videos.

And while I'd rather have some George Jones or Conway Twitty playing in the background, I don't think I'd get the same positive reaction from the girls.

Wallstreet--

I've found that vintage rock en espanol seems to work with a lot of chicas, like Soda Stereo, Los Prisioneros and Enanitos Verdes.

I usually listen to the spanish language music you have listed on your playlist anyway, so introducing it to a chica isn't necessarily a problem for me.

Good Advice.

Awe, depends on your situation... if you're attempting to influence your expensive hottie pro with rational that turning it to multiple days will make her worth it, or working a nonpro then I can agree with you (about needing music to contribute to a positive reaction) - thus my using any form of electronic music which I hate (but can almost tolerate the Chill genre).

On the other hand, if it's a TLN pick up - then I'm not willing to compromise on music and the champagne or chocolates or gifts or candles or something else will have to do it - play your GJ or Twitty :-)

Shakira's new video is hot. Too bad I don't understand the lyrics but video makes up for it. May be someone will translate the lyrics and put on the internet. Here is the link: http://www.shakira.com/video/Shakira_LaTorturaVidFull_300.asx

Is there any kind of music with a jazz sound the chicas like? I can at least enjoy the sound even if can't understand all the words?
