The hot spot for all-nighters is a nightclub on the boardwalk called HELP. This is an enormous nightclub that is totally populated by hookers. I've actually only been there once so far so I'll have more data after my next trip.

Dancing in Help goes until about 6am if that is what you are interested in.

The action at Help does not start until midnight. At midnight, the discounted rate for women to enter to club ends (about $7) so any woman that is going to pay her way in does so at that point. A number of women show up at Help and immediately preceed inside. So if you get to Help a little after 12 you will have you're best choice of women. The most women will be there and they haven't been there long enough to have paired up with some guy for the night. The top of the line women in there (and this is all based on hearsay via TSM etc.) charges about 200 Reals or about US$100 these days. But with some bargaining most of them can be had for 150 Reals to 100 Reals. My initial impression with the place was a little strange; almost like the women weren't particularly interested in picking up guys. But when I arrived it was around 3am so the women that were interested in bagging a guy were long gone. But I'll provide more info after I get back from my next trip. But this place is the one that everyone talks about, so my guess is that I just haven't spend enough time in there yet.

Now, another nice thing to do is sit outside of Help at the cafe there and meet the women on their way into Help. There is a large crowd that seems to arrive at about 10pm every night. It is nice to sit there and chat as the sea breeze blows thru. It really is a very relaxed, easy going place to be; one of my favorite places to just hang out in Rio. Prices are also lower at the cafe than once you enter Help. The normal price seems to be 100 Reals or about US$50 right now. Currently the exchange rate is fantastic - about 2 reals for US $1. If anyone has been thinking about going to Rio, now is the time.

Help Disco: I was surprised at the amount of Blacks girls working there. I thought i was in Watts or something. I asked my partner(been going ro Rio for 5 years now) and asked if last year had this many blacks (about 70%). He said every year, the percentage of pure black girls goes up. He can't figure out why. Also, I noticed that the more caucasian looking girls charge over $100 US and seem to not care about getting customers. Am I just imagining things?

I haven't really paid any attention to the racial distribution of women in Help but the more attractive women in Help seem to want R$150-R$200 (US$65-85). You do seem to be right about the attitude of the women (ie not caring about getting customers); I guess they figure that if you don't pay their price some other guy will later.

I think the reason your friend has noticed more "black girls" every year in HELP and Mia Pattaca is because of the economic situation in the north of the country. While the economy in Brasil is bad it is much worse in the north and the north has always been the poorest part of the country. The north is also has the largest population of African descendants. In the last few years many people from the north have been immigrating to Rio in search of work. Needless to say the only work the girls can find is to work as a maid for about 200 Reals a month or work as a prostitute and make 150 Reals in one night.

Odd thing about the black girls in Brazil. I don't know if it's just me but they appear to have a different shape than their North American counterparts. I once spoke to a German in a terma and he recounted to me that the Brazilian blacks are indeed different from the blacks in the states. They were taken as slaves from completely different tribes in Africa. While both Brazilian black women and American black women have their callipygous attributes, the Brazilian backside is more in line with the rest of the body while the American backside can be steadopygic. This may require some more historical research regarding exactly where the slaves were picked up by each nation. Anybody else have an opinion on this.

Also, alot of the girls who ask for 100bucks at night in Help will go for 100Reals during the day off the beach. Explain to them that you only want them for an hour or two and that you will pay 100Reals and most will accept, because that is money for their dinners at Mea Pataca and their entry fee into help, plus a couple of drinks.

I am a tourist but do not wish to show disregard to this awesome and very interesting place on earth. I like Help as this is the only place that offers some challenges but I'd say 80% of garotas seem friendly, of course I am only interested in the top 25%.

I'd say that a fair rate for the women in Help that would be finalists for the Miss America pageant is about 200 reais. If she is very attractive, but didn't make the top 10 in the pageant then give them 150 reais or less. If they don't like that then follow Thumper's advice of smiling and just moving on. If they want more then either they apparently think that you are some sucker muito grande (very big sucker) so you don't want them in your hotel/apartment later anyway or else they don't like you very much but like your dinero. These women also seem to be only women in Rio that don't like sex (I guess they are fustrated after spending all that time balancing their checking accounts or something) - at least that is my theory.

I think that you need to have a certain attitude to enjoy Help. If you show up wanting to immediately find a hottie & get laid then it can be a bit fustrating. I think that you need to go with an attitude of just hanging out, try to have a good time, and see what happens. If you just say hi to women that you find attractive, talk and dance with them for a bit then you can have a good time at Help (and get laid in the process).

Business in Help is a little different that the high volume border town action. In the border towns, it tends to be that if the guy has $50 (or so) then the girl has 30 minutes to kill with you. In Help, most girls are just going to do 1 guy (somes 2) a night so they are a bit more picky.

In the past I have noticed that treating the girls high offers with a smile has come back to help me in the future. I would never advocate laughing in her face or getting upset and arguing with her. By smiling and saying "Thankyou, but I can't afford you this evening". Lets her save face and it lets her know that you are not a sucker, it also gives her the opportunity to make another more reasonable offer later in the evening, if she can't find someone else to pay her price. Remember, if she doesn't go home with someone, she still had to pay her entrance fee, her drinks, food, taxi, plus the cost of her clothing. After a couple of nights that tab starts to add up and she will be forced to find someone so she can recoup her losses.

Another thing that I noticed has worked wonders is using the garotas natural jealous tendencies against themselves. They tend to be very competetive and if they see you leaving with another girl after you turn them down, they can get very jealous. Many times a girl has approached me and asked " Why you go with her? I more pretty than her! What she have better than me?" To which I reply. "Her price is better than yours!" I'm not sure about Barbarella's but Bendejo is correct that the only requirement at Help is no shorts. No problem with sandals either.

How about 14 years? My first trip to Rio was 1988, one year before the military dictatorship ended, and Francisco Collar was elected president.
Inflation was running at 1100 percent then and there were still a few tanks to be found on the streets. The money was called the cruzeiro, then the cruzado, then the nova cruzado. Inflation was so rampant your hotel rate went down the longer you stayed. I checked in the hotel Olinda on Ave. Atlantica at 12am that night, not speaking a word of Portuguese. Feeling lost (no internet preparation in 88) I took a walk down Ave. Atlantica and came to Help. A bunch of beautiful people dressed in white going in... I figured I was at the right place. I went in for 75 cents admission and was shocked by the sheer number of beautiful women. Mind you, I had no idea of the program of working girls in the Copa. I just thought all the great looking tourist girls of the world had descended on this one disco. I was in heaven thinking that I at last I had become a truly hot man because of all the attention I was getting. (Yes... Help Has Changed!) Help was built as a remodel of one of the few old mansions that still lined Copacabana beach in the late 70s when Disco was all the rage. Terracao Atlantica, connected to Help is that house, still protected from demolition to become yet another hi-rise. Disco remained popular in Brazil long after it had died in the US.

There were three big clubs in Copacabana, one in the Rio Palace, Crocodillos in Orthon Palace, and Help. All discos tried to discourage prostitutes by having doormen refuse entrance. But, once inside there were plenty of pros who managed to get past the doorman. A girl would offer all kinds of delights to get a guy to escort her in, then dump him to search for a big score.

Everything changed overnight during the time of first Rock in Rio concert in 1986. Gloria Maria was a young news commentator covering the concert for Globo, the dominant TV network in Brazil (she now hosts Fantastico on Sunday nights). In a widely incident she was refused admission to Help. She claims that a racial slur was made, but I think she was just mistakenly identified to be just another working girl trying to sneak in. I think that attitude that you guys are talking about is so important. If you spend sometime & talk to the girls in Help (this could be a problem due to that language issue) then you can find some friendly women and have lots of fun. If you say hi, immediately followed by my hotel is over there, then you can find some real hard mercenary types. To elaborate on Wilco's point regarding the termas, the best way that I have found to get into the "proper" attitude for Help is to go to a termas immediately prior going to Help, tire yourself out there so you're actually not interested in sex, and that will force you to spend time talking to the women prior to heading out.

Help is the equivalent to AB and CC in TJ. You gotta work a little bit to find right mate while in termas, 90% offer tlc. It just adds spice to hobby as sometimes you may not want a sure thing. Also I noticed not all garotas at Help were interested in my business so chemistry is important.
To get 10's, pick the best looking garotas at termas, best looking garotas at agencies and head to Barbarella if everything else fails.
I'd say maybe 1/2 thre garotas at Help show up early at the cafe while the other half just go directly inside before midnight strikes.

The biggest problem with Help is too much eye candy. You get to a point in Rio where you are turning down women you would die for in the States because you would rather talk to your buddy at the bar.

As strange as that sounds, imagine that you've already been with a 8.5 from Help during the morning after and a 9 from Centaurus that afternoon. You arrive at Help at 11:30pm and a 8.5 walks up to you and asks you to take her home. In fact, there are so many hot ones, sometimes you wait too long. It's fine to play Burt Parks and choose your finalists for Miss Rio that night, but if you wait too long, they could all be taken.

Best move is to keep evaluating the finalists if they are indistinguishable. However, if you see one that is far and away the finest of the lot, go for it. Otherwise, she will be gone.

The one caveat, however, is the timing. I, for one, need some reloading time. So, if I was looking for two shots on goal, I would wait until after 2:30am.
