Thanks for the heads up on the Othon(s), Ardgneas and Thumper. I'm going to do more looking around.

By Turk5555 on Friday, January 24, 2003 - 08:09 pm:  Edit

I experienced the "stop that guy" before I got into an elevator the the Rio Othon Palace. I was just taking my Brasileira girlfriend to the swimming pool on the roof top. I wasn't even a guest of the ROP, but the clerks at the front desk thought so. I was escorted to the front desk where I was told I could not take my girlfriend into the hotel. I very diplomatically explained the situation to the guy in charge and he very meekly said "Okay, my apologies." He was genuinely embarassed. My girlfriend was embarassed as she is not a programa girl or terma girl. After this incident we went to the rooftop swimming pool two more times and never had a problem. Newbie mongers, I will say this once and only once, if you want to avoid this embarssing situation rent an apartment. I am glad I did. Contact BOBBY from Blame It On Rio. Bobby knows what you are in RIO for. He is a former monger himself, now happily married. Apartments offer have a liberal in-and-out policy with 24-hour security at the front desk. By American standards these apartments are generally not up to par, but very comfortable and serve their purpose very well. I hope this helps you all.

The Luxor Regente is garota friendly. If your girl has her ID and is over 18 the party is on. They charged me 50 real per overnight guest, and even did a little translation over the phone for me to set up a date.

By Fooledagain1 on Friday, June 13, 2003 - 09:52 am:  Edit

The Hotel Debret has informed Don today that it is no longer girl friendly. Anyone needing other accomodations weŽd be happy to help you out.

***Greasing the Wheels*** i.e.-tipping the people in the lobby.

Is is nessisary, does it help, will it solve problems before they may start, how much is a good amount?

*still confused as where to stay no that Debret is acting wierd*

By Seaman on Thursday, July 17, 2003 - 09:52 am:  Edit

greasing the wheels is useless in hotels that don't allow guests and unnecessary for those that do (you pay the guest fee instead), although an occasional doorman tip ain't a bad idea in any circumstance.

You can try the Princess Copacabana at www.promenade.com. Nice, new, American standard hotel, 2 blocks from Meia Pataca.

ditto above. just stayed there 2 weeks and great service ,new rooms with comfortable beds, breakfast[ i never made]. R60 girl charge but worth it compared to some apts in copa. try ipanema.com for best rates. bobby used to get great rates but both promenade[ the mgmt co] and ipa.com much less currently.definately would stay there again

By Mitchc on Friday, July 18, 2003 - 07:50 pm:  Edit

That's $20 extra every time you bring a girl up! That seems pricey.

By Sweetmesquite on Saturday, July 19, 2003 - 10:01 am:  Edit

debret was R50 for a lesser quality hotel.

By Macgyver22 on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 08:54 pm:  Edit

Since the Debret and Rio Rioss are not longer condusive to our activities, I'm looking for another place. After a bit of research, I think I've narrowed it down to either the Princess Copacabana or the Oceano Copacabana.

I know lots of people rave about aparments, and they are probably right, but I want to have the garota check in at the front desk for an added bit of security (Taxman's post was a bit scary).

Can anyone chime in about either of these places as far as girl fees, and overall niceness of the rooms?

By Fooledagain1 on Monday, July 21, 2003 - 05:11 am:  Edit

Mac-- As a added bit of seurity ???? What kind of security did the hotel provide for Taxman, he doesn`t answer the phone so they don`t bother to go check the room and just let the girl go without any contact with him. I`ve always like hotels for security but now believe apartments mightbe better, they lock on the inside with your key so the girl can`t get out without a key, just make sure you hide it well and as soon as you return to the room, but i quess if the drug is a truth drug your fucked either way. IMHO stick with girls in the clubs, stay away from girls you meet wandering around and don`t believe anything a complete stranger in a foriegn country tells you, always be suspisous of every story and look for incosistencies in their stories. For example, did Taxman look at her ID when she checked in the hotel to see if she was from Peru, did she have a passport from Peru.

By Macgyver22 on Monday, July 21, 2003 - 07:29 am:  Edit

Good point Fooledagain,

The Debret didn't help out Taxman at all (which is pretty shitty), but in general, it seems that they do help out - like some people wrote in post before with garotas saying "Oh, I can't go to that hotel...". It think it helps screen out some of the obvious troublemakers or ones that are under 18 (even if I checked their ID, I'd have no way of knowing if it was fake or not).

You do make a good point about being able to lock the door with a key on the inside, but if a garota turns physco in the room, I'd rather her be able to leave and have the front desk people worry about her (provided of course that they acually check on you...

By Coats001 on Monday, July 21, 2003 - 07:36 am:  Edit

The Debret has a key you can use to close the door from the inside.

By Sweetmesquite on Monday, July 21, 2003 - 12:57 pm:  Edit

mac- overall service at princess is great. security much better than debret. i like maid service and a desk to call if any problems occur. once toilet wouldn't flush and another day leak in bathroom . both fixed in 30 minutes or less. i went 3 days in an apt one trip with no hot water and landlord did not care.

By Cueball on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 - 02:33 am:  Edit

Taxman's story is pretty scary. I think in the future we should get to know the desk clerk a little better and maybe give him a little palm grease to watch our backs. When we bring guests in the hotel we instruct the desk clerk to call us to see if everything is all right and do not let her leave until we say so. Just an ideal.

Also when I use to monger in Costa Rica and stay at the Presidente you would have to register the girl. She would have to show her passport to the desk clerk and sign in. That was the time I always looked at the register or her passport for her name. 9 out of 10 times the name she gave me at the bar was not her real name. I think alot of girls use aliases for obvious reasons.

By Fooledagain1 on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 - 04:33 am:  Edit

Sweet-- Security better at Princess ? Not when i stayed there, they never called the room when girl left, never. That was the only thing i didn`t like at the hotel. Did they call when you stayed ?

By Sweetmesquite on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 - 09:40 am:  Edit

no but girls left late in morning.

What hotels are currently guess friendly? I keep hearing contradictions from different people. I will be traveling to Rio shortly. I plan on booking the services of a Guide from the suggestion of the Board. However no one on the board can tell me what Hotels are currently Guess friendly. Isn't that one of the main purposes of the Board.

By Cortogringo on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 - 04:48 pm:  Edit

Sometimes shit in Rio isn't that cut and dry. People on this board are trying to figure out this latest turn of events and others are making suggestions for hotels that are guest friendly.

Rio Roiss is guest-friendly (according to local Kenn); they charge 50 reais/night for guests. Princess Copacabana is guest-friendly; they also charge 50/night. Atlantico Copacabana hotel is guest-friendly (don't know about charges), it's further from the beach but a minute from Termas L'uomo. My usual spot is the Arpoador Inn. Guest-friendly (no charge) but further from the action.

By Prophetm on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 - 06:30 pm:  Edit

Thanks!

When I get to Rio I will investigate and let everyone know what Hotels still are guest friendly.

Does anyone have information on the following hotels ? Guest friendly and cost, quality of rooms, location, prices, etc.

Ipanema Inn

Aproadar Inn

Marina Palace

Luxor Regente

It seems many of the hotels are now charging $20.US per guest and not per day. This can get quite expensive. I believe the Princess Copacabana and Orla are allowing guests with this type of up charge ?? I thought if you registered and payed as a double, that you would not have to pay extra for every guest ??

Any info on guest policy at Rio Internacional?

By Sabio on Friday, February 06, 2004 - 01:08 am:  Edit

Rio Internacional (between Copacabana Palace and the Meredien, right?) allowed guests for a significant fee as of a few years ago. I don't know if their policy has changed since.

By Genghis_khan on Tuesday, April 20, 2004 - 12:56 am:  Edit

Rio Internacional allow one girl up to the room
for R$40,-. She has to leave by 12 the next
morning. They will call your room and make
sure she leaves. This was their policy back in
august last year.

The Sheraton Rio allows girls for a minimal few and the Sheraton Barra allows girls for free, they just have to sign in at the desk, the staff is great there altough a bit far from the action, its an easy 50reals plus cab ride each way to say back and forth to help, and then giving the girl taxi money in the morning,if anyone does stay there try the Barra gril for dinner EXCELLENT and its close to the Sheraton barra and the place will give you a free ride to wherever you want

By Hemp on Sunday, June 06, 2004 - 05:14 am:  Edit

Thanks Riocopa for info on the Sheraton Barra. I arrive there on Tuesday for a 6 month stay. If you have anymore info on the Sheraton Barra I would appreciate it. Any Terma's close to it? Is the area safe? - Thanks Hemp email: bhempen@doughertyequipment.com

Can anyone suggest a NICE hotel that is girl friendly, doesn't care how many you bring in at one time, and doesn't charge a guest fee.

If I have to pay more per night than so be it, I just don't want to deal with the hassles and the extra charges while I am there.

Thanks for any help!

By Sabio on Thursday, June 24, 2004 - 12:10 am:  Edit

Unfortunately, I do not know of any such hotel. How about staying at VIP's motel? :-)

By Roadglide on Thursday, June 24, 2004 - 08:46 am:  Edit

Smirker; a word of caution here about having more than one girl in your room at a time.

There have been MANY posts about guys getting ripped of this way. Even some of the old hands that live in Rio, have been ripped off by having more than one garota at a time in there apartment.

If you decide to do a dupla or more at your place just make sure that ALL YOUR SHIT IS LOCKED UP!!!

Be safe bro
