Saturday - Centaurus / MC / Solarium / Luomo are all open.
Sunday - MC / Solarium / Luomo are open.
Can't comment on Barbarella or Help.

Help's best night is Saturday! You have part timers from all over town who just work the circuit to supplement their income as opposed to it being their sole income. Sitting at Terraco is like sitting on the side of a runway (not an airport runway) they are all done up to the 9's!
Sunday is not bad at all either but action starts a little later at TA.
Barbarella I generally avoid as i dont like the whole bar fine system, all the side scams going on and the fact that I can drag the same garotas out of help for half the price!
I was looking at a real estate listing for a big ass house in the southern part of Brazil and one of the features listed in the ad specifically noted that Brazil didn't have an extradition treaty. I guess it was a marketing ploy?
"---I thought Brazil had a non-extradition treaty to North American countries? ---
Very big misconception.. You can thank hollywood for that. The Federal Police and the FBI work together a lot. Most recently with that mobster that was picked up in Copa a few months ago.
Costa Rica is a completly different story though..."

Anybody got info. on how to get into gpbr.com?
Great review site, but I can't seem to register...

You can start by getting the website right...gpbr.com is the Grosse Pointe Michigan Board of Realtors.

Inside brasil, you cannot book flight on gol web site www.voegol.com.br, you can from abroad using amex.
So you need to use a travel agency if you are in brasil, in rio I use Blameitonrio at no extra charge, pay amex or cash.
I'm leaving for Rio, May 31, 2005. Going to be there till June 7th. This is my 1st Trip !
A friend of mine is joining me, just to Piss-off his Wife. This trip is the 1st for both of us.
We need some advice on where to go ? What is this place Club Help ?
We'll be getting into Rio ; June 1st at about 8:00 am from JFK/New York. Will be staying at the Martinique Copa Hotel. I'll be checking this web site often. If anyone Can Help us out with were to go for the Ladies or you'd like to Hookup with us, for a Night of Carousing, let me know.
Thanks,
J.Genna
First trip then Help, Monte Carlo, L'Uomo and Solarium your best bets. If you can find some more experienced folks you can also hit 4x4 with them.
Now go to the topics section, or look at past trip reports to find out more about these places. Everything you want to know is already here in excruciating detail.
Check my Rio Guide posted here. It's intended for guys relatively new to the scene and should answer most of your questions.
Definetly read Bwana's Guide. It is the most comprehensive on Rio I have found to date
Also, read Brazilian_Specialist guide on safety as it is invaluable for a newbie!

Knockkneedman,
Just curious, why do you advise against newbies going to 4x4 without experienced folks?
My experience was that 4x4 was pretty overwhelming the first time I went (I was solo, however). It's pretty big and I think not that easy to navigate. What really got me was that it was crowded and really loud. I think it would be more fun with someone that had been there a few times.
4X4 can be a bit intimidating if you roll in after 6:00 and the place is packed with Brasilian guys. If you show up at 3:00, though, it's a whole different story. You don't get the full party atmosphere if you come early, but it's easier to hook up with a garota, find a place to sit, and so forth.
I went to 4x4 by myself the first time at 8PM on a Thursday night. I had only been to one other Termas one time, Solarium. Went by bus, found the street, found the club by asking around since 4x4 is not on the lit sign, went inside, and my jaw hit the floor. The place was packed. Totally different scene than Solarium. I enjoyed the raucous atmosphere much more and figured about everything out, although I did not know about the upstairs bar until about the 5th trip. I was especially pleased with the lower prices with more girls. It would have been easier to go with somebody but I have always been a "getting there is half the fun" type.
I'm with you, Travelsrr. When I wandered into 4X4, alone, for the first time, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. It was chaotic, but for me that was a big part of the allure.
BTW, hope you're feeling better. It was good seeing you in Rio last week. Hope we can do it again some time.
You know I am not feeling better damnit, this "gripe" sucks. The only good thing about it is I am saving some money on entertainment. I finally went to the pharmacy today and bought everything they recommended from Vicks to some pills so hopefully it will go away soon. I think it is something going around, I hear a lot of people coughing with that chest congestion sound that I have.
Definitely 4x4 is the terma where I've consistently found both quantity and quality(especially with the playboy model there) at a reasonable price. I prefer this place over places like Centaurus and Solarium. Centaurus is great but gets pricey especially if you go there multiple times. Solarium was small, didn't have that great a selection, and the cabines are tiny in comparison with no place for a shower.
Travelsrr, it was great meeting up with you in Rio and hope you feel better. The chicken soup Bwana likes at Alcazar will help with your congestion.
Bwana, so I finally met the person who got me hooked on the Rio monger scene. Thanks man. The recurrent nightmares I have of being monogamous are finally gone!! BTW in your past experience, how often do garotas check their email?
Jaspersmack,
Some guys thank me, others curse me. Good seeing you in Rio. Goddamn I had a good time at 4X4!
Just returned from Sauna Karandache in POA and had an amazing time there as well. Is this an awesome country or what!!!
Just gotta say that you are one hell of a lucky dude with work bringing you to Brazil! That's it, if I roll the lucky dice in my next life, I want a job like Bwana's. But with the sins of the flesh I'm comitting now, in my next life I'll probably be a toilet seat or a barf bag or something like that.
Did round of Terma (not like me)with some buddies this past week;
4X4-Talent way down on a Friday, which is usually the worst day of the week to go there.
65-Talent better that 4X4 but still way off from normal. again, it was a Friday afternoon.
Solarium-Sunday afternoon with a group of about 10 guys. Fellas, this place was off the charts in terms of stunners and electricity was in the air. (ON A SUNDAY). Several ex 65 girls working there (Laredo, your sweetie is there now and looking great. She said to tell you hello and she can't wait for you to return...and your ATM card...he he)
Even did a Sat night at Help. Lots of new faces and an incredible percentage of real life down to earth spinners (layne??) (ask Evil Twin. he and I stood together for a while and just marveled at them). I had been dancing earlier and one of these new cuties dragged me out on the dance floor and wouldn't let me leave after just one dance. With spring coming just around the corner, more tourists showing up and many Brasilians vacationing in August, me thinks there will be a new crop of cuties arriving to seek their fame and fortune.

Sandman, the way you like to dance, I bet she didn't have to tug to hard to get you on that dance floor.
Walking the streets of Rio; Just an observation!
•Walking, on crowded sidewalks in Rio, is a daily game of chicken!
He who moves first looses.
I swear, they will walk right into you, cut in front of you, pass you and cross in front of you, stop without any warning, veer in your path, bump, brush or plow into your shoulders, do an about face, step on your feet, throw an arm into the air into your body, touch or grab you, edge you into a pole or building, stare or point at you, spit without looking, jaywalk, jump between traffic, shoot you a bird, try to hand you an advertisement, fart out loud, try to hit you with their umbrellas when it is raining, shove, push, brush aside or hold a hand up when you are too close. Ex: (and I swear this happened) I was standing on a street corner waiting for a friend. I was not moving a muscle! A girl was walking towards me. I noticed her because she was rather pretty. She kept coming, looking directly in my face. She walked right into me and stepped back with a look of rage on her face. I looked bewildered saying I was just standing there not even moving and she walked into me. She looked like she was expecting an apology. I shrugged my shoulders and she walked around me in a huff. I stood there, shaking my head in disbelief, chuckling to myself at the absurdity of the whole situation.
Brush up on your NYC street walking etiquite before you arrive and get ready for walking derby 101.
On the other hand, it is not always a negative to walk on a crowded street. I've had more than one well targeted elbow find its mark.....
No no no, in NYC and most Northeast cities, we are very strict. Walk on the right, certain places to cross if you need to hit a subway station or enter a buildin, place your order quickly at the counter of the deli and then move to the side to wait for your order, fill in the gaps in traffic, so on and so forth.
I have never seen a Brasilero/a ever walk in a straight line. Meandering is a perfect word for them. Gotta love the choke points, I think the city was designed with muggers in mind. You have a 10-meter wide sidewalk, totally devoid of anything, then you narrow down as you approach a corner, stick the building practically on the edge of the street, then install a tree or magazine kiosk right at the choke point. Gotta love it!!
I'm surprised some old Brasilera didn't run a shopping cart over your foot while you were standing there. Or, when you are in the supermarket, and they are pointing to an item on the shelf (so that their maid can pick up the right item, they may go to the grocery but they are too high-class to actually pick items off of the shelf) and you walk by and they look at you like you're a moron for not ackowledging their greatness.........
I guess Rudy changed all that.
Suffice to say, there is absolutely zero consideration or order in the way people walk the sidewalks in Rio. It is chaos at its finest!
I will give them some credit, in Brasil they can board a completely full 737, with over 120 passengers, in about 12 minutes. In the US it takes double that.
I thought it was funny, on my first domestic Brasil flight the boarding pass said to board 40 minutes prior to departure, but they didn't board until about 15 minutes before. I asked the really cute gate agent garota about it and she said that if they told people when they really were going to start boarding, everyone would show up late! Gotta love Brasil for that.
Newbies, remember, in Brasil, 9:00 lasts all the way until 10:00. The same goes for the other hours as well
I get mixed signals in rio regarding etiquette. For me, they walk too slow and bump into you without an excuse me. At other times, for instance, I'll see someone toss a cigarette onto the sidewalk and give them a dirty look as if they committed some major social no-no and they'll sheepishly pick up the cigarette and toss it into the trash can. Same goes for waiter service, sometimes it's embarassingly obsequious and at other times they treat you as if you didn't exist. It's difficult to anticapte their behavior.
For the less funk n' wagnall inclined:
obsequious: marked by or exhibiting a fawning attentiveness
Fellow mongers, I am considering visiting Rio from 9/05/05 on Labor Day to 9/12/05, I want to go since I have not been to to Rio for awhile but I am concerned since this week is Labor Day week, will the termas be overrun with other Americans? If the termas are going to be real crowded, I would prefer not to go.
Thanks.
Msorayas, just "cum" down! I doubt it would be overrun with us gringos. There may be some Italians too?
There are plenty of garotas to go around and shag!
Just Do It:-) After your trip, you'll be thanking me for encouraging you. sf4dfish

Just got home from Rio (23 hours), and I am ready to hop on a plane and go back. I will do a short trip report in a couple of days after I rest up a bit and collect my thoughts. Rio, what a place.
ps is there a better place to post general messages like this?

Probably more appropriate for South America chat, which can be found by clicking on Homebase on the upper left-hand side of the screen.

Msorayas. (A Dollar Stretcher post)
I bought a box of four 20 Mg Cialis for Reais 89. at a pharmacy in Copacabana named Descontao just a week ago. At the current exchange rate that should be about US$ 9.80 for each 20 Mg pill. Same box going for Reais 116 in Sao Paulo or about US$12.75 per pill that is about 30% in excess as almost everything else in Sao Paulo when compared with Rio prices.

Hi all, I need to know a couple of questions. I am from Mn. (central time) so what is the time difference in Brazil. Also, I run a consulting business where I would love to have my U.S. phone calls, call forwarded to a cell phone in brazil. Is that possible or is it a pipe dream? I don't want my clients to know that I am sitting on the beach taking shipping orders from them. Any suggestions?
You can always get a global roaming cell plan from your US carrier, but I find them to be very expensive. However, if your company is picking up the tab, go for it. You can always rent a mobile in Brasil and have your calls forwarded but again, it can be expensive.
A VOIP service is best, certainly the cheapest way. If your trips are sporadic, try SkypeIn. You can get voicemail as well, and you can work anywhere that has decent broadband. Make sure you get a hotel or apart/hotel that has broadband in room - the Parthenon Arpoador is excellent for work purposes. Very good broadband, good rates, good location, very nice mini-apartments. With SkypeIn, you pick a US number in whatever area code you want, and have your US calls forwarded to there. If you're online you can pickup or it can go to voicemail. Calls to any US or Canadian number from Skype is free through the end of the year. Awesome deal.
Right now, Brasil is two hours ahead of CST.
By Cpa on Monday, June 05, 2006 - 02:59 pm: Edit |
A VOIP service is through the internet then, right? And broadband would be like not going to far away from your room, or you lose connection right? Do you use your cell phone or head phones or what kind of voip phone? Sorry for all the dumb questions, and thanks cat for answering my last questions.
My Sprint phone roams in Brazil without any additional setup.
CPA,
With Skype, effectively, your computer is your phone. You just need to buy a headset and download Skype, then create a username, then set up SkypeOut and SkypeIn.
Other systems use either PCs or actual phone handsets, but it sounds like for your purposes Skype would do the trick.
Mello, how much per minute are you paying to receive calls, and how much per minute to make calls?
By Macmac on Monday, June 05, 2006 - 04:22 pm: Edit |
Actually what you want it a vonage VOIP. They provide a much robust business capability for either $24.95 or 39.95 a month. You can set your number to ring to not only your vonage # but up to 5 others either in sequence or at the same time. So you can have it ring to your VOIP # then to your brazillian phone then to your US cell (obviously needs to be a global phone). You can manage this from any internet connection world wide. Other options way save you a few bucks but vonage is still the world leader for Business VOIP for a reason. You can also get a seperate virtual # thats actually brazillian and forward your US calls to it then reforward via the in country # so your forwarded calls are free on your brazilian cell since they are local incoming calls....
Cat,
It think it was $1.50/min.
I use Skype for all my phone needs when travelling. SKypein/Skypeout

Has anyone mentioned that Meia Petaca has been shut down, I walked by the other day and the terrace was gone and windows closed.
I do not know where all the low end are hanging out but Help was very quiet this week, actually I kinda liked it, instead of 90% mulattas, it was 60-40. I even saw a gorgeous girl from Joinville but passed as she has been in Rio for 3 years. Anyone did a Katherin at Help, light green eyes, maybe bit old 22/23, hot as in hot, easily a 7.5 to an 8 in looks.
Meia Petaca? shut down? What a loss for "some" folks.........we can only hope!

I haven't set foot inside the shrubs at MP in over 3 years, and rarely even walk past the place anymore. It was bad 3 years ago and got progressively even worse.
What the fuck are they renovating?
By Thumper on Thursday, September 07, 2006 - 09:33 pm: Edit |
Why would you guys want the place closed forever? Just curious. Does it affect your vacation somehow? (For example: You rent an apartment over the location and the noise of people talking, wakes you up in the morning.)
MP is disliked by many since it's been long associated with favela rats and/or scamming garotas. That being said, MP closing doesn't mean those garotas are off the program, they'll just gravitate to somewhere else. I think Balcony is just as bad from a garota standpoint, maybe worse because it's much bigger, but at least Balcony is in the Lido "mafia security zone" and you can roam around there fairly free of worry from muggers and pickpockets.
I expect most of the fuglies who gravitated to MP to spend most of their time at Balcony and TA now.

Non garota questions, staying Oct 12-21 in Copa:
Bars with pool tables or pool halls?
Anywhere near to see a fight? Boxing or some martial arts funkyness?
Any reccomendations on a place for real professional massages and/or manicures? Price?
Are good quality clothes really cheap compared to US in Copa/Imp area? (light pack in/ wardrobe update idea)
After reading the threads to DJ Anselmo's nice trip report, it's clear that there are some hombres that may not find Brazilian women to their liking for whatever reason. That's fine, because that leaves more Brasileras for hombres like myself who think they are beautiful and provide excellent service.
Then there are hombres that are on the fence about what it's like going to Brazil. Some of these gentlemen have not mongered in Brazil and have drawn conclusion simply relying on info and photos on CH as well as hearsay.
All I have to say is, go ahead and check out Brazil and devolop your own first hand experiences. You've got one life to live and live it with gusto and without any regrets.
Before my first visit to Rio three years ago, I frequented Thailand. One day, a buddy of mine said give Rio a shot because he had a great time there. I was not sure about it because I had a longer flight it would cost more to fly and stay there. I am so glad I went...now I'm hooked on Brazil. (However, Brazil is expensive so I try to split my time each year between Brazil and Thailand.)
Come to think of it, in my 3 years going to Rio, I've met a lot of mongers in Rio and I've never met one that said, "I'll never come back". But I've met lots of guys that have become frequent return visitors.
Continue to enjoy the life Gentlemen
Solid!
I think as a newbie and not knowing any Port, Rio may not be ideal place for some mongers like it was years ago. Let's face it, we've seen the prices go higher there than other place in the world over the last few years.
In my past 2 trips, I have actually heard 2 newbies say they would not return again. Both guys were from NYC and under 30. Neither spoke a lick of Portuguese. One was there alone there, the other was there with some friends just for a bachelor party.
Neither of these guys particularly cared for the termas scene. They found it too fake and the girls too pushy. They didn't particularly like the idea how easy it was to hand over the key either.
They both cared more for blonde-hair, blue-eyes, lighter skin girls. They loved american looking girls. They hated funk and hip-hop music.
So here is my viewpoint.
1.) I like morenas -- black hair, eyes, mulattas or very tanned. I like worked-out bodies and a girl with an ass. I like fuller lips. In general, I like how women look in brasil very much. Probably, only Colombian or Spanish girl would be better for me. Big silicon tits, a flat ass and pasty white skin just turns me off.
2.) I speak some Portuguese. I don't think handing over the key or money is all it takes. I like to be blunt, tell them what I like and what they like. I don't want to just fuck. I want the girl to suck balls, let me cum in her mouth, etc. A lot of these girls really don't have many friends. Sometimes, a girl just likes the company and will throw in sex. Kind of gray-area of non-pro/pro.
3.) Good at sex. Some garotas I become buddies with. No stupid drama, hearing about problems and trying to figure out ways to fix them. I've got 2 other women (my mom and sister) I love in my life I can talk about emotional problems. Some men say they enjoy "sex with love" more. Well, I hear these girls say "te amo" a lot so it works for me.
4.) Passionate. Let's face it our culture is working and buying things and talking about work and buying things. Our music hasn't been good for over a decade. Commercialism has destroyed creativity.
So okay, I am not a huge fan of Funk music blasting in my eardrums. The lyrics are no more intelligent than Rap, but at you can move and grind to it. They are passionate about it. They are passionate about other things too. Some of it is stupid, but at least having a passion for things other than money and that is refreshing.
It's too bad the 2 NYC guys didn't have a good time. But, they would have never known that Brazil wasn't for them if they had never gone in the first place. Like the old saying, nothing ventured nothing gained.
The big question mark is:
Would newbies enjoy the experience (services provided by Brasileras / the beauty of the Brasileras and the environment of Help or Termas or TA..etc.)? These are things one has to see first hand as oppose to just reading and hearing about it from other people.
Cincoleche, you are right about Brazil being more expensive than years gone by. However, there should not be a question to a newbie how much it costs for p4p in Brazil. That's been well documented here on CH with the help of our fellow hombres. If Brazil is out of a newbies price range, the good news is that there are other less expensive destinations.

well
idont know i think 26 reais would be in any guys price range.there are places in rio that are cheaper but i never tried any of them.so the price is right but the geografic was wrong.
Curious Iggy...is the 26 reais amount a typo? If it isn't, then where in Rio are the GDPs going for 26 reais?
Just trying to clear up any potential misinformation.
Gee solid, where you been? Vila Mimosa- 20r for the girl, 5r for the room and 1r for the camisinha. Or if you're in a real bargain hunting mood go to R. Uruguiana, 22 and take 2 for the price of 1, that price being 20r.
Wow Stayaway...as Homer Simpson would say, Doh!
I totally missed the Vila Mimosa option for our newbies.
I'll be honest, I've never visited VM and R Uruguiana, so I'm afraid I don't have any first hand insight about the quality of the GDP's there.
I'm simply a happy camper at the termas...that's just my thing. In my visits to Rio, I haven't met any other hombres say let's go on a VM run.
I'm sure there are guys that enjoy VM so, by no means am I knocking something I don't have any experience with. For the guys that enjoy frequenting VM...I'm glad you found a great deal in Rio!
Continue to enjoy the life!
Solid!

Is that place on Uruguiana near the Metro stop? If so, then for about R$40 you can have a programa, dinner at one of the food stands, a bunch of pirated DVDs, a new lighter and a subway ride home. All within a hundred yards of one another.
Now that's a fucking bargain
By Laguy on Friday, October 27, 2006 - 08:49 pm: Edit |
I'm happy to hear Rua Uruguiana, 22, is still an option. One of the better garotas I have had in my mongering career worked there for awhile. In fact, GCL also sessioned with her more than once (although perhaps at a different location) and at the time concurred in my evaluation, even if his Alzheimer's-like condition has gotten in the way of him remembering her (as of the last time I spoke to him).
By Bendejo on Saturday, October 28, 2006 - 12:43 am: Edit |
The great thing about the cheap places is you can make a casual stop. "Hey, I have a half-hour to kill, think I'll go have my knob polished."
What a country!
So what is the apartment number on this place?
Now that I think of it, it's probably R. Uruguiana, 24 so.. sidle 2 steps to your left and proceed to 5 open floors of whores. Getting off at the Carioca station is closer.
By Laguy on Saturday, October 28, 2006 - 09:50 am: Edit |
Stayaway: I checked out the update to my 2003 Rio guide and you are right. Here is what I said then:
"Uruguaiana, 24.
In my last report I recommended a garota named Vanessa at Sonhu’s at Largo de Sao Francisco, sala 317 (on the 3rd floor). On this trip I learned she is now working at Uruguaiana, 24, 2nd floor (there is also a massage parlor on the third floor of this address; in both instances, the massage parlors are the only businesses on the respective floors, as is also the case at Travessa do Ouvidor, 37, and the two locations I will refer to below on Rua Buenos Aires. Thirty minutes for $50, including anal, and while YMMV, photos throughout the session were allowed both times I saw her. Vanessa also frequents Help, so you may find that the garota you paid good money for at Help can be had for much less at a massage parlor. Note, however, there is a second girl named Vanessa at this location, although she may be the “mama-san,” I’m not sure. All I know is that when my Vanessa wanted something, she would shout “Vanessa,” and later told me there were two Vanessas, her and the other one.
Directions to Uruguaiana, 24. Very easy to get to this place: get off the metro at Carioca station, head north onto Uruguaiana, and then walk a couple of blocks. 24 is on the right side of the street, and that is all you will see on the entranceway, the number “24.” Be sure to check out both the 3rd floor here, and the second, where Vanessa currently (but who knows about next week?) works."
However, it has been more than three years. I should add, as most know, these places tend to be rather inconsistent in quality so you may do very well one day, and not find anything another.
I should also add I was either overcharged (most likely) or there was a rather large anal surcharge. But remember, this was back when the real was monopoly money so I didn't really give much of a rat's ass about it.
By Gcl on Saturday, October 28, 2006 - 06:24 pm: Edit |
Laguy.... actually I remember her but only because you are jogging my memory. I actually ran into her on the street about a year ago and as of then she was still working at Uruguaiana (although I think she had left for a while). She certainly was very pretty. SHe asked about you by the way. I MIGHT have told her you died. But dont hold me to that cause I may have only said you were terminal.
ANyway, I went inside Uruguaiana 24 about 3 weeks ago and there were still some doable girls for 20 reais, but no Vanessa....
