If you leave the square where the metro is, cross Rua Carioca, follow the main street, I believe Uruguaiana, for a couple of blocks (past the McDonald’s on the left) and then make a right, you will run into Travessa do Ouvidor, not to be confused with Rua do Ouvidor. Make a left on Travessa do Ouvidor and you will run into 37 on the left-hand side.

Go up to the second floor and you will see what is either a massage parlor or real low-end terma. You’ll find the same on the third floor, and probably higher floors as well. Although I did not do a session here, it was fun to see the line-up. I also think there was a bar in at least one of the establishments. I suspect that one of the reasons I did not do a session (besides that the talent was questionable, although not terrible) is that Travessa do Ouvidor, 37, is located within a few blocks of Quatro y Quatro, one of my favorite termas, and therefore my choice was between doing a session at 37, or proceeding to Quatro. But next time I am in Rio, I will check out Travessa do Ouvidor again; from all appearances it looks like it will still be there.

In my earlier report I commented on a “terma” (really a couple of floors of massage parlors) at Travessa do Ouvidor, 37. My directions were not great, since Travessa Ouvidor is a short lane that only intersects with two streets. I now recommend the following route. Get off the Metro at the Carioca station. At the Carioca station take the Rio Branco exit and then head northon Rio Branco to Rua Ouvidor, where you should make a right. In about a block you will be at the intersection of Rua Ouvidor and Travessa do Ouvidor. Take a right onto Travessa do Ouvidor and in about a quarter of a block, 37 will be on your right. Go in the unmarked entrance (unmarked except for the street number), go up the stairs to the second and/or third floors, and you will see the line-ups. Not great but when I went there this time there were a couple of lookers, and the sessions I had there were not bad (but far from luxurious). But what do you expect for around $7 to $10?

Travessa do Ouvidor is a narrow pedestrian way just east of Rio Branco betw Rua do Ouvidor & 7 de Setembro.
